I don't have any of these but planning to buy one to serve as my DC, N64 and Saturn device. I already own RG35XX which serves as my NES, SNES, Genesis and PSX device. I am also planning to buy Switch for Switch games. The final device that I am planninv to buy is either ASUS ROG or the Ayaneo 2 because it can play Gamecube, PS2, PS3, XBOX and XBOX 360. So far, I am 1/4 in my bucket list.
Nice improvement on the screen! The artifacts you're seeing with the stock OS are called "ringing", and they're common to bad sharpening algorithms (like unsharp mask): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringing_artifacts
I've been watching for a while thinking of a device to finally get for myself and man this one might be doing it for me. The small size, the 4:3 screen, and the improved performance with the new OS...... man this might be it
I'm struggling too! I'm really feeling this device, I just wish they had the stacked shoulder buttons. But you can't beat that price, power, availability and affordability.
I went with this device because it had superior battery life compared to other models, touch screen, and had a pretty diverse emulation range. This was the only one I saw the specifically listed NGC, a big plus in my book. Edit: add on the usbc and wifi capabilities. Makes it a breeze installing new roms I imagine. Mines coming a couple days!
@tylerhanson I ended up getting one and installed gammaOS. I am HIGHLY satisfied with this and have no regrets. And you're right, the touch screen feature is nice and battery life is amazing. GammaOS is great too. Ps2 and gamwcube games run well, but I mainly got it for dreamcast emulation. You'll love it!
@remifernandez6390 that is my only complaint about it. Dreamcast games are amazing, and I screen cast it to my TV and It all runs great, but the triggers are cumbersome. I have long fingers so when I press them overtime my fingers tend to cramp. Also, they are way too clicky and sometimes it feels like I'm going to break them. Stacked shoulder buttons would be better. Even though I'm downplaying the trigger ergonomics, I'm still happy with the device, although, I do wonder if the retroid pocket 3 plus would've been a better option with the stacked triggers. But being so pocketable is a trade off.
I've been trying (and failing) to install gammaOS since i found out about it, and thanks to your step by step guide, i got it in 1! I'm so happy. Thanks Russ!
I find that the 405M screen is best for retro games. It isn't just that the aspect ratio matches. That 640x480 resolution is a nice perfect integer scale for many systems meaning you don't get uneven pixels or filter blurring that you get when scaling to an odd resolution like is on the RP3+. Yes shaders help but you get a bit of blurring on the edges. PS1 and N64 is an exact 2X of OG 320x240 to 640x480 so at 2X rendering the pixels match exactly. DC, GC, PS2 were all 640x480 consoles so you get a perfect 1:1 pixel mapping. That means no blur and sharper pixels. Other 2D systems that were 320x240 or very close (NeoGeo, Genesis etc) integer scale perfectly with no borders or a very slight border if slightly less than 320x240 (like Genesis). The RG405M also has the biggest 4:3 screen currently available. This gamma OS looks good but the thought of losing all of my settings for all of my emulators and having to re-install and set up all of my standalone emulators gives me pause, it is a lot of time to re-do it all. There are a lot of these stand alone emulators that just run better than Retroarch which is very optimized so I want to keep those.
In PAL regions, the Dreamcast and GameCube run at 720 x 480P(or up to 720 x 576 on GameCube) so really 16:10 is more ideal for those of us who are using PAL ROMs or ripping our own collections to play OTG. Shame everyone is either 16:9 or 4:3, especially since 16:10 scales to things like the GameBoy Advances 3:2 better than either 4:3 or 16:9, and just looks nicer in general.
@@YourPalHDee 2X each axis 2X V, 2X H. Yes in total that is 4X the pixels. The point being it is an even multiple so no fractional scaling that causes artifacts.
For everyone with error 9009 during the flashing process - copy all the data from the "ADB and Fastboot++" folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)) into the GammaOS folder (usually in your download direction) - after that everything works fine. 🙂
This would only be an issue if you forgot to tick the checkbox to add a PATH for fastboot in the installation routine. But yeah, IF you forgot that, placing the file next to the batch file that is looking for it is a good fix. :)
Excuse me can you help me? (I am a RetroHeld noob) I installed Gamma OS successful. I added the games from my MicroSD on the RG405M ...and they work as before (with the standard OS) Then I saw that (unlike in the preinstalled OS) the emulators for N64, PS2, Dreamcast/Wii , Gamecube are missing. RetroGameCorps didn´t mention this in the video. So I downloaded the (free) emulators over the Playstore that where missing. Like Dolphine for exemple. Dolphine and DolphineMMJ(?) was on the Stock RG405M and it runs the games from the card and the ones I had installed later. But now ( on Gamma OS) NO of the from Playstore installed emulators run any of the games?! (N64, PS2, Dreamcast/Wii , Gamecube) Can you tell me why? Did I forget something? Thank you very much
After two restarts and loading the games directly over Apps - Emulators - Dolphine...PPSSPP and so on. They start the games. But PS2 Emulator says no bios found...? And N64 didn´t find the MicroSD card like the others... Beside this problem they have no controls for the games... buttons don´t work. (The PSP Emulator works with controls, but not the Wii/Dreamcast and so on...strange) Ok I will check videos for them.
The community has made 3D printable stacked shoulders for the RG405M. Unfortunately the designer wont let resellers like Sakura mods mass produce them for sell, so you need to have them commissioned or print them yourself. Would you please acquire a set and review them?
I mean... giving the rights to resell them for a premium with 0% revenue, im on his side, like come on, sakura mods are good, but those practices are a bit sketchy.
So because he was the first guy to sketch it out, the design should be forbidden to resellers and therefore the bulk of the community, forever? I mean he shared the file for free so you can pay someone else to print them for you and he still get 0% revenue but thats cool for some reason? Hes just passing the buck and making it harder on people. We would get a better end product too if someone mass produced them. They could make a mould and do an injection instead of a 3d print which is janky af. Its selfish.
@@KrazzyKlown Injected molded parts are extremely expensive to have the molds made for (many thousands of dollars) so they would never recover their losses. That is why they only 3D print them. Home 3D printers are kind of janky but if you send to a service like Shapeways they make them higher quality with SLS printers.
I have followed these exact instructions. I am happy to say that everything went through flawlessly and no issues had occurred. Thank you for the tutorials and wonderful content!
I own an Ally but decided to get this for emulation up to PS2. I know it doesn’t run all PS2 games but I’m hoping Shadow Hearts 2 will run well. Plus I love the native PS2 resolution and aspect ratio. Got it today and the build quality is so nice. The all-metal chassis literally makes it feel more premium than the Ally and Deck lol Update: Shadow Hearts 2 runs perfectly! I use Vulkan and the only other setting I changed is to enable the diagonal TV filter
just finished shadow hearts 2 on the ally started with the steam deck. finished shadow hearts 1 on my android phone and having the bigger screen man I cant go back. this is a cute little handheld though. baggy pant pocketable for convenience.
Its interesting that some creator can capture their audience attention and we don't even need to own any of these devices. I just watch his videos to hear him talk and hang out. Lol i own the miyoo + and satisfied. But the more videos Russ shells out with other devices makes me want to buy them. Hopefully he gets these products for free or sponsorship. 👍🏽 keep doing your thing hommie!
Bought my RG 405M two weeks ago. Still waiting for it in the mail. Looks like I purchased at the right time. Can't wait. Thanks for the in-depth video Russ. Going to make my upgrade path so much easier.
@@xhenriquefps I honestly love the 405m. I bought some grips for mine at the same time, but I actually prefer playing it without them. Unfortunately mine did end up with a faulty right shoulder button. I contacted Anbernic about this but because I bought mine from Ebay, they didn't even respond to my email, (despite offering to pay for the repair). I am very disappointed about that. The faulty shoulder button issue is very common. The newer 405m devices have an revised shoulder button design and are apparently more reliable. Take that for what it is. I love this damn thing but have had a horrible experience with rectifying an issue. I could play games on it that don't use the shoulder buttons but my enthusiasm has been bent out of shape sue to my experience and for that reason I haven't used it for a while now. If you get a good unit, it really is a pleasurable device though. My advice if you buy one to get a new unit. Pay special attention to the shoulder buttons. The earlier units (like mine, eg the ones likely to become faulty) have the L1 and R1 buttons next to, but also wrap behind the L2 and R2 buttons. The newer units are more reliable. They are distinguishable because the R/L1 buttons do not wrap around, they are ONLY next to the R/L2.
"Now you're a developer, you didn't have to go to school or anything!" I love your humor in these Russ! This is amazingly good news for me, I enjoyed the little "RPG" you did in your 405M review, and I ended up with 4HP so I bought the thing, but I haven't had a chance to set it up yet. Seems like I accidentally did myself a favor by waiting!
Yes you are lucky. I had my 405 for awhile and it took me DAYS to set everything up. If I install Gamma I would need to do that all over again, no fun.
The "where.exe fastboot.exe" part from the Github instructions is SUPER important. My flashing bat stayed at the first step ("fastboot flash vbmeta_a flash/vbmeta_custom.img") like forever and I was unsure whether that's normal or not since you fast forwarded your video (for obvious reasons) but in fact I killed the process with CTRL+C and did the where.exe stuff only to find out I had an old fastboot.exe lying around at C:\adb\ which I renamed. Now it's flashing. Apart from that, thank you very much for the guide, mate.
Great video, Russ. Hopefully the Powkiddy X28 gets some CFW support as well. Powkiddy has already solved the L2/R2 issues with a software update last month.
It is a huge benefit for everyone that GammaOS reached a mature point in the recent days, and now it is the only way to put RG405M on the same performance level of the last RP3+ firmware. Russ, I have a question for you: even if it's probably too early for having a clear idea, do you think the upcoming GarlicOS on RG405M announced by Black Seraph would be able to push this chipset even beyond GammaOS performance, or will it be just a more user friendly system? What should we expect? :)
My understanding is that GarlicOS will initially only focus on RetroArch cores, so upper range performance will be limited to those systems that are supported. It’s more about transforming the device into a more “console like” experience than trying to push performance.
@@RetroGameCorps Thank you! Of course I am expecting a video in the future, maybe with a comparison between GarlicOS and GammaOS when the first will be finally available ;)
@@RetroGameCorps Isn't GarlicOS based on a Lite Linux Distro OS ? So you not only compromise on the midrange systems (Wii, GameCube, 3DS, PS2) but you also lose access to thousands of Android Games, and the convenience of certain Android Apps. But it might be worth the trade-off for a more seamless gaming experience for the lower-end systems, and using that 4:3 screen to its fullest. Only problem is the D-Pad being compromised. I think there's just a bit too many compromises. Either get the Anbernic RG305m for the better experience for retro, or step up to the full Retroid Pocket 3+. But that's just my thoughts, what do you think?
@@ekinteko the new GarlicOS will be run off an SD card, so you can have both the Android and Garlic experience depending on your mood. So really it’s a nice complement, as opposed to having to sacrifice one over the other.
@@RetroGameCorps Oh that makes it much better. Hopefully you can share the internal storage. So you can store your ROMs and Saves in a single directory, then access them either through LinuxOS or AndroidOS. Although, coming from someone who used to dualboot PCs (Hackintosh, Windows, Linux): I think I (and most people) ended up using one system almost exclusively, so it becomes a moot point.
I can't even download the first file. I'm getting a message from the website saying too many users have viewed or download this file recently, please try again later.
If you don’t mind the size difference, I think the RP3+ is still a better all round device. I own both, and if I had to pick one, it would be the RP3+. Because of the higher resolution it is better with playing android games, streaming, etc. With the GammaOS on RG405M, it does look a lot better than it did…but it’s still a 480p screen. And unless you only want to do retro gaming on it, that wouldn’t be a big deal. I also live the hot key combo to change to Xbox controller layout via GammaOS. I also have a Steam Deck and ROG Ally, so I don’t need to stream, etc on an another device.
@@MithosDagon Well since most retro systems were 320x240 (or close to it) or an actual 640x480 like Dreamcast that resolution is actually a benefit because it is an even match. For Android though yes more res is better.
I firmly believe there is someone in each company's team that is tasked to ever so slightly sabotage their products so there is room for a new device to sell :D tin foil hat off now :D
On the stock os I had 3do working flawlessly Since upgrading to gamma OS now it is no longer working and I can't get it to work. I also can no longer connect to my computer to transfer files
Definitely doing this when I get home from work today. I used your original 405M setup guide and gamma OS looks like it's worth it for the Xbox functionality alone. Thanks for your invaluable service to this community!
Thank you for your videos, great stuff! I keep getting a "no compatible devices found" with the Spreadtrum / Unisoc Bootloader Unlock Tool. Can't find a solution.
I did the upgrade and I really like it a lot, but I’ve found so far that it only wants to use retro arch for everything. I found this out after I reinstalled some other paid emulators like redream and saba sanshiro 2. I guess my gripe is it want my sweet sega systems to work but I’m ok with having to just play through the actual emulation app for now. I understand this is a new platform. Great guide. I recently got the 405m and I’m returning to the emulation community for prob after 15 years. I love handheld gaming and this certain system is great for this use case. I love your vids. Thanks again.
If you tap on the pencil icon in Daijisho when showing Dreamcast, Saturn, etc, you can change which emulator will launch, so you can still play those games with the standalone options. Here is my setup guide for Daijisho, which will walk you through that process: ruclips.net/video/l-AhfEGuMao/видео.html
@@RetroGameCorps I understand, what I’m saying is for example, launching Saturn from daijiishu doesn’t work anymore with it pointed to the app, so I have to go into my apps and launch saba, also launching Dreamcast just pops us redream and then I have to navigate the game itself. I’m not sure if I’m the only one having these issues but I’ll will keep messing with it. Overall great experience.
Is there anyway to do this with a Mac (m1)? I have been trying to do this process through Windows-Parallels, but it does not connect to the device on the Unison Bootloader Unlock Tool. Not sure if I am failing to configure something in Parallels or it just cannot be done. Anyway, great tutorial!
This OS has made me glad that I chose to keep my RG505 vs my RP3 (non-plus). I honestly thought the blooming was due to it being OLED, but the screen looks sooooo much better now, it's insane. Sure, not as high res as the RP3, but the pop and color clarity of the Vita OLED screen can't be understated. (Don't get me wrong, I liked the RP3 also, but I honestly prefer the slightly larger/chunkier feel of the RG505, and the larger screen is easier for my old eyes lol) Thanks for the guide!
Wow, this new update really blows me away with this system. I've been looking for something like this, that will let me play some retros in good quality but also comes packing psp. My only problem is, looking forward to buying on emulation console, I don't know if I should buy this one or another one I've seen for less price but similar performance, the RBG10MAX Pro. Do you think there's any change of you reviewing this second console on the channel? I've seen reviews but I feel like they fail to expose little details that are game changers, and you always get those right. Thanks and have a nice day ^^
As far is which one is better…I still think the screen gives the RP3+ an edge for me. However, I like the form factor of the RG405M…and it makes me want to use it as my primary GB and NES/SNES handheld. And GammaOS helps out with that. So I’m kinda stuck between which one would be my main for retro stuff (I’ll still use Steam Deck and ROG Ally for PS2, GC, Wii, Dreamcast).
I’m on the same boat. I imagine 405m would be better for the systems we’ll be playing with it, and the portability and form factor would make it worth it.
I've noticed a few things after installing Gamma OS, when I plug in my device in the PC it picks up as a Pixel 3a device. Also, the vibrating sensors seems to be not working anymore and it did work on the stock OS. The charging light indicator flickers when charging on and off. This only happens when the device is on while charging. On the stock OS it worked fine without blinking on and off. Has anyone noticed this? Can you email the developer and ask if they are aware of this and will it be fixed.
The guide was extremely helpful. Thank you so much for that. Regarding 'better', I think It makes it better for anyone who wants a more restricted experience on their device. Gamma makes it so similar to the Linux based handhelds, but if you decide to not use the Daijisho launcher, the experience is inferior. Screen sharpening and some other minor issues can be fixed with patches on the default OS. I reinstalled the default, and yes, default felt so much more better to me with way less restrictions. I do however want to point out that I felt restricted because I'm super familiar with android emulation and can set everything up myself. For someone who's not familiar, this might be better.
2nd day with GammaOS on my new RG405M. What can I say? Good that I chose this instead of the RP3+. Totally worth it! Best upgrade from my Miyoo Mini+. 😊 Took me a whole day to watch through your android retro gaming setup and RetroArch setup guide. Some works, some don’t. Guess your RetroArch setup needs an update. 😅 Lots of config has swapped places and some cores are better than the other (esp for PSX).
@@thatalgerian94 If you know what you are doing, it is safe. If you do not know what you are doing, it is not. If done incorrectly, you may brick your devices. If you are someone who frequently install custom ROM on your Android devices, this will surely be a piece of cake.
@@TanKianW79 iv done this type of stuff before and the instructions seem straight forward, its just that i keep going on gamma os tutorial videos and when i hit most recent comments i see a lot of people complaining about bricking their systems becuase one of the steps didnt work. I think il just pass on it for now and use daijisho frontend until something more brick proof comes out, thanks tho
Okay, I bought one. Besides gaming I will try to migrate every android function from my phone to this device, and degrade my smart phone to a simple, dumb phone. I will try to check it only 2-3 times a day and that's it, it will be in my bag. I hope this will be a good way for "digital detoxication". Not a zero tolerance method, but I have high hopes!
At first I thought the 405M screen was not very crisp. Like RGC I just put this down to the screen being low resolution and bigger in size than the 3.5 inch models. But no, it was just Anbernics screen sharpening. Combine that fix with the smooth 60 hz fix, and this GammaOS is an essential upgrade for this device.
can someone explain how streaming works? is Halo playable only if you have a PC and you are streaming? Or can games like Halo be played even if you don't have a PC? (sorry, i am a newbie)
It would be cool if you make a video showing all the games you can run on that device, also can you play mobile games like brawlstars without any problems? Nice video man!
The RG353 stock OS isn't half bad, but it's also just resting on the shoulders of community devs. That's probably the one line of devices where I don't think that updating the firmware is 100% necessary.
If the deciding factor is whether or not I can put it in my pocket, I assume the 405m is the winner here? Hall sticks, more durable shell, and smaller size seem to be the deciding factors here. I feel like past a certain size, I should just put it in my bag. If I need to use a bag, I could just bring my steam deck.
Hi! thank you for all your reviews and tutorials, its because of your videos i was able to get back in retro gaming, please don't stop doing what you do best, you have our support and love!
Is a similar video going to be made for the advantages of rg505 combined with gamma os? Great content thanks! I just purchased a rg505 so I'm definitely interested lol
I just followed your install of Gamma OS on my RG405M. It works so differently from the Anbernic stock firmware. I can play my 3DS games now without lag. Thank you.
I just did this i love my 405m and this will make it even better . One question my old retroarch had the 3 dots in the corner to acces the menu how do i get it back ?
If I’ve spent the time customizing retroarch and daijisho on stock firmware, am I going to lose all of that and more importantly my save games and states by upgrading? I’m very tempted especially for the screen fix. Thanks!
"hurr durr it worked on the first time!" Screw you guys, I got it on the 2nd try! I think I closed out of one of the screens before it finished booting. Who knows. Thanks again, Russ! Like the 8th tutorial you've walked me through
Still haven't quite found perfection in one device for me. This is in theory the ultimate 4:3 device, but has D-Pad at the bottom. The RP3+ is currently peak 16:9 yet has the analogue stick at the bottom. Switch them around and I'd be happy with either. Currently have an RP3+ (for 16:9) and Miyoo Mini Plus (for 4:3). The 405M with Gamma was perilously close to being a very good compromise to move to one device (4:3 games are my most played and a good D-Pad is my top requirement, Anbernic do these better than anyone).
I thought the D-pad placement was going to be an issue on the 405 but I really don't notice a problem with it. I didn't even need to "get used to it" it seemed natural. I would prefer it on the top mostly for aesthetics but it isn't bad how it is. When using shoulder buttons the pad on the bottom seems actually a bit better because your thumb and index finger aren't as cramped together. The 405 has the biggest 4:3 screen too at 4". I thought it would not make much difference between the usual 3.5" ones (Miyoo, RG353 etc.) but it does.
I can’t decide between installing regular Gamma OS or Gamma OS Lite. I have a question. If I buy an app like PS Play, then would I be able to download it on another device without paying again? Because I know the Google Play Store uses your login to save your purchases for installation on all your devices. This is the only thing stopping me right now from getting Lite. Any help is appreciated, thank you.
The purchase is registered to your account and can therefore be downloaded to multiple devices. While sometimes you can transfer an APK (like a backup) from one device to another that does not have the Play store, they might need the play services to confirm the purchase or in-app purchases. So, in short, if you have bought things on the store just use the firmware with the store preinstalled.
@@rizrayo8163 performance is now on par with the retroid pocket 3+, considering its using the same drivers now. Overall its more stable, plus i can play android games that support native controllers, because the developer of GammaOS made it to where the RG505 controls emulate a wireless xbox 360 controller.
Every game I try to play on my 405M lags like crazy so I really want to download this update, but do I need a Windows computer to do it? any other options?
Thanks for this video ! Did you try to play MS-DOS games with the dosbox core of RetroArch in GammaOS ? Does it work well ? Did you also try to install Magic DosBox as well to try it out ?
So i made it to the fastboot mode, but the device is now unresponsive and I can't even turn it off. The bootloader unlock tool doesn't connect. Any ideas? Thanks! Update: I can reboot it by disconnecting the battery, but I've tried 2x now and it seems to freeze when rebooting to fastboot mode. Update 2: apparently unlock webpage doesn't work from firefox, tried in chrome and its working now.
My issue with this OS is that all my PSP games went sideways to the right. Had to do a fix by Video -> Output -> rotate 90 degrees. I don't think its the shaders fault. Maybe something messed up with the PPSSPP configs out of the box. Also Gamma OS made PS2 games more playable. So its a definite improvement.
love it on my rg505. now its my go to device for emulation and even for android games if they are compatible. streaming works finally too without button issues and again shows how weak anbernic is on the software side. dont get me wrong, i love their hardware and its the most devices i have from them but seriously every stock firmware from them has major flaws, which the community needs to fix for them
I think the RP3+ still edges out the RG405M. The 16:9 screen of the RP3+ makes it a better fit for systems like PSP and GBA, but it can also be used on older systems with widescreen hacks. The higher resolution coupled with this makes it superior for most 3D systems especially given that it has video-out support. The RP3+ also has stacked shoulder buttons and a better D-pad placement for retro games. I can only see this device really shining on older, sprite-based games. At that point, it's probably more prudent to buy a cheaper device like a Miyoo Mini +. Still, some will prefer the 4:3 screen anyway, and I think this device finds a certain niche with those folks.
Yes 2D games will look better on the 405 due to the 4:3 and 640x480 resolution which is a nice integer scale of the 320x240 that many of those older systems were or close to. No uneven pixels or filtering blur. Those things ruin pixel art in my opinion.
I am not sure if anyone commented on this yet, but if you have the RG505, during the unlocking mode it tells you to click the volume up and down button to confirm.... it's not the power button you click on this device. It's the "back button" located on the right side of the unit. The top button of the two.
Hey Russ, it might be an interesting idea to re-review the RG 505 with this new update as it is ab way cheaper option for s ton of people and this might be an interesting take.
I just got mine, I restarted it and now everything crashes every few seconds. Hopefully GammaOS fixes it cause all I can do is play Play Store apps on it right now.

How it went to regular os with me
What bar is the Rg405M??
Ooooo, this is going to make both my 405 and 505 all shiny again.
The improvements are pretty noticeable. Thanks for this bud awesome video👍🏾
Thegammasqueeze did a great job on this one. Retrotechdad made a few videos about it as well
Thank you very much for this guide. 🖤
Picked this one up today and successfully installed GammaOS with no issues
The RG405V recently got support for GammaOS. Any chance you'll do an update video for it and show the set up like you did here?
640x480 is a lot more than 2x 320x240 lol. Do the math, it's 4x.
such a live saver for a lazy type of person like me who doesnt watch the full video first lul
Excuse me can you help me? (I am a RetroHeld noob)
I installed Gamma OS successful.
I added the games from my MicroSD on the RG405M ...and they work as before (with the standard OS)
Then I saw that (unlike in the preinstalled OS) the emulators for N64, PS2, Dreamcast/Wii , Gamecube are missing.
RetroGameCorps didn´t mention this in the video.
So I downloaded the (free) emulators over the Playstore that where missing.
Like Dolphine for exemple.
Dolphine and DolphineMMJ(?) was on the Stock RG405M
and it runs the games from the card and the ones I had installed later.
But now ( on Gamma OS) NO of the from Playstore installed emulators run any of the games?! (N64, PS2, Dreamcast/Wii , Gamecube)
Can you tell me why? Did I forget something?
Thank you very much
After two restarts and loading the games directly over Apps - Emulators - Dolphine...PPSSPP and so on.
They start the games.
But PS2 Emulator says no bios found...?
And N64 didn´t find the MicroSD card like the others...
Beside this problem they have no controls for the games... buttons don´t work.
(The PSP Emulator works with controls, but not the Wii/Dreamcast and so on...strange)
Ok I will check videos for them.
Too confusing
Would this Gamma OS install on an RG405V or would I have to wait for a specific version for that model?
Thank you for the tutorials and wonderful content!
nice
how do you move roms to the sd card? I mean, what is the directory supposed to look like?
I own an Ally but decided to get this for emulation up to PS2. I know it doesn’t run all PS2 games but I’m hoping Shadow Hearts 2 will run well. Plus I love the native PS2 resolution and aspect ratio. Got it today and the build quality is so nice. The all-metal chassis literally makes it feel more premium than the Ally and Deck lol
Update: Shadow Hearts 2 runs perfectly!
After installing GammaOS, do you need to find again the appropriate BIOS files for PS2 and other consoles that require Bios?
@@neilsagenes872yes you do
@@Rohit.Nayyar Are Bios files easy to find?
@@zanfear Yes, easy to find.
Wow. This now makes the rg405m a more attractive choice over the RP3+ as I mainly focus on 4:3 retro gaming.
I can’t wait to get my unit.
👍🏽 keep doing your thing hommie!
what a hassle
Bought my RG 405M two weeks ago. Still waiting for it in the mail. Looks like I purchased at the right time. Can't wait. Thanks for the in-depth video Russ. Going to make my upgrade path so much easier.
What did you think about it?
What is the best OS for this device now in June 2024?
Is it still Gamma?
If I want to play GameCube what’s the OS of choice?
…help! 😏
Which is a better out of the box experience between the 405m and RP3+? I know gamma OS adds a lot, but which is more of a start and go?
Apart from that, thank you very much for the guide, mate.
i just had the same problem, thank you!
@@Sherkov_ glad to be of any help
I was doubtful about upgrading since I ve invested so much time on the configuration but I will do it. Great review!!!
Hope you enjoy it!
How did it go?
@@RetroGameCorps
Oh that makes it much better.
Im also torn between rp3+ vs rg405m with gamma os. I still chose rp3+ bc of the L2R2 placement
Just bought my own 405m and love it! But this definitely looks like a game changer. Time to change the OS😂
Worth it to get rid of the oversharpening alone, imo. I can't fathom why Anbernic implemented this crap in the first place.
I firmly believe there is someone in each company's team that is tasked to ever so slightly sabotage their products so there is room for a new device to sell :D tin foil hat off now :D
@@obvious_giraffe8386 Nah, they are just idiots.
Is it true the Gamma OS made the PS2 performance worse???
No, it’s actually better. It uses the Retroid pocket drivers
I'm really interested in how much this OS improves the 505, as it's significantly cheaper than 405m or rp3+, at least here.
You might wanna watch his new video on the RG505 that shows off GammaOS on it. The low price is definitely a good point for buying it.
@@TarikA seen it, thanks
On the stock os I had 3do working flawlessly Since upgrading to gamma OS now it is no longer working and I can't get it to work. I also can no longer connect to my computer to transfer files
How to switch perfomance modes? I tried r3+l1+r1, but nothing happening
I just hold them for a fews secs then works
Definitely doing this when I get home from work today. I used your original 405M setup guide and gamma OS looks like it's worth it for the Xbox functionality alone. Thanks for your invaluable service to this community!
Wow the screen quality while going through the systems is outstanding!!! Great improvement over the original OS
The video is awesome and plus, the last part comparing RG405M and RP3+ is extremely valuable. Thank you!
Note: Installing this OS will WIPE DraStic (the paid DS emulator) from your device. It's worth the €4.49 but it somehow came free with this Anbernic
Can you back up the DraStic app to an APK and then re-install on Gamma OS?
@@L337g4m3rI did try to do this but it wouldn't take. However I'm a video editor not a retro console tinkerer so others might fare better.
Is it now possible playing most of PS2 games without too many lags? Performance are now better (or at least similar) than Retroid Pocket Plus ?
The best retro gaming channel on RUclips ❤❤❤
By far the best!

hello, will you do a guide/review of the latest version of batocera for the rg35xx or the dual boot version of garlicOS?
The real killer feature of GammaOS is the removal of the Anbernic boot jingle 🎉 🎵
Wouldn't comparing the 505 to the rp3+ make more sense in a 1 to 1 comparison? The 505 screen with Gamma looks so much better for example
Thank you for your videos, great stuff! I keep getting a "no compatible devices found" with the Spreadtrum / Unisoc Bootloader Unlock Tool. Can't find a solution.
same here :/
I did the upgrade and I really like it a lot, but I’ve found so far that it only wants to use retro arch for everything.
Sorry man, I want to help you. I know the fix for Redream, but for some reasons, my comments keep getting deleted. I have no idea why. 🙄
Are there any custom/optimized ROMs for the Retroid Pocket 3+? Or is it not needed? Just bought one, waiting for it to arrive.
I too am curious. I'm also really close to getting an RP3+.
Fake bluetooth controller hack is brilliant.

Thanks for the tutorial made me subscribed 😊
Does the 405M play well for NBA and football?
Is it possible to put GammaOS on a Retroid Pocket 3+🤔
This OS has made me glad that I chose to keep my RG505 vs my RP3 (non-plus). I honestly thought the blooming was due to it being OLED, but the screen looks sooooo much better now, it's insane. Sure, not as high res as the RP3, but the pop and color clarity of the Vita OLED screen can't be understated. (Don't get me wrong, I liked the RP3 also, but I honestly prefer the slightly larger/chunkier feel of the RG505, and the larger screen is easier for my old eyes lol)
Thanks for the guide!
Ok so Gamma OS has completely changed this device for me. I literally deleted my ebay listing for selling this device. Great job team!
Is it safe? Not tryna brick my device

It would be cool if you make a video showing all the games you can run on that device, also can you play mobile games like brawlstars without any problems?
Nice video man!
Has Anbernic releases any devices yet that don't require community firmware/OS to be worth buying?
The RG353 stock OS isn't half bad, but it's also just resting on the shoulders of community devs. That's probably the one line of devices where I don't think that updating the firmware is 100% necessary.
I thought about getting the 405M BUT the screen issues reported by some made me skeptical if it'd be a good choice. I currently have a 353M.

I love you Russ!
You rock man!

My issue with this OS is that all my PSP games went sideways to the right. Had to do a fix by Video -> Output -> rotate 90 degrees. I don't think its the shaders fault. Maybe something messed up with the PPSSPP configs out of the box.

love it on my rg505. now its my go to device for emulation and even for android games if they are compatible. streaming works finally too without button issues and again shows how weak anbernic is on the software side. dont get me wrong, i love their hardware and its the most devices i have from them but seriously every stock firmware from them has major flaws, which the community needs to fix for them
I think the RP3+ still edges out the RG405M.
Hey, did you ever try it? I wanna know which button you pressed too
stuck on fastboot mode onfo: lock flag is: unlock what do i do ? it wont install gamma OS
If anyone manages to make this work with Wine on MacOS please let us know 🤞
Hey Russ, it might be an interesting idea to re-review the RG 505 with this new update as it is ab way cheaper option for s ton of people and this might be an interesting take.
Plus it's much closer to 16:9 and the OLED display is pretty.
@@brogers4178 Except that the vast majority of retro was 4:3 not 16:9. 16:9 is mostly just good for Android stuff and PSP.
@@L337g4m3r That's why I have the RG35XX and Retroid Pocket 2 😆
I just got mine, I restarted it and now everything crashes every few seconds.
Hopefully GammaOS fixes it cause all I can do is play Play Store apps on it right now.
How do you scroll the platforms in the luncher with del shoulder buttons? My odin doesn't do it
You'll need to go into Daijisho settings, under navigation > hotkeys, and set them up.
@@RetroGameCorps unfortunately only works with side buttons, no side triggers
@@frederick_marshall ah, yeah depending on the device sometimes the shoulders or triggers won’t register correctly in Daijisho. In those cases I usually map those functions to L3/R3
Hi, I recently got RG405 ,installed Gamma OS, now i need some help, i wasn't able to rotate screen in vertical display, so how to fix it back to horizontal mode in Gamma OS playing games like in PSP, and how to remove Platform , that i don't have games for , also is there a way to uninstall the Gamma OS and reinstall back the Anbernic Stock OS ! ,,,please and it would be a great help for others too, if you can help out, thank you so much
I want to add, the Dolphin MMJR and Citra MMJ apks ran basically flawlessly on the stock OS, so I imagine GammaOS is gonna blaze through games with these versions.
I'm talking near solid 30 fps in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Sonic Generations 3DS and full speed in Shantae Half Genie Hero and Hollow Knight (Ripped from my own collection)
So I'm looking forward to GammaOS performance in these.
