Thanks for watching. This primer bulb wasn't working so the fix is to replace the carb however it would take days to arrive and I need to fix it today. The repair has now become a hack . Авто/Мото
I have a Homelite brush/weed trimmer that I bought new in 1985. It still has all the original parts and equipment except for the priming bulb and fuel line. Even the spark plug is original. I just keep everything cleaned and conditioned it runs like a champ. Famous words, keep thy shop and thy shop will keep the. It's one of my favorite pieces of equipment when it comes to clearing brush.
very nice, thank you Mike.
Great initiative to teach others how to fix their own machines!. Really commendable indeed 🙂😇🥰
You explained to the T, what I needed! I'm a widow and you just don't realize the things you take for granted that a husband does till they are no longer there!
I'll try any hack before buying because buying has gotten to time consuming!
I understand and thank you Bbb Ford.
Great video, well done. When you need it now, do it. You can always buy a carb and replace the hack when needed.
Very well said. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Nice video and I’m poor and can’t afford new weed eater. The one I bought was stolen and I loved it so now I’m trying to fix several that I had laying around not running to hopefully get a running one and your video is helping me achieve that. Greatly appreciate it
Sorry to hear yours got stolen. Good luck on the repairs.
Home Garage thanks bud appreciate it
I will try the hack and order the parts to make the perfect repair. A hack always gives you a window to finish the job great video.
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
no choke on this trimmer , that primmer pin simply activates the fast idle ,
nice hack and good tuning skills 👍👍
Thank you for this great video! Saved me a trip to buy a new trimmer!!
no problem
All right, I've got My machine brand new. Thanks a Lot.
no problem
Im not hacking the bulb, i will be replacing entire primer assembly, not the carb. Thanks for the video.
I understand. Thank you for the comment I appreciate it
Great video. I like the hack repair
Thank you Paul Zacher for the comment I appreciate it
That was great mod. 👍👍👍👍
Thanks man.
Thanks for your videos is very helpful
You're welcome
That fuel cap retainer...I noticed that was laying in my gas tank to and that's probably why fuel leaks out of the breather hole on the cap. So thanks for bringing that to my attention
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Excellent video
Thank you for the comment. I appreciate it.
Amazing video..thanks for sharing..
thanks for the comment I appreciate it.
Probably the part because I usually have a spare trimmer or mower. Thanks and Blessings!
Good choice!
@@HomeGaragechannel I try! Multiples work vest for me. Fire it and go!
I'd do a hack repair to get myself out of trouble on my own personal equipment but professionally I'd replace the primer bulb & fit an unbroken retaining ring onto the primer bulb assembly to save wearing the warranty cost if the repair fails.
The only time we used that JB weld stuff professionally is when we were repairing power tools & the armature fans would come loose on the armature shaft on the Rupes polishing buff (they're an Italian made electric polisher).
My manager & I would add the 2 part epoxy glue onto the shaft ,machine it down when it cured then press a good used fan onto it.
That saved charging the customer for a new armature & actually allowed us to make money by getting the job done, otherwise it would just be a non repair job & it's a waste of money throwing a $400-$500 AUD polisher in the rubbish bin !
Wow nice. Thanks for the information.
For consumable parts like the primer bulb, I would've tried a zip tie or copper wire as those are easier to remove.
First, it is a very good video. Secondly I would refer to it as a "thinking outside the box teachable moment" to isolate the EXACT problem. Great job and YES I would get it running this way if it was mine.
Thank you Dave for the comment I really appreciate it
Good vídeo home
Wait so the hack was buy a new primer bulb and glue it on haha brilliant
yes it was a desperation hack.
I have a hack if your primer bulb dry rots and you need to use your equipment asap you can tear the primer bulb off and cover it with a plastic bottle cap. Did that with a leaf blower and a pressure washer. May need to dump gas in air filter to start, but the caps were perfect size for my equipment to make an air tight seal so they would stay running.
thanks!
A 'fix' to a broken retainer ring with epoxy is cheap and simple and generally reliable if it is not banged around. Buy another one and put it on if needed (maybe selling off a free device).
It was definitely a temporary fix. Never meant to be a shop fix. It was so terribly abused that I had to make sure it was even worth a replacement carb.
Fuel additives rot fuel lines. On a Echo HC-150 hedetrimmer, DON'T use the rubber hoses provided! The lines rot and fall off causing a fire! Use clear lines. If your trimmer stops, check for a loose filter. The line has rotted.
Thank you Hank Bridges for the comment. Good tip.
You put the air filter box back on upside down...good info though.
You're absolutely right thanks for pointing it out. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Hi well this video has answered 2 of my questions, where does the fuel splice go, and what is the star washer for which fell out of the tank, along with the old hard bits of fuel lines, thanks a million, love your clear and simple videos, ps i have started using my compression tester more, after watching your videos Thanks from the uk
I'm glad this video has been very helpful to you. I appreciate your comments.
Great video 👍 I've done similar hacks on my personal equipment just to get it going. Looks like your hack will probably out last that trimmer.
Thank you Alan Marshall for the comment I appreciate it
I cant get the ring/ cap so im guessing u smashed it off to smitherings ,i dont have an extra cap was going to try a plumming washer since i have hundreds of various sizes on hand w/out any opoxy ofcourse . I wish these how to's would do the truths & stop the edits doesnt make you look any better
Stupid little primer bulb.. always gum up on me before everything else.. you gave me the idea though somehow and i ripped the thing off and put a turkey baster bulb on it.. one squeeze primed and damn near flooded.. lol. And if you want a litte more ass when eatin weeds just squeeze the bulb a little bit and itll try and blow flames out where the exhaust used to be..
Interesting concept
I was getting ready to take my weed eater apart, something said just look inside the tank 1st. The plastic thing that keeps the cap from getting lost...... file filter line was wrapped around that. .primer bubble works great again. Thank.god because I can build a house but not mechanically inclined the slightest lol
its ironic isn't. i can't build a house but i can fix this. thanks for the comment I appreciate it
@@HomeGaragechannel well we can team up and rule the repair business hahahha.
Thank you for the help man. I didn't know there was anything in the tank aside from 2cycle until I watched your video. Then my kiss mentality kicked in. KISS. keep
It
Simple
Stupid
Hahaha
@@richlight yes KISS is always great to remember
@@HomeGaragechannel ohhhh tell that to the tax man. They never kiss me before they **** me hahahaha.
I wound up having to take the weed water apart and put in a new filter line . The thing worked for a day but the lines integrity was so deteriorated that a few days later it was back to the same problem. The line was collapsed in on itself. So I should have just bought it and did it right but at least I got the grandparents taken care of before I had to replace it
Thanks again. I learned a lot from your video , and even more from taking apart after I forgot almost everything from your video hahahah
@@richlight no problem and thanks again
Hi! The box filter is reverse. 😁
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
@@HomeGaragechannel Sorry for my bad English just wanted to tell you that the filter box was mounted backwards. You are very good Hi
A good video I would do what you just did. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
assuming you have a new primer bulb and fuel line....which I don't....seems like a great tip! I am screwed though, for now.
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it. Both can be bought online for very little.
@@HomeGaragechannel No problem man...I'm just stuck without a car today! Already cleaned the carburetor but it isn't getting enough gas. I will replace bulb and fuel lines in morning...darn grass eaters!
Great fix home garage say what happened to the go cart you was fixing
It's still around. It's on the back burner.
Iwould wait
good choice
Great video can you please tell me where can I get the full replacement that glued?
Thanks. The last time I searched I found the primer bulb and plate on ebay.
@@HomeGaragechannel to this especific brand? , I think I broke it too 😁
@@alumno131 yes it was specific to this brand however I would suggest buying the entire carb instead.
@@HomeGaragechannel sure will thanks
Great video !! Where do you recommend to buy a new carburetor? I got the same as on the video
I go to Amazon. Put in weedeater carb and then look at the pictures
Anything to get it running if its mine. I am working on two featherlites now the one is just like to one you are working on and it ran fine last year and now no spark and a coil is on the way. the other one is mine and older and needs a carb because it would run fine and rev up then die so i replaces the fuel lines they were bad but after running it it was the same so when i tried to adjust the carb the high speed jet i turned it all the way in and it made no difference so for 10 dollars i ordered a new one.great video by the way
Yes a replacement carb would be the way to go.
Hey Hunter. Remove the cover on the crankcase and check for cracked plasic. Sounds like you have an air leak.
Breather is upside down lol
You know you are the first person to notice. You get a smiley face. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Lol I scrolled down the comments seen no one said it.. so thought I would lol I also have the same weedeater
@@Ezdubs542 I love using these little weedeaters. So easy to use.
I bought mine for my mom but I like it more then my cub cadet it's so much lighter that's what I love
Oh and you put the air filter cover on upside down, if i was nit picking
It's okay. You're free to make any comments I appreciate them.
learn how to properly to store for winter and see problems before hand so you don't mod that leads to more problems .
You are absolutely correct
Why is there an extra trimmer head on the handle?
it's a spare,
Air filter housing was reinstalled upside down?
I didn't think so.
It always comes down to how BADLY you need it. If its okay for a week or even a couple of days, let it sit. But when it's your daily income, it's done before you go to bed.
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
I don't consider it to be a "hack" -- it was a sensible replacement of the defective primer bulb
Thank you for the comment. Either way it worked
I have a question for you guys, does this exact model of featherlite weedeater sst25ce let gas spill out from a little hole to the left of the intake side of the carb which then leads to a wet filter and wet carb and gas tank when this weedeater is purged too much ( when pressing the purge bulb too much)?
when purging air out of the lines no fuel should leave the carb, I'd replace the carb.
@@HomeGaragechannel Thank you so much for your Work, Honestly you are helping out a lot of people.
I would have much rather rebuilt the carb, i guess some carbs can't be rebuilt?
no problem and you can never fully rebuild them, like at the factory, so sometimes replacing the carb is the best choice
Try a heat gun to soften the bulb ring. If it still breaks a zip tie is your friend
ah that's a great idea
On to hack or not hack the fix. It depends on how much it's worth or how I feel about the piece of equipment as to whether I have a soft spot for it - lol 😆
It's true that if I had an attachment to it that I might think differntly about a hack repair.
i would buy the replacement piece of hardware like in this case a carburetor.
It means really good sense to do it. Thank you Patrick Stapleton.
I wish you'd have shown the gasket and order.. awesome video.. Thank you.
can you give me a time stamp in the video so I know what part your asking about? thanks.
@@HomeGaragechannel You didn't show the tear down of carb. I was hoping for the order of the gasket and flapper thing on the top of the carb. I am trying to repair my weedwacker and for some reason, it wont run. I have watched many videos but this is the one that is like mine, altho I dont know the order of the gaskets, and am having a hard time getting a gasket/carb kit for it. Do you have a video showing that??
@@kathy5939 Oh I understand now. I think I have a video on a different machine but it uses this "longer" style of carb. give me a minuted to try and run it down.
@@HomeGaragechannel awesome ... Thank you..
on this trimmer, the primer bulb is on the carb versus on a remote lever system but the body is the same in this video. It should help.
ruclips.net/video/fQM1BFpbRvs/видео.html
I had took my primer bulb off and now it won't stay on. Would gluing it back on mess it up? or just get another piece?
get another
I been having the same issue with my primer bulb . I bought a new prime bulb but It won’t stay . Is there a way to make it stay ? or should I buy a new carburetor
I pulled the same trimmer out of my neighbors trash to fix but have not got around to it. It starts and stops running. I figure carb / lack of gas flow. He also took off and threw away the grass shield.
Thank you for the comment. Yes its seems to be a carb issue. Good grab. Just get a replacement one and you should be good to go.
@@HomeGaragechannel - I think I'll try cleaning it first if they are $20. I'm not sure i want to put that much into it. Plus I saw one video where it said it's actually rough on trimmers to run without the gas shield causing more stress on the engine because they run faster?
I don't know about that but yes try cleaning first.
@@HomeGaragechannel - well your video inspired me to take another look at it and I've found a problem which is probably the problem. The gas input line is broke near the top of the tank and the filter and the rest of the line is just laying in the tank. I think the carb is good and just needs new gas lines and should be an easy fix. I think a lot of small engine equipment is just thrown away with nothing much wrong.
You're absolutely right.
If you epoxy the ring to the base how could you ever replace the bulb again?
sure, this however was just a hack to get it working the day it breaks versus waiting for a new purge bulb or new carb to arrive.
Since primer bulb.broke on diassembly i would replace that. The carborator i would clean and watch if i have performance issues. At that point i wojld replace.
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it and I agree
If the primer (actually purge) bulb has a crack, it'll let air into the fuel system and mess up the fuel/air mix in the carb and bog down the engine.
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
JB weld? Is it impervious to gasoline?
Hacks work great for awhile
Mr MacGyver
The gas isn't in contact with the gas.
slow cure thick 'hot glue' may work as well.... and faster (sets in 3-5 minutes).
Yes that's a good choice too.
It would have been nice if you showed me how you clean that screen and it would have been nice if you showed me how to get that ring off
which screen are ask about? Oh the ring, just pry it off with a flat head. If I don't show it, it's because I'm leaving it up to you, to decide.
That JB weld wont last long. gas eats through it like nothing
You're absolutely right
+1 on Hacking
Thank you it was definitely a hack job.
Air filter is on upside down.
Yes it is, thank you Pilot Paul
Order parts and hack to get the job done in the moment...
I completely agree with you.
Quick fixes will get your stuff through the season. Then you can buy yourself something better.
Yes well said. Thanks for the comment
@@HomeGaragechannel I hope you realize your videos are an inspiration for the DIY fixer crowd. These videos are more than a hobby. They make owning equipment more economical. Thanks, Home Garage.
Thanks man. That's makes me feel good.
That's the way you do it why replace a carb because of a little dirt
Thanks for the comment
That was one of the worst designs of a carb choke system i have worked on... Those ol green featherlutes aren't worth the time. They don't have longevity ..
Good video though
thank and yes it was a strange design
I would hack it for a temporary fix then when I have time I would fix it properly. But if it was someone else’s I would do it correctly the first time.
Excellent answer thanks for the comment
only it I had to
thank you for the comment I appreciate it
Only buy as a LAST resort. 70yo / UK
I completely understand why
Did you ever used PREMIUM gas?
No I use mid grade no ethanol
@@HomeGaragechannel Is premium gas safe for trimmer use?
@@samuelvelez1643 absolutely but I've seen people only use 87 octane with no problems
@@HomeGaragechannel I've used regular gas,but this time I decided to switch to premium.... If it works,I'll let you know
@@samuelvelez1643 excellent thank you
Instead of regular gas
regular gas is okay but premium is better
@@HomeGaragechannel that's why I decided to switch to premium; if it's good for your car, it'll be good for smaller engines
@@samuelvelez1643 very true
How much for that
Which part are you asking about
Fix it tgat primer is 15.00 thru Amazon most v time you break them messing with tgem
thank you Robert Yearian.
I wood by it
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Why would you have to buy a whole new carburetor when you could just unscrew the screw at the bottom of the primer bulb
I did not see the primer bulb sold separately only the whole assembly.
@@HomeGaragechannel It isn't a big deal to replace a primer assembly.
@@hankbridges5055 this one isn't normal.
I would hack it. Jake leg it the best I can to get the job done. Lol
Hack repair
yep
I would never replace a walbro or Zama carburetor with a cheap Chinese knockoff. By a $10 rebuild kit and a new bulb and you're all set.
yes that would have worked too
