For those who DIY or are just plain cheap this is how to fix an in-line primer bulb for next to nothing. This bulb came off of a stihl back pack blower. There are more mowers and lawn equipment out there then any one man can save. Each time a commercial grade tool goes to the dump I cry a little, so don't make me cry and save that old mower out back. Get it running and sell it on craigs list. Its the humane thing to do. Хобби
Thanks. I often wondered if there was someway to just replace the clear bulb. This is the only video I could find to addressed the subject.
Thank you for sharing this I know it may seem ridiculous to most and a five pack of those primer bulbs is like 10 bucks but I love being able to be self-reliant and not waiting a week for Amazon or driving 60 miles into Denver for parts
Exactly what I needed to know sir. Now I don't have to always buy new whole piece or throw away extra bulbs 👍
Thanks for the video, it's Sunday afternoon and I can't get to a shop till next week. This will get me out of trouble in the mean time. :)
Thank you i had the bulbs and 4 broken units and did not know how to install them , now i do .
Thanks man it came right off for me did it the same way with my vise now just waiting for it to dry although i only used loctite super glue around the part it clamps onto hopefully that works its for all surfaces. Fingers crossed, had trouble finding anything but just the rubber bulb. Didnt feel like waiting on an ordered new primer bulb.
Good video. I like the sockets idea. I'm going to try it without the weld stuff first. Hopefully it won't leak.
You saved my day! Been looking for a primer during weeks and you solved that for me. Sorry for laughing about the forgotten spring :).
very good idea for sure ! those bulbs are expensive ,I would rather do it that way , I bought a bag of the large bulbs on eBay for 4 bucks I will never have to buy another stihl bulb again , thanks for sharing !
awesome idea thanks for sharing !!!
Great idea. YOU THE MAN !!!!!
Great video, thanks for the info
how do you get the bulb out of a ryobi edge trimmer
Needed to know this now. Exact. Thx !
The best part of the video was, Ouch my finger!!! Followed closely by don't forget to replace the spring like I did. Curiosity got me, you don't happen to be from Maryland???
Scientifical? I loved it!
Hello ty my scotts self propelled lawn mower starts but doesn't stay on now I can't even turn it on due to the fact that I removed the primer bulb tried putting another one but couldn't get it to pump gas out
Worked just as good as new.
i like your video creative
Nice video ☺👍🏻.
Nice tip thanks
how can I get a bulb.
easiest method I've found is to cut a couple fingers off a latex glove, slip them over the busted bulb, trim and replace
+Daniel Mills great Idea especially for a quick field repair. How long does it hold up?
Not sure, but I imagine it'd last about as long if not longer than the original bulb
Dan ,great idea,I have to try that,if not than I will buy some bulbs and rig it up like Ben did..
LOL,,,,,at first I thought this was going to be a joke video.
Great idea mate
good to know . ill might try it some time .
Don't have much money to pay for repairs and for new equipment just getting by thank you
I bought some chinese bulbs off Ebay and hey failed upon installation. The little round cutout in the top of the bubble fell out. Its almost like they are designed to fail?
I need to replace mine but I'm not sure how to pull out the whole bulb with casing/spring without breaking.
what did you do with the spring?
I think I forgot to put it back in. oops.
Very useful
Thanks
Wear can I get one of those “sticks”?
If I use jb weld and need to replace the bulb again someday, will I be able to replace the bulb or is this a one time fix? thanks for posting
If you get the surfaces cleaned and prepped right it should be fairly permanent. I would guess that you could get it apart again if needed.
Used PVC glue to good effect on certain off the label things. Guess I ought to use JB Weld too.
The PVC Glue sounds like a good idea. My only worry about it would be excess glue squishing out on the new primer bulb and eating a hole through it. I will try PVC Glue next time I replace one. It would be great if it works because it would cut the cure time down to 30 seconds making it possible for road side repairs.
Great video... I just rebuilt the carb on a Poulan Chainsaw and now the fricken primer bulb decided to crack... I got 2 hours to get it fixed... Im going to try the PVC Glue and your socket trick... Thanks for sharing your video
How did you get the primer bulb(the whole rig) out?
(Yeah, I know: two year old question). There are usually plastic tabs on the back of the bulb assembly which snap into the hole the assembly came out of. Depress at least one of the tabs and it should come out. Remember: there are two tubes on the back of the assembly. One is longer and is usually marked "In". This is the line coming FROM the carburetor. The other line goes to the tank. The bulb does not actually suck fuel from the tank and send it to the carb. It actually sucks fuel completely through the carb and sends it to the tank. It works this way to get all of the air out of the fuel passages in the carb, and ensure that the carb is full of fuel for easier starting.
@@flyboy2610 Very nice of you to explain the proper function of the purge bulb. I also subscribed. You now have 20 subs! 🥳 Have you ever watched Steve's Small Engine Saloon? He is a great teacher.
Just what I was looking for, nobody shows how to take the bulb out even though they buy the kit with extra bulbs.
Thanks 👍
Primer bulbs are $10 bucks a pop 🙁 gahhhh geeze 🙄 thanks for sharing 💖✨✨✨✨
Yeah, it's better to buy new but in an effort to make original content I thought this was the way to go with this video. Totally ridiculous repair that isn't very useful to very many people. But it's here for anyone who might need it.
I knew this video was legit when things started getting scientifical!
Where did you buy your primer bulb
+Bob Joe I bought a couple of ten packs of various sized primer bulbs off of eBay.
+Ben Huttash ohh okay thanks
Very scientifical
God damn, Something like a stick!! I am on the wrong video for sure.
👍👊😀
just got one from replacement parts .com for $5.00 , all of primer bowl,
This not a repair, this is a replacement.
Uh, usually the whole primer casing and flexible bulb are only sold as a unit (of this type)
-When he broke the two pieces apart with a hammer... that made him able to replace the bulb, REPAIRING the otherwise disposable casing. I wondered how to fix that thing without Breaking the casing. (repair and replace. -all good!)
-other bulb setups are veery different. (Just replace the bulb.)
when the hammer drops how am I gonna get one off ebay.. WORTHLESS!!! ;) jk nice video man :)
just buy a replacement bulb and most likely the fuel lines and filter are useless, tii. Get a kit for cheap and renovate the carb.
easier way to take the two pieces apart use one of those Putty Knifes with a semi-circle cut out of it
Stick er in between the seam on the outside and just give it a little leverage and it pops off no clamp needed
on the subject why the fuck haven't they graduated to a twist off primer i mean wouldn't it just be that much easier to change it if all you had to do was twist the cap off o.o' ... but i guess that's really not the way things are going the new generation is getting smart enough to DIY on everything so they just gotta make things brand specific like who the fuck in this world owns a Triangle Screwdriver bit like i will agree that is probably the best shape to use on a screw so it doesn't strip but who the fuck owns or even knows where to buy em.
i hate different Screwdriver bits its like the people making the screws cant decide on a good fucking shape so we have like 34 different types of Driver Bits im about on the verge of saying FUCK SCREWS and im going back to Nails
Primer bulbs on trimmers are PLASTIC JUNK! POOOOOOOOOOOOOOR design! Bypass primer bulb! Ya pay 4-6 bucks and break over and over and over again! Should be rubber like on Lawn Mowers that last just about forever!
mike jones / come on man, how else can the globalist make his fortunes if not by making things NOT LAST! That's OK! THEY are allowed, we are not...
I'm afraid you failed to survive the end of the world because the ebay seller that sold your much needed bulbs .... was eaten in the first week by zombies.
Good instructional video, missleading title. Was hoping hed show how to fix a primer bulb not replace with a new one. Guess ill have to buy the $15 3 pack at ace. Outrageous how they charge 5 bucks per little rubber bulb.

I guess I'm just that cheap 😂😂😂
Or, you could just buy a new in-line primer bulb and you don't have to mess with epoxy or letting things dry in a vise.
All that work to save a few bucks? Really? How about just using duct tape?
Tried it today- trouble is as soon as fuel is fucked into the bulb, it makes contact with the glue of the duct tape and it loses all grip/ seal.
Duct tape?
been using it for years,
it change a woman's reply from NO
to
MMMM MMMM MMMM MM
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
XD
yes, that way you will never be able to repair it again.
That is the stupidest thing I've seen!
+Carl thank you it was at least $30 of skilled labor to fix this part. LOL.
Ben Huttash I'm sorry I said what I said but you should replace the primer. It'll leak. To test a primer, put the primer and hose in water and pump. If water shoots out, it's good.
+Carl no need to apologise it is a very stupid video. When I first thought about messing with RUclips I wasn't sure if I had anything to add to the conversation. I made this video just trying to do something different and not just replicate what others had already been doing. Now days I try to be more useful and hopefully my content has improved.
Ben Huttash I'll delete MY stupid comment. I'm sorry I said it. It's a VERY good repair trick! I'm not feeling well.
