William was one of the greatest. Saw him several times. Corresponded with letters and he was really a great guy, down to earth. We will miss his genious on the harp. He left us too soon and was a medical misdiagnosis that took his lfe for treatment too late. God Bless him, he had soul, feel and real tone and feel. He was a bluesman all the way and always played with top players. He was dynamite.

I was trying to get an interview with Mr. Clarke and his band back in the early nineties in Trondheim, Norway. They were too tired (or too drunk?) to do the interview after the show, so I was promised an interview the day after if I drove them back to their hotel. Done. William Clarke and the band treat me to a bunch of stories over lunch the next day, it was a session I will never forget. I only learned today that he had passed. May he rest in peace, one of the greatest blues harp players and story tellers that ever lived. My heart is a little bit sadder knowing he is no longer with us.

He was absolutely amazing, and yes, a really nice guy. I had the opportunity to visit with him at one of his shows in LA in the early 90's. We shared a beer between sets, as it turned out I'd met his wife a few days earlier at her work. I'd just turned 21 and hadn't been clubbing much, and thought it so cool this blues genius was just hanging out and being a regular guy with this young blues fan. His performance was so intense that night, I've never seen anything like it, before or since.

jeff emerick My all time favorite William Clarke Band recording. The one from the record store is second favorite. Heck they could be my all time favorite live blues recordings. Wish there was more recordings with this lineup or at least with the Actor on guitar.

Ya, my mom sent this too me saying "Do you remember this? This was recorded in our living room!" I was probably 4 or 5...so sadly, I do not remember this. But I do recognize the pictures and sconces on the wall. Some of them she still has!!

Seeing as guessing a woman's age is fraut with peril, could you please tell us what year that would be?

I would have to say it was probably between 1983-86. I'll see if my mom can narrow it down more.

Thanks for posting! Thats Steve "the Actor" Killman on guitar. Cant tell who the drummer is? The Pace Maker? Will Clarke was a very friendly cat. He was always willing to talk blues with anyone! One of the best!

So glad I got see him twice. Second time I could tell all wasn't right with him. I always liked the quality of the musicians he surrounded himself with.

time frame seems accurate. Definitely Steve "The Actor" Kilman on guitar and Willie Brinlee on bass. Hard to make out the drummer- would guess Eddie Clark but it's hard to see...
