- After taking on several projects to help tackle the stigma associated with homelessness Ed discusses the little everyday things we can do to help homeless people. He slept rough for 48 hours in April 2017 in order to change the perception his students had of homelessness. This ultimately led Ed to take on several projects which challenged the stigma attached with homelessness but ultimately the aim is to empower people to take small actions, as simple as acknowledging someone on the street. He also co-founded the We Make Change Homelessness Community which on an organisational level, brings charities and volunteer groups alike under one roof to discuss ways they can collaborate together more effectively, something that is desperately needed when funding is so short.
Ed is currently putting together a small film of the Homeless World Cup from Mexico 2018 and is off to India to work with Slum Soccer in April, both fantastic projects which aim to use football as a catalyst in ending homelessness and social exclusion. Every city should have centers for the homeless. Large building, for 150-200 people. There should be a hot shower,a washing machine, lots of camp beds,a kitchen where you can eat and drink tea. Homeless people should be able to come there and spend the night, wash and eat.
The money, public support, and political will.
And the right amount of workers. Security, counseling, nurses, etc. I wish the employment process could get all of the good workers together to work at these places. Hire people who truly care about the cause because that's how we can change things.
Absolutely but unfortunately the government don’t care and sweeps them under the carpet
Bleeding heart do-gooders need to stop feeling sorry for the homeless, there scammers, close down the soup kitchens and shelters and you'll see how quickly these people start taking care of themselves
There are hostels but many people feel safer on the street
I'm a 12 year old girl and whenever I have lunch at school I got to this store and I always see a woman begging for money. Unfortunately my family itself has financial problems so I can only give a small amount. I really wanna help this lady because if I can help a homeless person get on their feet then I can have a good feeling in my heart..
Try offering other than money and wait for response, right there you will see which is more important to that person…. If they don’t want food or drink, it’s something else going on w them …. And I suggest that you think really good before you help financially, try all other ways first!, I think you are amazing kid and I love the way you are compassionate
Bless ur little heart try not to worry study hard god willing u will replace our heartless prime minister’s one day and will save the ppl but do nt stress urself keep ur head up and be successful in wt u would like to become one day
That's actually really sweet, honey. Remember that there are kids like you and since you uare young, you grow quick. If your clothes aren't worn out and you aren't giving them to friends hand them to people you see with kids.

Nothing is more wonderful as sharing with a stranger. The milisecond it takes to make eye contact in recognition to another, a smile, notice the young mother trying to pay for a purchase with little ones and they are ready to leave quickly, a simple can i help, any act of kindness matter.
When i was growing up in the 50s, no matter where, an elder man or women would comment about the good behavior and press a quarter the palm of my hand...as a child I was surprised anyone noticed...

I have to hustle at this point in my life I'm young and just starting to get my finances in order so I rarely have any money to spare, but whenever I have time I give a cigarette to homeless people, light it for them, and chat for a minute. It's very inexpensive and means a lot to people.

I so badly want to just sit down with a homeless person and talk to them. However, I am a young female. And since many homeless people have addictions to alcohol or drugs or are homeless because of debilitating mental illnesses, I can never just sit down with them and talk because I need to keep myself safe. How can I be kind and friendly to them without putting myself in danger?

Instead of giving ppl money to drown their sorrows give actual food to energise them to sort the life out or direct them to housing association or councils and benefits to get them a roof over the head u cannot build a life on the street

Honestly looking for help I'm really not sure there's this homeless man in the city I live (small city I live on the outskirts) and every time I go into the centre I always give him some money or I'll buy him some food and he always smiles and if I'm honest he probably recognizes me by now. I'd love to have a conversation with him and help but how do I know if that's what he wants? Not everyone is the same I could ask him if he wants a conversation but I'm so awkward I'd have no clue how to start one. Does anyone have any advice?
Offer to take him to lunch. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, maybe just something like Subway. But that would give you an opportunity to walk with him and share a meal together.

"funding is so short" Interesting how it takes 12 minutes to talk about removing your guilt by engaging with the homeless, yet money is what is sought after.
I’d bet all my life saving that if I gave a homeless man the option to have a apartment to live in or 200 dollars worth of drugs he’d pick the drugs........ 9 times out of 10.
Not all homeless people use drugs, and most users of drugs are not homeless. Can you honestly say you haven't used any kind of drug, ever? Judging by the fact that you'd bet your life saving on such a moronic stance, you're not the brightest tool in the back
