She seeks the help of a psychiatrist, and under his orders, quits her job and moves into a smaller flat under a new identity. She becomes interested in painting and a handsome neighbor. He soon finds out about her past when an ex-suitor implicates her in a murder.

Hollywood would be wise to review comments and sees what makes a successful movie! And to think not one cuss word, no cheap nudity. All natural beauty and strong gentlemen characters. No PC! Just quality!
Thank you Timeless for posting and sharing this wonderful movie!
I agree!!!!
They staered the cuss words and sex scenes in 1966..when they dumped the HAYES CODE
1933-1966
Today they want as much sexuality in the viewers eyes as possible so as to corrupt them.

I totally agree and modern movies i do not like at all.
Her psychiatrist was somewhat like her guardian angel watching over her in her hour of need. Wouldn’t we all love to have true friends like that.
Brilliant movie. THANKS
She wasn’t just a “Pretty Face “. We have the Electronics we have today because of Hedy Lamar. She found a way to jump Radio Waves and paved the way for Cell Phones and the Web. Yep, look it up 🙂
Not exactly true. I love Heddy Lamar but genius needn't be measured in application. She was an ideas woman.
Oh yes. I showed my brainiac son in law that. He was quite surprised
Yes, she was a PRETTY smart woman too! 😉
That's Terriffic !!❤
You sound condescending. Are you jealous? Do you have any notion of the value of ideas??? The value in ideas is immeasurable.@@chattingesque372
What a wonderful story it leads me to further understand how important it is to set boundaries in ones life and be confident in your worth as a person ..thank goodness this story went so well for the couple.
What a good comment you make. Thank you for seeing the humanity that tries to exist in any good film.
Hedy Lamarr was a genius , but the world only saw her beauty . This movie is a masterpiece . I only can say , thank you dear Timeless Classic Movies for sharing this film .
Shame the Navy stole her invention.
@William Woods The Navy/ Government at least should of compensated her Son & daughter $$$$ for Hedys mental prowess. She looked so much like my wife when I first met her at the age of 24. My dear Linda is also a member of Mensa with a very vast vocabulary & a very intellectual sense of humor with a HEART 💖 of gold. We will be married 49 years this March 30th 3:14 pm. Greetings from France 🇫🇷 🍷🍷 Arnaud Bourbon Amaral
HEDLEY!!!
That's "HEDLEY!!!"
Hedy Lamarr and Ava Gardner, two of the most beautiful women in film. No plastic surgery needed.
I love seeing the wicked witch from the wizard of Oz in these old movies!
I love these old movies. These were the days when the movie stars were naturally beautiful and handsome. The love scenes were so mysterious and beautiful!
Hate to burst your bubble, but they had the very best makeup artists, colorist and fashion designers. They even designed for figure type. Padding and girding was available as needed.
@@gaslitworldf.melissab2897
AND The Best photography/Advertising, and so on ...
Lighting and even filters on camera lens were also used. In Hollywood, nothing is “real”. There’s no denying that many that act are naturally beautiful, but they sure are even more beautiful thanks to Hollywood’s special effects.
Not to mention you had to be preternaturally beautiful to even make it into Hollywood those days, which is nice for us to look at but it made characters harder to relate to. They didn’t look like regular human beings, they looked like actors.
@@gaslitworldf.melissab2897 don't forget cosmetic surgery! Lamarr spawned a cottage industry for her surgeon.
Morris Carnovsky who played the psychiatrist played that role excellent.
1947: Two servings of lunch, one whole dollar.😢
Bandits!!!
To count for inflation. $1 in 1947 is $11.95 in 2020.
Thought the same thing
Thank you! Loved this movie. Just like most all movies from this era it actually had a story that made me want to find out what happened, even though I knew it would have a happy ending (again, like most movies from this era). Also, the sets are so well put together as is wardrobe. Hedy Lamarr reminds me of Vivienne Leigh, so beautiful.
Vivian was pretty but not beautiful. Hedy Lamarr was true apocalíptico beauty. Greetings from France 🇨🇵 Arnaud Bourbon Amaral
Ahhh
I miss the days where you could just wave the plane off.
It melted my heart when he asked her to marry her. She finally found happiness. Then at the court room, he confessed his love for her. Mostly of all, at the airport, he took her in his arms and kissed her. It’s every woman’s dream. I know it’s definitely mine. Love the story.
Any man's too. Each had to do some self-examination and believe it was real!
Spoiler Alert!
Too bad real life is nothing like this.
@@msmltvcktl Perhaps, but that people want it tells you something about the human person. We desire and are made for perfect happiness.
Your comment is so cute, and include me in the "every woman's dream" crowd! I really like John Ryan's reply to your comment saying it's also every man's dream.
Hedyv Lamarr was gifted intellectually and was an inventor. She invented something called frequency hopping that became the foundation for wifi, GPS, and Bluetooth technology. There is a video about her that focuses on her inventions. I watched it awhile back and can't remember the name. She was just as interesting as she was beautiful.
Bombshell
If you actually research signal or frequency hopping, Tesla is the one who originally did lectures on it, and even Marconi knew about it before that. It has been refined as our technology advanced, short and long wave spectrums and spreading certain ways was already known, but they did come up with a creative way to do it during a time where there was no electronic resistors but mechanical and magnetic devices to change frequencies
@@shable1436 Interesting stuff. It goes my head pretty quickly, which is frustrating, bc it's so fascinating. Thanks for sharing this!
Hedy Lamarr was born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler; November 9, 1914- January 19, 2000) was an Austrian-born Austro-Hungarian-American film actress and inventor. She was a film star during Hollywood's golden age. She was gorgeous.
How was this gem of a movie not more popular?! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!
The wonderful effects of light and shadow mastery in black and white cinematography isn't often appreciated enough by viewers these days, but the good cinematographers of today are always rapt with awe and appreciation.
This movie shows how women, no matter how smart and successful they are, were still treated as second class citizens, even by their own gender. Ms Lamar herself invented wifi but when she presented it to the navy generals, they told her, pretty lady's should stick to acting. That didn't stop them from trying to steal credit
Great story and lesson to always be true to yourself.
Know who you are what you want and like who you are?
Very well stated, thank you,for sharing your insightful perspective.
Really enjoyed this film. Hedy at her most beautiful.
I’ve watched this about 100 times. Just love it.
Bill Lundigan is not usually the bad guy - I've always enjoyed his performances.
The inference of the prosecutor at the trial is that anyone going to a psychiatrist must be criminal.
Hedy Lamarr invented the wave spectrum-something..
l know its used to this day.. even in your cell phone..!
she was brilliant!
Hedy Lamar looks just like Vivianne Leigh!!! Crazy!
Christina Dejesus I think she's prettier tho.
Christina Dejesus, Is very hard to tell them apart. In fact, Vivian Leigh looks like Hedy Lamarr
She would have made a good more film noirish version of Scarlett O'Hara.
Christina Dejesus that's funny,I just googeled Hedy Lamar &it came up how she &Vivian Leigh were close like twin sisters!
Christina Dejesus, She looks a lot like Vivian Leigh, but is actually prettier.
totally loved this movie, great actors one and all. loved seeing mrs howell from gilligans island playing a serious role. she is fantastic
lovey that was thurston howell;s pet name for her
@@robertwesley4416 Thurston Howell III
I've never seen her when she was young! What a beautiful woman she was!!!
I caught that "Mrs. Howell" was in this one. Also didn't I see the lady that played the Wicked Witch from the Wizard of Oz early on in the film as well?
@@kmom452 not Sure about that, glenda the good witch. She was exceptional.
I know it's gonna be fabulous when the credits read "Gowns by..." (not "wardrobe) lol. You know it's gonna be classy.
Love Hedy Lamarr, but I had to pull on my high top boots to wade through the syrupy love scenes and maudlin romance. But damn, Hedy truly has beauty for the ages
I love Hedy Lamarr movies. Thank you for uploading.
How good it would be if we all could realize that if we make up our own rules and go after our own heads we heading for Disaster ! Only following the Truth and God's Rules can lead to Love and Happiness !
I love Hedy Lamarr. She was so beautiful and a good actress. This movie was very good. I wish she'd made more color movies though.
HEDLEY!
Very good viewing. Enjoyed every minute of it! Thanks for posting.
Wow What a Gem of a Classic out standing acting by the whole cast no stupid bad language or unesscary violence great plot and story she was a looker and could act as well some of her expressions were PRICELESS you just do not see that quality much in any more movies thankyou so much for bringing it to us ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Classy movie- great cast. New York at its night club/ fashion magazine best. Hedy fabulously beautiful of course- underrated actress portraying a vulnerable, talented, witty, intelligent, perceptive art director wise enough to face her demons and start over. Love the psychiatrist- he gave good advice to her-and 20 million listeners. I believe co star Bill Lundigan became her second husband.
Johnny Depp has a song about her. I think it’s called Hedy Lamarr
Beautiful old movie....thanx for uploading this 👌👌.
One of these actresses got stranded on a tropic isle 17 years later.
Great movie and Hedy is absolutely beautiful. Thank you very much for uploading this "gen" and sharing!!!
I've always rather liked her. I'm currently reading her book Ecstasy and Me: My Life As A Woman. One thing I can say, she tells it like it is no matter how bad it makes her look!
Margaret Hamilton previously played Miss Gulch and the Wicked Witches of the East and the West in The Wizard of Oz (1939) and Mrs. Wilson in The Villain Still Pursued Her (1940)
"I'll get you my pretty, and your little dog too".
I am so glad that YT completely ruin the magic of old movies by inserting nonsence commercials every 2 minutes. Thanks!
I bit the bullet and paid for a year's RUclips subscription, which fortunately does not automatically renew so I still retain control.
Because I do focus on these old movies it has been worth it. No interruptions at all. One way or another someone has to pay.
Cable and streaming services having begun to slip in commercials on top of home WiFi averaging no less than 90 PER home is insanity at its finest.
RUclips monthly, 15 bucks. Download free at the library, priceless.
What a great movie! Thoroughly enjoyed it, thanks. And greetings from New Zealand.
The lady was dishonored TWICE
No one should go through that
I never bothered much with what people said or thought about me😂 Poor dear. Too beautiful to realize they envied her not hated.
Love it! Great old movies! Thank you!
I found it funny when Dr. Cousins was explaining his research to Hedy Lamar when she possessed a brilliant mind.
My thoughts exactly.
Beautiful and smart.
May she rest in peace
Well I don't know if anybody would find this interesting but something just occurred to me first of all I love watching old films and Hedy Lamarr such a beauty and the scenes and the costumes and the sets are so nostalgic so I turned on this movie and I remember thinking that Hollywood was such a simpler different and much more beautiful and classic place back in the forties and for some reason the Miracle Mile popped into my head because it has a lot of old buildings where friends of mine lived when I lived in Los Angeles in the 70s but oh wait a minute Hedy Lamarr back in the 60s was arrested for shoplifting in the Miracle Mile at the May Company on Wilshire so I guess life wasn't as simple as I thought it was La just looked better that's all
That is a very long single sentence.
Margaret Hamilton played the role of the Landlady, Mrs. Geiger
Thank you 🤩🤩💖
What a great movie!! Thank you!!
This was great. 👍🏽
One of my ALL TIME favorite movies.......love Dennis O'Keefe.....that was love
Very enjoyable...many thanks!
Thank you. It's a great and beautiful movie. I enjoy it.
Great movie - thanks! I’m on a Hedy Lamarr kick this weekend. This is the third Hedy movie I’ve watched so far. When I was in my twenties I was told I looked like her. At the time I had no idea of what she looked like, but he was right - I did look like her. I also learned that she was brilliant. She worked for the military and invented something? (Sorry I can’t remember the details.🥴)
She should have invented the first cctv-technology! But I don't believe that, to be honest. It was said that in the end no director in Hollywood wanted to work with her anymore because she was lazy and behaved arrogant and stuck-up to other staff members. In the fifties she took part in TV_Shows like "What ' s my line"! Her daughter mentioned in an interview that she needed to see a psychiatrist for years because she was so traumatized of Heddys behaviour.
I once saw a documentary with her two children and they took her ashes and buried it in Vienna , Hedy was an Austrian citizen and came to Hollywood when she was very young.
Hey you should use one of your photos as your icon, you know from when you were 20 and looked like Hedy Lemarr.
@@RosyOutlook2 You mean because my "Avatar" is an ugly looking person? That 's not me, it 's Stephen King , whom 's books and stories I like very much. He was younger there and had gained much weight.
@@RosyOutlook2 🙄 . . . 🤔 Maybe I will
She invented a way to jump Radio Waves to stop our enemies in WWII from hearing our messages and paved the way for all our wireless phones and communications.
Excellent film, Bravo!!
Thank you for the movie, I’m saving to watch later. I recently watched one with Lemarr called “The Strange Woman"
What a great movie!
Hedy Lamarr not only beauty and brains.
Beautiful movie. Lamarr at her classiest.
great. thanks
Good show 👏
Mrs. Howle is ageless.
Outstanding drama!!!
I loved it!
Enjoyed it immensely. Hollywood knew how to make them back then.
Now that was a Great"old movie!" What I am going to say may be "Poo_Pooed" but this movie showed a great actress in Miss Lamarr beside her usually studio glamour puss stuff. Of course she is Gorgeous in it with some of the gowns and a hats,l but the part was much deeper and she was far less over glammed. Miss Lamarr was incredibly smart person known for some important invention that we are all using even today!!!!! 5 Stars
Fantastic film must see. 👏🙌‼️
HEDY LAMAR WAS AN ELECTRONICS GENUIS BUT NEVER GOT THE CREDIT FOR DISCOVERING THE RADIO FREQUENCIES. PLUS I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE MRS. THURSTON HOWELL III FROM GILIGANS ISLANDS WHICH WAS NATALIE SCHAFER!
Excellent movie
Hedy's real life husband (one of five) was actor John Loder who played the wealthy Cortland.
What about Mrs.Tiger playing a landlord inside of the Wicked Witch on the Wizard of OZ...
Yes Margaret Hamilton played the Wicked Witch and Mrs. Geiger
Typecast
On trial she was asked if courtland forced her to go with him, and she said no, but actually he threw her in the car, so I don't get the story here, yes she was forced to go back with him because she was going to walk, he insisted, she said no, he grabbed her and tossed her in. Can someone help me out, or is my reality not working anymore 😂
He did maneuver her; especially when he saw she was tipsy.
Took advantage.
She was still punishing herself.....or at least not wanting to make any excuses for herself. Her guilt was still not quite settled, which would be perfectly understandable. Too "perfect" of an immediate recovery to change her into becoming self-confident and normal (as we presume normal to be) in just a few minutes on the stand would have seemed too phony, too artificial, lacking mystery. Remember, even after the trial she was still going to head off on her own to straighten herself out even more. She was still a work in progress, but finally on the right path. This was a journey of a lifetime reduced to the time a movie would allow. You mentioned reality. Actually, this did present a believable reality. Also, from the very start (the self-destructive wreck) to the very end this was intended to be a study in psychology. It was much more than a murder mystery.
wow The witch from The Wizard of Oz and Mrs Howell from Gilligans.. :)
This movie reminds me so much of The Bell Jar
SUPERB❤❤❤
great movie....now a new Hedy Lamarr fan...Did you know that she invented the basis of Wi-Fi and was indicted in the hall of fame for inventors? brains and beauty....she was Austrian and Jewish and was even married to one of Hitler's main men, Mandl....interesting life, read up on her bio
Indicted? Like on criminal charges? Why do I keep reading these comments?
NICOLE SOOBRIAN
East 44th. An Soho st. Just south of
inducted. not indicted. her autobio is 'ecstasy and me' and it is not about a drug, but a movie title.
NICOLE SOOBRIAN, You mean "inducted". indicted is when someone is indicted for a crime, like the democ(rats) will be soon.
Maybe because she was involved with Hitler's man (many of whom were scientists that escaped to the Americas, and subsequently became scientist spies for the US govt.) she had the intel aka ''invented' modern day Wi-Fi..
Beautiful & brilliant...trained in Berlin as an engineer. Without Hedy's mathematical genius, we wouldn't have cell phones!
She would be horrified !!!!!
These machines are nasty !!!!
They criticized her for not having cleavage; I think her breasts are fine!
Lovey Howell in this, very cool.
First smart. Psychiatrist. I've seen. Tho this. Is just. A story. A. Fairytale. Come true. To all with these mind. Issues. I. Want you all to. Experience. True. Love. And. Life !!!

Blazing Saddles has ruined Headly Lamarr's name for me! (I mean Hedy Lamarr) Darn it!!
Such a beautiful story. Hedy was such a beauty. In real life she was a smart women, a head of her time.
That was a good-looking Dame
That office she works in is so unprofessional and messy!
(Typical)
51:15 "She'll never change darling. She's just got herself a new set of words."
11-9-14 Hedy Lamarr, she any relation to Hedley Lamarr? Very enjoyable movie, especially after all the duds I have seen lately. Hedy was a very beautiful lady, as well as a very intelligent one. A combination that is rare, and hard to beat. Just a little fwiw, today is also the 100th anniversary of Hedy's birth. RIP Hedy.
I have never heard of Hedley Lamarr!!!!! lololol Are you sure you just weren't misspelling her name ??
Try watching "Blazing Saddles." ;)
Love her just saw the movie that Hamilton woman excellent !!
that was Vivien Leigh they where alike at times :)
I love Vivien Leigh in That Hamilton Woman.
I loved this movie.
Natalie Shafer was just as pretty. And the doc was the real star.
Reminds me of Effi Briest from Theodor Fontane or Eglantine from Jean Girondeux but with a Happy End Hollywood Style
Lovey!!
The Wicked Witch Of The West is in this movie??? (Margaret Hamilton)
Hedy sempre stupenda!
PS si potrebbe avere la versione italianizzata?
C'è nel senso con traduzione e sottotitoli. Perché non riesco tanto a capire la trama in sé.
Se potete! Vi ringrazio.
i was just in New York and saw the Brooklyn bridge the Hudson river 5th ave, the whole city what a wonderful place for this film. mrs howell thought she just played on gilliagans island, mrs gigar played the wicked witch on wizard of oz. im from Oregon guess i have something in common with the drs character. the prices are sure inflated now no dinner cost a dollar
so nobody else saw the BONG sitting on the table at the 27min 15sec mark ? 😂🤣
