    "The One" is another Elton late career song that is very good.

    Pop Masterpiece ballad from 1989. Pure pop perfection of a wordsmith with lyrics that brilliantly use sad words and a story of struggle while combined with uplifting slow heavenly sounds and chimes of bliss. Not the most dynamic tracks, but this is pop and pop is for the masses especially ballads in the 80s at there best.

    How I see it is that when there is nothing left , then there is nothing left to lose. Thus, " No sacrifice at all". A bit like in Bob Dylan's song Like A Rolling Stone, where he says " When you ain't got nothing, you've got nothing to lose "

    Completely, completely disagree with this review. This is one of Elton John’s most heartfelt ballads, written and performed at a critical juncture in his life, and together with “I guess that’s why they call it the blues”, is considered by many to be among his best work. No ‘trademark piano’ required here- the song holds its own...
