  • My mom, Anna Shaffer, studied directly with Joe Pilates. Here is a short film he filmed of her. His wife Clara is in the last bit. I remember going to the studio on 8th Ave as a kid. I especially remember the strong pine soap in the showers. Anna danced with The Atlanta Ballet, The National Ballet, professional opera companies and in Broadway musical tours. She was the founding director of Baltimore Ballet Theater and The Harford Concert Ballet Company. She currently teaches Pilates and ballet in Palm Coast Florida. If you would like to contact Anna directly, please email her at annashafferpilates@gmail.com

Hi Kendall, thank you so much for sharing. As your Mother was a ballerina I am thinking JP was using this to improve posture but would love to know his reason and what was he wanting to achieve for Anna. Also my question is how did it work and how was it fitted, did it rotate or did it just move when the head turned. Many thanks and would be lovely to know if you have any wanders.

anywho has an Anna Shaffer, age 85 listed in Palm Coast, Fl. I'm sure she could still be teaching. I see Tao Porchon-Lynch passed away yesterday at 101. She was the world's oldest YOGA teacher.
