The Making of a Farmhouse Coffee Table with a Lifting Top

  • My lovely sister requested a matching coffee table to go along with the media center I built for her in my last video. I built the structure of this table using only wood joinery--the only metal fasteners are the lifting hardware. The top is made of a locally felled and milled sycamore, a relatively soft hardwood that smells amazing when you cut it. The legs are oak scraps, most of the apron is trim from our house that we recently replaced. The only "new" piece is the bottom shelf, which I made from the remnants of the pieces of the media center project.
    Small editing error at the end cut me off slightly, but the coasters are made from offcuts of the sycamore top

    Hi everyone! As this is my most-viewed video, I wanted to pop in and ask you to consider subscribing and checking out some of my newer content; I've been working on renovating a historic building into my dream shop. Thanks for watching!

    I like your build. The coasters were a great idea. I'm making a thick farmhouse coffee table for one of our daughters to put in their new home. (4x4's) for the ends and 2x6 top and bottom shelfs. I'll be making coasters to match it. I'll keep watching.

    you inspired me. I'm going to look into using this design but make both sides lift up and lock, this way you can place a leaf inbetween them
    I'm trying to find a way to have a coffee table in the living room that turns into a board game table

    What's the minimum depth the tray can be for that lift system?

    • @HaylonWoodworking
      @HaylonWoodworking  3 года назад

      It was about 3.5" on this one, but it could have been a little shallower. I wouldn't go much less than that.

      @@Danny-gg6qk My sister actually bought them and sent them to me to use for this; there are lots of options on Amazon! I had to grind the ends off slightly to get them to fit the way I wanted.
