    At this point it's pretty much showing off.
    And I'm loving every minute of it. All these individual joints are an accomplishment on their own. But building an entire table with this many joints without mucking up on building or calculating is such an impressive feat. Getting to this level makes you deserving of showing off. It puts something to aim for, far beyond the horizon. Amazing

    When I started my career in 1978 , it wasn’t all done by hand but the joints would’ve been. I made church furniture in my first job for 11 years. I’ll tell you when this kind of mechanised kit eventually came through drop by drop, I for one was delighted. It takes nothing away from your skills as a craftsman sir.
    My workshop is my haven. Music on, countryside everywhere, I’m in heaven. The job I’m working on now is 30 “chunky” ( that was the description I was given 😂) music stands for a choir. Everyone of them a slightly different height. You’re table is magnificent 👍

    Very cool and very elaborate use of inferior joinery. If the goal was to demonstrate router joinery then I give it full marks but if the goal was to produce strong and reliable joinery then I give it an F. The leg’s pseudo castle joint is weak and needs the corner braces to partially overcome that. One can see the failure of the joint and its inherent weakness in the video when during the glue up a clamp is used to reinforce a part of the leg castle that has cracked while mating the top to leg 6:28 .This joint will fail in lateral stress. The traditional joint, because of its strength and reliability, is the mortise and tenon. So this design is form over function.

Most of the projects use the pallet simply as a source of reclaimed wood not as a recognizable pallet so even if you didn't have a pallet you could make these projects with any reclaimed (or even new) wood. The instructions are excellent. The style is charming and would work with lots of different decor. There are quite a number of projects that involve tiling of teh wood pieces which is a really cool idea and can produce beautiful pieces when working with aged wood.

It will expand hortzontally with changes in humidity. If that decorative piece was glued to the breadboard it might pop out if the breadboard shifts.

    I’m about halfway to your level, I can do several different joints, but I’m not combining them quite like this. You’re inspiring! I do recommend that newer woodworkers practice joinery by making boxes. You can make so many complicated joints and use scrap wood, or smaller pieces of quality wood at lower costs in smaller shops.

      Hi mate I really want to get into it, any other tips u can share with me please?

    • @dbackhusker
      @dbackhusker Год назад

      @@neurofunk2731 tip #1 - just start.
      Start with what you have and build slow. I don’t know what you’re level of experience is, if you’ve got some tools, some skills, or if you’re starting at the very beginning.
      Watch You Tube videos on basics (especially safety). Work with salvage wood, pine, pallet wood, whatever you can get easily. Get inexpensive tools, but not super cheap junk. You don’t need a $3500 Sawstop tablesaw, a $400 Dewalt is a good start. Network with other woodworkers. Hopefully you’re in a place where you can do some of these things.
      Ask me anything…

    • @neurofunk2731
      @neurofunk2731 Год назад

      Hi mate thanks for the reply, I'm scared of failing to be honest but I'm going to start with boxes. I have basic tools and know pretty much most safety stuff. Might do a box with rabbit joints first. Shall I get a tablesaw or mitre saw first mate? A tablesaw is more versatile right? Sorry for such a long message 😞

    • @dbackhusker
      @dbackhusker Год назад

      @@neurofunk2731 100% get the tablesaw. You can make an inexpensive crosscut jig, miter jig, and many other jigs. My tablesaw is the heart of my shop, and even when I had smaller, cheaper tablesaws, every project used it.
      A decent miter saw is great to have, also a planer and jointer, but you can make jigs for your tablesaw that will do much of what these tools will do. Buy tools as you can, and don’t forget most of those tools need blades, bits, etc. and those can really add up. Speaking of which, you’ll need a decent combo blade, rip blade, and then a dado stack for the tablesaw. You’ll probably want an upgraded miter gauge too. Make sure your tablesaw comes with an easy to use, accurate fence. Then take the time to adjust everything so it’s accurate. There’s a ton of videos out there to help.
