I picked-up one of these when they were blowing-out their remaining inventory. It was too cheap not to try! After receiving it and doing a little casual comparison I can offer these observations: Pros: 1. PALS webbing for modern accesories. A couple of USGI MOLLE canteen/GP pouches add tons of useful space and organization. The outside of the top lid is covered in PALS too, and a flat admin-type pouch would be handy as a replacement for the ALICE lid pocket. 2. Bomb-proof, made in the USA, construction of modern Cordura. This thing exudes quality - very solid. 3. Frame compatible * (see below). You can (and should) mount this to an ALICE frame, or any other comparable frame. Cons: 1. No pocket pass-behinds. This feature may or may not be useful to you, depending on who you are. The nice thing is, with PALS being how it is, you could gain virtually the same utility from the pouches you mount on the sides. 2. No lid pocket. As stated above, the PALS webbing likely makes-up for this. 3. Bottom straps are sewn, non-adjustable, and of limited utility in my estimation. They should've been incorporated into the top-lid securement straps so you could tighten them down around a load. 4. Not 100% frame compatible. While it does have the same top shroud that accepts an ALICE frame, the straps present on a true ALICE pack that would secure the bottom of the pack to the frame are not present, leaving you to do some creative things to make it work. Not a show-stopper, but certainly a disappointment when you sit down to mount it. I just wove the waist strap that comes with the pack in and out of the ALICE frame and buckled it, which seams sufficient. The pack should be prevented from sliding up and off frame by the shoulder straps. It's a very nice bit of gear, but it does have some oversights (or cost cuts) that prevent it from being REALLY good. After playing with it, I think I'm not in love with it enough to keep it since I have my ALICE packs.
I have this pack in Multi-Cam. Was an excellent value @ US $69.00 direct from Spec-Ops. Love it. Though the shoulder straps and cross strap doesn't seem to conform to my proportions very well. But, I plan to pick up the Metal Frame. Spec Ops Brand has some of the Best Gear available IMO, and I hope the Co. is doing well.
My biggest problem with most back packs is the bad ventilation! Mostl! After an hour of hicking, your back is wet! Only a gew brands, like Deuter Futra etc have a good ventilation systhem! What is your opion about that problem? Thank you and take care,

Hi Luke, that frame sheet looked a little tall for that pack to me. What does it look like when the pack is filled with that frame sheet in? How well does it close? I'm considering getting that pack soon and would definitely get the external frame for heavier loads but would want to go with an internal one other times. Thanks!

Some plastic plate frame can be used in cutting board too or sitting pad. Many purposes.

I carry about 70-80 lbs. I love the look of this pack and I’d like to know how it holds up while using the Alice frame before buying.

I have their T.H.E. pack and LOVE it. Does everything for me plus some. Great as an EDC pack
