  • Here's a short (updated) how-to gameplay video of Endless ATC v3.9.9 (store.steampowered.com/app/66..., to help get beginners started in this really fun air-traffic control simulator game.
Airport EHAM (Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, The Netherlands), with some voice commentary to help beginners.

For those of you interested, here are some hints:
    1. All regions start with just one active runway. As your score progresses, however, more runways and/or depending on the region more airports will be activated.
    2. The navaids can be devided into two categories. The navaids depicted as a circle are for departure procedures only and can not be used for giving a plane directions. That's what the other navaids (the circles with the little dots inside) are for. When you lead a plane towards such VOR it will start a holding pattern once it reaches that point, but you can also give the plane a certain vector. Which means you can tell a plane to go to SPY an then to continue on a heading of lets say 270 degrees.
    3. Departing aircraft can be ordered to expedite their climb by doubleclicking on the "Altitude-plus-button" in order to get them quickly out of harms way (an "E" will appear on the button). (Same way works the other way round - doubleclick on Altitude-minus to expedite the descend) Only bear in mind that the expedite-funktion works only to reach the maximum or minimum altitude respectively.
    4. When two aircraft are locked on parallel localizers they actually can undercut the seperation distance. It will not be punished as a seperation infringement, but only when they are both on the localizer at that moment.
    5. Even though the game allows you to give an ILS clearance when the aircraft can be up to 90 degrees angle from the localizer, in real life you should bring the aircraft on an intersecting angle of no more than 30 degrees. For example when the localizer is on 270 and the plane approaches from the south, its heading should be about 300 degrees before ILS clearance can be issued, or 240 degrees when approaching from the north.

Oh an there is one more thing that has slipped my mind. When you approach two or more parallel localizers and give an ILS clearance, the aircraft will automatically choose the closest localizer to lock on. Sometimes it can be more advantageous, however, to lock on to the farther localizer. In order to do so, just push and hold the ILS button for two seconds. An asterisk will appear on the button indicating that the plane will lock on the second localizer it crosses. This is a very helpful function when you try to clear a plane for the ILS approach of KATL 27R which is the middle of three parallel localizers. (When you run the ATL-section you need to reach a score of 16 to have all three ILS approaches activated.)
About my second hint I can imagine it is hard to tell how exactly you can choose a vector leading from a VOR. First you have to select a plane with your mouse. Now hold the mouse button and drag the cursor to a VOR. Then release the button, so that a yellow line connects the plane with the VOR. Then push the mouse button again when the cursor is over the VOR. A second yellow line will appear, which you can rotate with your mose button pushed down. When the second yellow line indicates the desired heading, release the button. On the plane-tag there will appear the name of the VOR, followed by a three-digit course, the plane will follow after reaching the VOR. Bear in mind, this will not work, if you are too close to the VOR, when issuing this command.

New to ATC and started playing this. I was creating my own virtual highways to make sure planes wouldn't come near each other with alternating altitudes. Wonder what the professional way of managing aircraft is ha ha.

It seems that's pretty much how they do it.

Very nice tutorial. I had free version, which I really enjoyed. Afterwards I bought full version. As for me, RJTT (Haneda) is the easiest to start, you have some VORs, perfect for vectors to land. You also have 2 landing RWYs with enough separation (no need to learn about parallel approach) and mostly enough separation between departures and arrivals. I have high score 22,3 there and I am not the most advanced user. Now I improve custom airports, like LHBP and LYBE. Love this game.

my favorite was „777 is quiet a heavy aircraft, I guess“ 😁😁😁

Important to say is, that an aircraft should join the glide slope in an angle of 30°. In your example both 777 overshot the glideslope first.

@AIRPORT Nerd the last turn onto final approach should be like a highway onramp angle and not like a sharp turn onto a crossroad.

Agreed, but this is for beginners, like me. Let’s get the basics down, then we can worry about passenger comfort 😂

Every once in a blue moon, you need a light sport plane that doesn't change altitude til the 3rd time, and a heavy that acknowledges but then takes 3 more minutes to takeoff or taxi.

Some randomness and pilot behaviour would be a solid addition for realism, but would be incredibly frustrating to deal with, as you are a single ATC, not a team of ATCs handing off stubborn planes to your colleagues.

Thanks for a great video. I've always been interested in ATC simulations even before I got my pilot's license. Question. If I have multiple planes inbound, how do I know which airport is their destination? There are no information strips that I can find.

    • @jonathangmeyer
      @jonathangmeyer  5 месяцев назад +1

Hey, good question. If they’re coming to the main airport of the scenario, they won’t have any real identifiers. They also don’t really care which runway of the main airport you send them to. The aircraft going to the smaller, peripheral airports will have a short code at the bottom of their ID. “LC” for London City, or “GW” for Gatwick, for example. They are also slightly different colours as of a recent patch to the game.

Jon, if you read this, do you know why Endless ATC is not on apple? I really want to get this game but don't know how. If you could tell me I would really apriciate it.

I actually emailed the developer to ask them. I would love this on Apple, as I’ve since moved to a Mac. They say it would simply be too much work to keep up with, and the costs of maintaining two code bases doesn’t make it worthwhile. Understandable, but disappointing.
