I know everyone says it but it's true, your videos are the best out there. All the information you need, mixed with humour and insanely high production values. Well done and thank you.
These videos are absolutely amazing. They are pure art. From graphic design to video editing and even the way you move your hands. Looks super professional. Amazing job.
Just bought a syntakt and as I was playing around the first night, I heard the bones of a 303 with the analog bass machine. I knew it was capable, and your video confirmed it. Thanks to you, I can oust my TD-3 and all of it's annoyances from my live setup. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Extremely well explained. After months trying to get a good 303 sound in my DAW software, watching this fixed my issues in under 5 minutes. Very grateful. Thankyou.
The first ever "acid" putted on wax ... Raga Bhairav, awesome album that all acidheads have to know and cherrish. Culte. Insane remix you've done with FBS type beats. Appart from that, this syntakt trick sounds pretty useful. Peace
veryvery nice vid! some hints (did not read through the comments, so sorry if I'm doubling) KBD: the cutoff is not keyboard tracked in a 303. resonance: resonance controls multiple parameters: it affects the cutoff, and the accent envelopes attack time apart of the obvious. accented notes: - decay time is fixed: it's the same as on the lowest decay time of the 303 - accent is additional envelope that adds up to the decaying envelope: it's attack time is a function of the resonance (no resonance means no attack, max. resonance means max. attack) waveform: - the square is not a perfect square, it has some pw offset filter: - it's a 24dB/Oct OTA filter design. it's referred to as 18dB/oct mostly because of one of it's poles is detunes by an octave - the filter is non-linear, which adds a lot to it's character (especially on the square wave)
In re-watching this video after getting a Syntakt I noticed something that was missed. The Syntakt has two slope modes for portamento - Constant Rate and Constant Time. The default is Rate however the 303 uses a Constant Time setting. This can be changed in the Sound menu by going into the Portamento submenu. Other than that, stellar video!
wow, this really showcases the value of simplicity with well-informed and thoughtful programming it really sounds like a 303 apprecitate your work, hopefully there will be more syntakt videos
FWIW, the Setup page offers a Velocity Modulation page, where you can have velocity increase the filter env depth (and also filter decay). I find that by having velocity modulation you can reduce some of the need for manual plocks on things like Filter Env Depth. YMMV
Just tried all this, and it’s really helpful, for a noob like me it helps to see what’s actually happening to the sound as you work along with the vid. …this 303 setup is also more complicated and time consuming than setting up an actual 303 😁 Thanks, Captain, great work as is usual 👍🏻
Nice work! The original 303 VFC did not have key tracking on the VCF (as far as I can remember). The MC 202 did have "KYBD". The 303 VCF's slope was approximately 24 dB/octave but I've read that it "behaved" like a 3 pole filter much of the time. It also had pretty significant nonlinear feedback in the ladder network due to the diodes, something which is super hard to emulate "correctly" numerically, using soft synth tech. You could really make that ladder whistle like crazy! Then again, no 303 sounded exactly like another.
Been trying to 303 with the tal bassline 101. This has given me some ideas espescially the 32nd note lengths. Had not tried that. Must admit, the syntakt is sounding great
This is excellent work as always. On top of being clever, well researched and succinctly explained, your visual style is so compelling. Thrilled everytime I see you upload 🙏🙏
Hey Captain! I've been following you for a while now and I think everything is perfect in your videos! The rhythm, the image, the sound recording, the color grading, the content, everything is neat/pro and I love the deep voice! Bravo and thank you for all this and don't change anything dude!
Would love to see a Model: Cycles overview! Even though theres plenty info out there, your videos are the most understandable and contain small cookies of wisdom that are hard to come by! (Also super funny)
Does sound kind of 303 but with limitations, the part when you put distorsion on it and just before it sounds crappy. But if not pushed to the limits it sounds quite good though. Very nice tutorial and good explaining of digging deeper in that machine! I am discovering it and that is helpful for me.
Thanks! I had an Analog Rytm MKII once, but it died on me after a few days because of a hardware failure :( So I'm a little hesitant to get another one...
Although more complicated, the Syntakt sounds just as good, and has more to offer than a 303. Elektron should create a 303 mode, but add some bells and whistles to the options. Considering the amount of tracks on the Syntakt, you could technically create multiple 303's, and have them play off each other. I just recently got the Syntakt, so I have yet to wrap my head around it. It's my first Elektron box. After experiencing how nice the Elektron boxes are, I've ordered the Octatrack MK2 and the Analog Rytm MK2. I'm thinking about getting the rest of them as well. I'm just not sure if I need them. I already own a bunch of other gear. I only had the Korg Analog Kick with the MS 20 filter, and the Syntakt for drum machines, so the Rytm made sense. I already owned a MPC Live 2, Maschine Plus, Deluge, and Organelle M, but the Octatrack offers options that they don't have, so it also made sense to get the OT. I own the OB-X8, Sub 37, Grandmother, Iridium Keys, Hydrasynth 49, Opsix, GR-1 Minilogue XD, Behringer Model D, and a pretty nice pedal collection, plus other gear, so I'm not sure if the other boxes make sense. I have a Hapax, Beatstep Pro, and SQ-64, so I have sequencer options. My software collection is filled to the brim as well. It makes me feel indecisive about getting the A4, and Digi's. I think it would be cool to have 2 A4's, to have 8 voices, with the Elektron sequencer on my desktop, but I could take that money and put it towards a Prophet 10, which is on my wanted list.
Just rewatched this vid. The best explanation of how to do acid on the Syntakt out there. I have one question. Regarding distortion. Did you use the distortion on the FX track to add extra distortion or just the overdrive on the synth page? Just curious. When I add the distortion from the FX track it sounds really close to the distortion pedal that you used.
You can find the notes to Raga Bhairav in our Donner B1 review (in the sound section with the example patterns). You can program these just like I did here with "Da Funk". And we have a video on the Amen Break pattern as well, just punch that into the Syntakt ;)
I know everyone says it but it's true, your videos are the best out there. All the information you need, mixed with humour and insanely high production values. Well done and thank you.
Thank you so much :)
You could call it "synth porn" 😉
That end track at 8:10 is Charanjit Singh - Raga Bhairav from 1982, I wasn't expecting this from the Syntakt, bravo!
I was like "Did anyone notice it?" 👌
@@avetisk noticed it immediately and subscribed right away because of it! The breaks at the end were a nice touch
THANK YOU, YOU'RE THE KING
Amazing. I never made it that far in the video but that's great!
Yep yep, absolutelly Charanjit Singh
WE WANT IT TO GO OW OW OW OW!!
These videos are absolutely amazing. They are pure art. From graphic design to video editing and even the way you move your hands. Looks super professional. Amazing job.
I absolutely agree. All youtube videos should be produced like that.

KBD:

accented notes:
- decay time is fixed: it's the same as on the lowest decay time of the 303

I just bought a syntakt this week ad your outro had my jaw dropped
🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for this! The little things like the legato and keytracking really do it.
This is outstanding. You earned a Patreon supporter.
Great tutorial. My first ever groove box is the Syntakt, this tutorial really helped me to explore it further.
New favorite RUclipsr and this made me buy a syntakt

Beautiful usage of the v mod page!
Bought a Syntakt today and this was literally the first thing I did - great tutorial! 😜
Finally! I tutorial on Elektron portamento I've been searching for! Thank you!

More Syntakt videos please 🤘🏻
I just ordered the Syntakt. This is the video I needed!
you should also decrease a bit filter decay for accented notes which is what accent does on tb303 .. otherwise very good job !
Thanks! I just tried it and it sounds even better :)
You keep knocking these videos out the park. Keep up the great work!
Wow, the jam sounds really cool 🔥
Excellent Raga Bhairav cover.
The one thing that I wish the syntakt had is a FX send and return for outboard effects like the distortion pedal you used at the end.
Been trying to 303 with the tal bassline 101. This has given me some ideas espescially the 32nd note lengths. Had not tried that. Must admit, the syntakt is sounding great
This is super useful! Thank you for sharing!
Awesome drum break at the end! And great tutorial, I think I'll come back to this some time later...

thank you so much for this tutorial

Hey Jorb, thank you so much :) We love your videos too!
And I love to see all my fave synth RUclips folks upping each other, great community.
Gracias! (y al final suena Charanjit)
Fast becoming my 'go to' & 'favourite' youtube synth channel. Thanks for this
raga bhairav, a true piece of history!
This is great! Lots of good tips to on how to get 303 sounding tracks.
Thanks for sharing.
Love that you made this video!

Great choice with that song at the end! The original indian acid master :)
This tutorial is excellent, explains all the steps, thank you!
oh damn, this video is so useful thank you so much bruuu 😇🙏🤟
AMAZING hearing Charanjit Singh out of a Syntakt
thank you. I played with it now.
Savage teacher! THANK U!
Wow. The video is so good! Nice work!
Hey Cap, that was epic! Just like everyone else is saying... "slick work" kudos.👍👍
Excellent video. A. 303 on the syntakt
Thanks 🙏👍👍👍
great video !
Very nicely explained, thanks! 😊 Your videos are very helpful exploring planet Elektron! I’ll absolutely have a look at your Patreon, too 👍🏻
2:46 liked this video at that second lol
we need that outro track ! crazy

Thank you, I guess :D And we hope to see you back soon on Beatbunny Airlines.
@@CaptainPikant I will buy my tickets right away, Captain! 😉
This machine can do everything
good stuff. i need to buy a SYNTAKT
Excellent video as always!!!
Side note: I noticed Scott Stroh in your special thanks. While I don't know him, I'm also a Stroh. Say hello for me! :)
That track at 5:40 is Daft Punk - Da Funk, right? ^ ^
Ofc , 2 be honest im bit surprised that not many pple noticed it in comments ;)
Thank you! 🖤🖤
Woooo, amazing
love it!
Nice work.
You did it! f*n Nice!
Last track :Charanjit SINGH from the album 10 RAGAS TO A DISCO BEAT (1982)
Love to see it
what a druum!!!! 8:47
Thank u so so so much!!!!
TEN RAGAS!?!? HELL YEAH!!!!
Daft punk is most recognisable - but that second patch was 👌
@8:48 when the box starts to shine. Have you processed the sound on a computer or how you achieved that prodigy-like distortion? Thank you❤
Yes that's done in post with Arturia's Coldfire distortion plugin :)
@@CaptainPikant thank you v much, been looking for a good vst disto for a while now, looks like I found a deal! Much love ❤️
Awesome thanks 🙏🏼
Brilliant.
DA FUNK bassline - classic! ;)
I'd love to get a tutorial of how to make a Booka Shade "Body Language" bass on Syntakt
Fantastic, as usual. Will you ever do an Analog RYTM video? I'd love to see your take on it and what you'd be able to squeze out of it.
Thanks! I had an Analog Rytm MKII once, but it died on me after a few days because of a hardware failure :( So I'm a little hesitant to get another one...
@@CaptainPikant Oh no! Sorry, that stinks. I just ordered one so no offense but I hope I have better luck!
Nice walkthrough. Considering replacing my Digitone with this. Seems like more interesting options, overall. Nice acid-tones, sir. ;)
Very very nice
Now the Digitakt II can do all of this, even the glides!
magnificent 🌱
Beautiful concise tutorial as always!

total legend🤘
Just rewatched this vid. The best explanation of how to do acid on the Syntakt out there. I have one question. Regarding distortion. When I add the distortion from the FX track it sounds really close to the distortion pedal that you used.
Thanks! :) We just used the distortion pedal you can see next to the Syntakt, none of its own distortion or overdrive.
A Boss DS-1 for the distortion would be even more authentic.
Awesome
didn't knew I needed another expensive 303 clone lmao
2:47 Subscribed.....😤
thats awesome results.. can you do this with Deluge too ?
Do you do a tutorial on the syntakt to create the Baga Bhairav line?
Or the amen break? 😳😎🤘🏼
You can find the notes to Raga Bhairav in our Donner B1 review (in the sound section with the example patterns). You can program these just like I did here with "Da Funk". And we have a video on the Amen Break pattern as well, just punch that into the Syntakt ;)
How does the lfo portamento workaround work, asking for my Analog Rytm mk2 dual vco ? Very cool video 👍
Hi Viktor, take a look at our "Best Workarounds" video, it's described in detail there :)
@@CaptainPikant will do ! Cheers 👍
Praying for a way more aggressive drive in the next firmware update. PLEASE Elektron.
Purists will disagree but that's a decent acid sound to me.
10 ragas to an amen break at the end there ;)
Woa! How did you boost everything at the end?
We used Arturia's Coldfire distortion plugin on the Syntakt's signal :)
@@CaptainPikant Thanks for replying. You guys are amazing
