Thank you guys for doing all the shopping ❤so we know ahead what to expect. I am from the Netherlands and live in Florida wanting to move in a couple of years to Madeira Island. What a lot of people don't realize is that all these prices of food are for a Kilo, (double the weight of a pound) while all the prices of food here in the US are for per. pound. Huge difference. when I lived in the Netherlands, I visited Portugal a couple of times, so I know a little bit about what to expect. It's all wonderful and delicious. Can't wait to see your next video.🐶👍
Olá Bernadette, Thanks for the continued support for our channel. Yes , 1 kilo is 2.2 pounds. I should not assume everyone will know that. A big difference indeed. Hopefully, we'll see you then 😉 Obrigado Alan and Leslie
Love the shopping videos. Anytime we are in another country I love to see what the stores offer and buy a few items. I love grocery shopping 🛒 at home and abroad.
I'm still going to have to find a good health food store over there for other items. I'm used to spending a lot of money on food. It's better than paying for medication. Madeira is not cheap. It may be affordable but I'm going to the quality of life over expecting it will be cheaper than where I live.
Olá DesertDweller, Thanks for the continued support for our channel. In the Forum shopping, there is Bioforma, a nice healthfood store. Obrigado Alan and Leslie
Talking of fresh produce, I don't know if you came across it yet, but when traveling along the Countryside, keep an eye on the drives and access to houses, you will see all sorts of vegetables, potatoes, fruits etc. for sale, directly from the farmer, pretty cheap, and if you lucky, the lady or gentleman might gift you with a glass of nice home made wine. That happen to me last time I was there on holiday, we just stopped for some cabbage and potatoes, next thing, the guy brought a bottle and a couple of glasses, we wanted to pay, he said "my pleasure, forget about it!" as it were, a day out can be very heart warming and making life worse living.
OK gang, you've got another winner on your hands! And a few comments from the Manhattan crew. First, love that you're branching out into other topics and supermarkets and groceries are a favorite. A RUclipsr OlgaPro [sic] does these for Turkey -- check them out. Camera operates a bit slower to take it in more fully. Really nice shots of Turkish Riviera. On the upside, we love your pricing charts at the end. From an NYC perspective, Madeira wins out on about 90% of all pricing. One question though, when someone orders lunchmeat at the Deli, a kilo of Ham for instance is too much, so how does one typically order it, say for three people, in grams? How many grams would you order for 6 sandwiches on average? And how does one place that order to the deli person? By now, everyone has come to love how you end your videos, with a shot of your superyacht. It's a signal that the conclusion is coming and you are wrapping up. A few of my workmates have profiled you (Alan) as "The Most Interesting Man In the World" -- referencing the actor in the beer commercials from a few years ago. They picture you dancing on the big deck of your superyacht (and who doesn't love a big deck!?) having a raucous good time. And that's when it occurred to a few of us, over these many weeks and many months, watching along with the camera as it follows Alan frolicking across the island landscape, that we have been staring at Alan's back side more than any other man in our lifetimes. Now, no offense -- it's a right, fine backside, but before I decide I need to speak to someone about my life choices, would it kill you to let the camera follow Leslie around Madeira for an episode or two? Ahh, just kidding, we all have guessed it may not be your yacht. Love your videos just the same. Cheers.
Olá Admin Desk, Thanks for the continued support for our channel 🙌 You make some good points. As to the deli ordering, I usually order a half kilo( they say quinhentos) of ham and cheese. Sorry bout my backside. Perhaps I should have Leslie be in front more. Thanks for your kind words. Obrigado Alan and Leslie
@@ItllBeFun HAHA/ OMG no apologies necessary. Keep doing what you're doing! I subscribe to approx. 1,000 channels. If they told me tomorrow I could only watch 10, yours would be among them. (And thanks for the quinhentos tip -- that's exactly what I was wondering.)
Very good video, the prices are indeed much higher in the island than in the mainland, at least where I live. Also, keep on mind that white labels (store brand names, ex:Pingo Doce, Continente, Intermarché brand) are much cheaper and there is no change in taste or quality.
Olá M Silva, Thanks for the continued support for our channel. Yes, good information. And the Continente brand coffee is probably 50% cheaper, and good. Obrigado Alan and Leslie
@@Alfablue227 The best coffee is Bellissima (cost only 0,20€ more than Continente brand but is like the best brands out there). But keep the secret. I remember one the best wine aat least the value for money from Ermelinda Freitas that 10 years ago in Pingo Doce cost a bottle about 1,20€ (they at time sell only to Pingo Doce), and now they are famous and you cant find less than 12€. The region of this one right now is one the best in the world winning medals in wine contests (Setubal Region).

Your grocery shop is quite expensive. Most of those items could be cheaper in bigger supermarkets, even more if you exchanged some brands for Madeira brands. ...oh, and most chicken and egg brands are locally produced.
Hi Alan, Leslie, and Wolfy, were wondering about financing a home...is it possible, do you know folks who have done this, any advice? Where's the meat??? Some of us don't eat tons of bread, frut and veggies due to medical conditions and it would be great to know prices of chicken, beef, pork and fish. Hopefully they have that type of food available there and affordable?
Olá Carrie, Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. Good question. We should possibly have some meat prices in the future. This video was a cost comparison of sample items to see if it is affordable here. Obrigado Alan and Leslie
