Have been to several in Lisbon, I love Feira da Ladra (Thieves Market) near the big church and the Thursday market at Carcavelos, but the Caiscais looks really good. I have to say that I absolutely love it, and am so pleased Lee talked me into buying it, much to my initial horror! 😉🤣
When we were in Lisbon, the markets were all closed due to covid, so we only saw the outside of the Feira da Ladra and the Time Out market. I'm really hoping we can make it back there some day! As always, we love hearing from you, Cindy, and really appreciate your kind comments! ~ Mandy

    Hello Lee and Mandy,
Just wanted to thank you for your whole series of RUclips videos on Portugal! My wife and I just finished up a trip to Lisbon, the Algarve, and Cascais and used some of your videos as our guide! We especially appreciated the outdoor mall eating area in Cascais with the sea view! We chose the pizza, fries, and full pour of wine for €6.40 each and found it to be a great bargain! We’re in the process of purchasing a little apartment to split time between Portugal and the States, but with an eye on frugal living to help stretch our retirement funds further! Another fantastic and useful video from Cascais. 🎉 We have a lot to see on our next visit. As others noted, the orange cardigan looks good on Mandy👍🏻. It’s my son’s favorite color. 🧡 Also appreciate the smooth feeling of wool . Sad to say I purchased a beautiful sweater in New Zealand many years ago but never wore it since I find it to be too itchy. 😢 Two questions please: 1) the market didn’t have a price for the red raspberries. When I looked at Pingo Doce in Tavira last November; they were very expensive and imported from Argentina (if my memory serves me correctly). Have you found the price of berries to vary by season? 2) you noted you go to market stalls w/prices. Is one expected to bargain at the stalls without prices? I prefer not to negotiate but was curious. 🤔 Thanks as always for your wonderful work.

    • @FrugalTravellers

Hello lucchese20, and thank you for your wonderful comment! There'll be one more Cascais town video, then Lee's Cabo da Rocha video... we hope you find them both helpful when planning your trip to this beautiful place 😃 I really didn't like the orange cardigan at first but it's now my favourite item of clothing... and I have Lee to thank for persuading me to buy it! That's such a bummer about the NZ sweater. Some wool can be so itchy but modern merino tends to be amazingly soft!
In response to your two questions:
      1. I've found berries to be more expensive in supermarkets, the same with avocados. We buy frozen mixed berries from Lidl at €2.99 for 750gr and have them for breakfast with muesli and Greek yogurt. We haven't bought fresh berries in Portugal
      2. As far as I know, there isn't anh bartering in Portugal. We always choose stalls with prices the same reason we'd never order a drink or food in any country without first checking the menu and price... because there's always the possibility that we might be overcharged. I noticed this in the Nazaré market when a seller said her lettuce were €1... we've been to enough markets here to know they should have been €0.80 at the most, and indeed were €0.70 on the sign at the very next stall! Most people wouldn't blink an eye at paying €1... but it's close attention to prices and our budget that enables us to travel the world.
I like your questions and will add them to the Q&A... apologies if I mispronounce your name 😁😃 ~ Mandy

      @lucchese20 2 года назад +1

@@FrugalTravellers Thanks Mandy for your reply and tips on saving money with berries, as well as your tip on coffee (forgot to mention that). Agree with Merino wool. I hold on to that NZ sweater because it has more sentimental than practical value. Silly me. 🤪

Hi Mandy, that orange cardigan suits you very well. Time to ditch dark winter clothes!
I have to ask, how can you guys afford not to work / move around?
Do you guys have a passive income?

Hello Sergio. Thank you for the kind comment... I was super reluctant at first but now absolutely love my orange cardigan! I do prefer to wear black tee shirts though as am always spilling stuff on myself 😁🤣
That's a great question and it's on our list for the series of Q&A videos coming soon. Keep an eye out for the first one in a month or so! 😃😁 ~ Mandy

@@SERGIO-cr6uy That's such an interesting way to look at it. I love wearing black clothes - they ground me and make me feel more my true self. My Ma still tells me I should wear more colours but I still don't feel comfortable in them! 😁🤣
I'll give you a little insight into retiring before turning 50... it's all about years of sacrifice and living like paupers, which is what we still do now 🤣 I hope you enjoy that Q&A video and the others when they come out, and we look forward to hearing your feedback! Wow wow wow. What a beautiful city! The streets look so colourful! I was born in Cuxhaven which is located in North Germany. After World War II many Southern migrants emigrated to Cuxhaven for working in fish industry. Thousands of Portuguese and Spaniards came here. They had brought theirs local architecture to Cuxhaven

I have the same phenomenom with walking up switched of escalators. The last time I was in that shopping centre, my daughter had a massive itch attack and suddenly couldn't bear her tights as they were slightly bobbly and old so I had an emergency tight buying mission. I can't remember what the outcome was, but she was very distressed by it at the time.

Oh no, poor Izzy! When was that last visit? I must admit that you inspired me to take that clip as I saw it on one of your Cardiff vlogs, and it perfectly summed up why I so often almost trip on non-moving escalators! Lee thought I could have cut that bit to make the video shorter, but as it's something that always disconcerts me, I wanted to keep it in! 😃😁 ~ Mandy

@@FrugalTravellers it’s relatable! I had comments from people about the non-working escalator phenomenon! My legs go all ridiculous on them.
