Wow! ❤️ such a beautiful post thank you. I'm glad that I was able to brighten up your day. Thanks for your support of the channel and please keep in touch. dB sends Love and Respect to you. ❤️
I first learned hand vibrato as a kid and it kind of became a habit. I switched to lip/jaw vibrato many years ago because I think it's a more natural vocal-like sound and more modern sound. But sometimes I still catch myself lapsing back to hand vibrato. To me, no matter which method I use, I think "less is more" is my preferred philosophy. I never want to get too heavy handed with the vibrato. Your flugel tone is to die for, man.
dB that was a pretty dang good impromptu "channel" of Nat Cole. I loved him AND his daughter - both supremely gifted - and tragic. I also dig the way you make that low/mid register flugel sound like a tenor trombone. Many players play it "brighter" which is cool too, but I def hear trombone as you play flugel - super-sweet. I don't know for sure, but I guess I do a sort of combination hand and back of the tongue for vibrato. But I play strictly for fun and frustration. HAH! Love these tutorials - both your serious expertise and playful persona. I'm sure you are a God-send to your students.
Peter thanks for this kind post. I love Nat King Cole he's my favorite male singer. That was a great observation about the flugelhorn. For me the darker the better. Thanks for interacting and for the support
I feel like a young Luke Skywalker studing with Master Yoda, man I love the info coming straight down the middle. P.s. I don't use vibrato that much, but when I do, I use lip vibrato. Stay swingin my friend.
Don thanks so much for interacting and for this kind post. I'm so glad that you are enjoying the channel and I have a lot more videos to come. Lip vibrato works best for me as well so we have something in common that's awesome. Keep in contact
Watched this on a cloudy day… the second you started singin’ the sun started shining in my room. The power of music!! 😂

Great to see you on the post Family. ♥️
Always been a lip vibrato guy. The hand vibrato just never really worked for me, although I always thought it looked cool 😂
😁 I definitely think both techniques are extremely musical. 💯 🎺 ❤️ to you.
