Wow. I played a trumpet years/decades ago and I have rarely heard such a good tone and control. Amazing. I am glad I stumbled across this video. Bravo.
Nice performance Tine! Reminds me of the weekly practice pieces I was taught from the Arban Trumpet book given by my trumpet teacher Mrs. Inez Sargent. I was told my a jazz musician that he could hear multiple octaves in my timber, hum! I played with the gift my Heavenly Father gave me from birth. As Tine, I too touched many peoples inner souls with my playing. May God keep and bless you Tine!! My time was long ago and it's your turn to shine Dear One!!
You mean the trumpet slightly inclined to the side? If that's it, it's because it's easier to finger the pistons straightly because if you push them down and slightly to the side, they get stuck and scratched. For me, it's easier to adjust the embrouchure, arms and fingers to play with proper posture and technique
Nobody is instructed to hold the trumpet vertically, it is always smoother at an angle to accomodate the mechanics of the fingers. That said many players have their own style to deal with that, it's kinda organic/personal in the end. But smooth valve action is aided by straight pushing with no side force.
Truly, truly outstanding. I very much enjoyed your guest appearance at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth a few years ago. I'm going to download this video and the score and learn to play it. It's truly beautiful and within my capability. Thanks for posting. PLEASE post more.
Everything about this presentation reminds me of the human potential.. Bravo to the composer. Brava to the performer. I will listen to this many more times in the coming years.
I don’t remember hearing trumpets solos very often, but my high school had a trumpet trio which played “ Trumpet Voluntary “ ( unsure of the name ) , which was beautiful.
Our concert band is playing on May 17, Norway Day in St. John's, Newfoundland, and that piece would be so amazing to match the acoustics of The Rooms. How incredible was that.
I like jazz because it plays fast and loose. Lots of room to improvise and really let your creativity shine. I LOVE classical because it's all about pure control and precision. It's amazing how two very different styles of music can still be impressive and admirable within themselves. Beautiful solo, beautiful art.
I don't understand the difference? How does pitch change how we hear it in terms of the music? My music teacher said our alto saxophones couldn't play the part of the trumpets in raiders march because it was written in the wrong key/pitch? (they sucked at it lol) - but when we played their music it sounded exactly like it should sound. What's the deal with that and what did she mean?
@@errhka instruments are "pitched" in regards to their fundamental note. A trumpet's fundamental note (lowest non-pedal note with no valves pressed down) is a Bb below middle C (on a piano), so it's called a Bb Trumpet. The sheet music is written so that the maximum range of the instrument fits on the staff better. The normal range for a trumpet is an E below middle C to Bb above the staff. Since the fundamental is a whole step below middle C, the sheet music is written one whole step higher to accommodate. In regards to an Alto Sax, it's fundamental note is four and a half steps lower than middle C, so the music is written four and a half steps higher to accommodate. If an Alto Sax and a Trumpet tried to play the same sheet music, their notes would be a minor sixth apart instead of unison.
@@ZMaine good explanation and reminds me of my time in music theory class when leaning transposing. This also caught my interest being I was both a saxophone and trumpet major. I love listening to great solos and miss the days when I use to stand and play like this myself.
Years after I quit playing I enjoy music. I was watching this performance with the music score at the bottom of the screen. I was amazed that my fingers could follow along with the correct fingering for the notes. (woodwind instruments)
Two things. 1 - I don't know the musical term for it, but those three notes at 1:06 are gorgeous. I hear them often through different instruments (a notable one is piano during Wet Hands) and it makes my heart soar everytime I hear it. 2 - 0:35, Samuel L. Jackson has entered chat.
She played it very good and with many feelings. It's the biggest thing in music, the feeling when you play. I played a Solo too. It was Aranjuez Mon Amour (normally it is a Solo for guitar). I played it with flugelhorn and trumpet. I love how she makes her trumpet telling a very good story.
Wonderful clear notes, beautiful vibrato; she got everything out of this simple but difficult piece. Some of the best trumpet music Ive heard in a long time. Thanks
I like this because it feels like a song I could actually play on trumpet (just not with as good intonation/dynamics/etc). A lot of show-off "pro" music seems a lot more like "lets throw in a lot of accidentals, constantly changing time signatures, 64th note triplet pentatonic scales, and whatever other crazy shit we can squeeze in" instead of "making music that I want to listen to.

I'm convinced Tine Thing Helseth is actually an angel descended to grace us with her tone
Wow. I played a trumpet years/decades ago and I have rarely heard such a good tone and control. Amazing. I am glad I stumbled across this video. Bravo.
She's an amazing talented soloist, she just did her last (hopefully) round of chemo. Let's prey for a speedy recovery 🙏
She has recovered, and played her first concert in seven months just recently!
this is the most beautiful trumpet solo i have ever heard. thank you.
This is matchless. I love seeing the music while listening to the best trumpet I have ever heard. Thank you and I hope to hear more from her.
As an old ex -Trumpet player, this lady absolutely nailed it! Perfection!. Loved the video with the score underneath, so you could follow. Great job !
Same here!
I absolutely love her ,,she's the best player of my favorite instrument.❤
Beautifully played. Those high C's aren't easy. You have to be pretty tight lipped, and she played it brilliantly and effortlessly.
She's played that so graciously it looked as if it were effectless to her. Amazing.
The best part of this is none of these notes are particularly difficult to hit, but the execution and tone is just flawless in every way
Her right leaning technique is kind of unique. I notice she, Helseth, has this right lean in all of her videos.
I’ve seen a fair amount of trumpets in orchestras do that, must be an ergonomics thing
@@gertnood I was Instructed way back in the 70s to hold it completely vertical.
My 6th grade music teacher was not a nice person.
Aaah Madame Tina. One of the greatest trumpet talents in classical music! Massive chop envy!
Truly, truly outstanding. I very much enjoyed your guest appearance at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth a few years ago. I'm going to download this video and the score and learn to play it. It's truly beautiful and within my capability. Thanks for posting. PLEASE post more.
I keep coming back to this. One of the most beautiful thing ever written and performed!
It is very difficult to play long lines with such beauty and musicality. WELL DONE! Thank you from Canada.
As a principal cornet player many years ago, I wish I could have played as beautifully as this ❤
Our concert band is playing on May 17, Norway Day in St. John's, Newfoundland, and that piece would be so amazing to match the acoustics of The Rooms. How incredible was that.
I love that they show the music on the screen. It lets me test my old choir/piano days of reading music.
I like jazz because it plays fast and loose. Lots of room to improvise and really let your creativity shine. I LOVE classical because it's all about pure control and precision. It's amazing how two very different styles of music can still be impressive and admirable within themselves. Beautiful solo, beautiful art.
Agreed, very well done! Perfect for the range of the trumpet, which doesn't always get the recognition the instrument deserves.
Just so you're aware, that's a C Trumpet, which plays in concert pitch, so the sheet music is effectively written for a Bb Trumpet.
Yes
@@ZMaine So when a Bb trumpet has a middle C on their sheet they actually play a Bb? Not sure if I understood that correctly, lol.
Years after I quit playing I enjoy music. I was watching this performance with the music score at the bottom of the screen. I was amazed that my fingers could follow along with the correct fingering for the notes. (woodwind instruments)
She can play! She understands the voice and it’s potential overtones in the listening ear - wonderful subtle nuances
My spidie scent tells me she was once a brass bandy going by the way she used her vibrato
now I'm feeling like a war winner, leaving the battlefield, cleaning up my bruises
This is beautiful. It might not seem as spectacular as some of the other videos here but the skill and feel that she brings is top level.
Are you talking about the 16th-slured D and C leading into the D from the end of measure 15 to 16?
I admire anybody who is a master of any Instrument to this Level.
Bravo!
Amazing! The command of that instrument is out of this world! People may not realize how hard it is to play the trumpet so perfectly.
As a freshman trumpet player in highschool that octave jump from high to middle C was quite impressive!👌
I always truggle with making them clean
Pls can you send me the fingering chart
This level of perfection brought a tear to my eyes and a warmth to my heart. Nicely done, young lass!...and, thank you
Tine is simply an extraordinary trumpet player . . . and it's a pleasure to hear her play.
Im sure many people can play it. But not everyone can like her. Her tone is amazing.
As a trumpet player this is so beautiful 😭 I love this so much ❤
Hello 👋 Rose. How are you doing? Hope you are fine
Never heard this played before, absolutely beautiful. Can't imagine it could be played any better.!
Love the tone of this instrument -- fits the music so well.
That truly is a most beautiful trumpet solo, thank you so much for playing this
Yeah... Tine is one of the greatest brass role models of our time. I'd love to see her live one day
Wonderful clear notes, beautiful vibrato; she got everything out of this simple but difficult piece. Some of the best trumpet music Ive heard in a long time. Thanks
I have listened to you for many years and absolutely love every performance. I repeat listening to them all!!
It was amazing to see "vibrato is golden"
Then hear her nail that vibrato in the perfect time
Truly amazing.
Thank you George! You can't imagine how many great pieces you made me discover and how good it feels to me!
