- In this video I explain why I think the W212 E550 is a bargain luxury sleeper car, especially the 2012+ models with the biturbo V8 when tuned.

My dad used to own a 2011 E550, and I did a bulk of my permit driving in that car. That thing was an absolute beast!
It's a shame that Mercedes quit putting V8 engines in non-AMG models. I don't like this new trend of substituting V8's for turbocharged V6 engines, and substituting V6 engines for turbocharged 4-cylinder engines.
I agree 100 percent. I have the m273 v8 in my cls550. Nothing like naturally aspirated v8 power. Ill take it over any turbo v6 or 4 cyl. It's a true beast.
drove my friends new e53 amg and my other friends old 2008 e550. The e550 felt more powerful and smooth

Will definitely keep my eyes peeled on W212 E550 4.6L turbo next, so far my 07 211 E550 has been satisfying my power appetite so far the amount of torque I get at 2800 rpm is addicting.

I may be wrong but i thought the twin turbo came on 2012 and up E550s. Prior to that it was E500 with natural aspiration
Correct. Facelift was 2014 , but the 2012 was the first year for the biturbo. I had the NA engine and was specifically looking for a bi turbo
I have a 2010 w the 5.5 twin turbo.. super nice car I put 20in black rims to match the car.. two kn cold air intake... a racing chip in it and I'm pushing close to 600..around 585

I really want a E63, but i believe a 2012-2014 E550 w the turbo V8 will be my next vehicle. For the price point, and the fact that w minor mods/tune it can be made as fast as an E63. That's probably why Mercedes stopped making it, don't want to lose E63 sales.
2013 is the old body, 2014 is the new body, so if you want a newer body E550 with the bi-turbos then....
It's hard to find one, especially a sedan.
@@philonetic321 , E550s in general are hard to find. They simply didn't make that many for the US Market. I have a feeling it was due to Mercedes not wanting to lose AMG E63 sales. They limited the V8 E classes as much as possible.
@@philonetic321, I did a national search for Mercedes E Classes for sale. It came back with only about 600 V8's, and over 6000 with V6's.
@@joshuabushyhead6986 Also EPA introduced those new regulations in 2015, Mercedes isn't the only brand which moved their larger displacements up in class or just removed them entirely. It's a shame... like we've been forced past the golden age.
There's not a single V8 with forced induction on the market today that I'll be able to afford in 6 years, much less a luxury class.

I’ve got the same 2010 E550 with AMG Sport package she’s a ~400hp beast too! Auto in Sport she starts in 1st gear and holds the gears so you’re in the high power sweet spot. All that performance and you’re still in Mercedes comfort! I’ll stick with the n/a motor and lower maintenance.

Yes that’s the good one ! You got 400 Hp I have 2010 an I love it it’s my daily ! An I have like 386HP love it but 400-420HP I would be much a happy camper lol

The E550 is faster than a W204 C63 and if you Upgrade the exhoust, it will Sound like a AMG
Nah, tune vs tune the c63 w204 is faster top end. E550 is heavy. I had a tuned awd one and ran a tuned c63 and top end the c63 came back. On a dig with 4matic its a sleeper forreal.
It depends on which W212 550 you’re talking about, the ‘12 plus cars with the 4.7l twin turbo will walk a stock W204 C63

Yea my uncle's is a s tier tuned and exhaust wide body and when it goes past 100 its starts to shake
@@nickharbachewski9698 I doubt it. A stock 2008 c63 do 0-60 3.8 seconds the e550 is 4.4
I’m interested in the W212 E350. Fun fact: The W212 E550 was in Transformers: Dark of the Moon as Autobot Que aka Wheeljack.
I run a Transformers crew that replicate cars from the movie and some actually own the cars from the movie. One of the cars that interests me is the E350. I’m doing research to know what I would get myself into far as reliability. I would love to own a Mercedes-Benz at some point in my life.
Airmatic has become quite reliable over the years. You don't see slammed W221s due to failed airmatic, like with the W220s.

Love 2007 e550... True sleeper. Will sound like a proper german muscle car when I do some exhaust upgrades. Also gonna stick some V8 badges on the rear pillars
I been debating on getting a E350 W212 model, I know the s Class looks amazing but its a crazy guzzler, this may be a saver but it looks nice simple and classy, not too loud just perfect. I’m trying to find one under $15k right now if possible
go w the e550 trust me and it doesn't waste that much more than e350, maybe 1-3 mpg less based on real world driving i have seen
I bought an E350 Mercedes Benz and I love it! I came from a Toyota too. They're just as reliable if not more...as long as you maintain these beautiful cars and don't drive them like your typical BMW Douche. Spark Plugs were a breeze to change on this V6 engine too! Compared to some transversely mounted V6 engines which require you you take a ton of parts off just to reach the back 3 cylinders by the firewall.
i was looking at a w212 E350 after selling my w211 E320, but idk i went with a w204 C350 because i dont really need alot of space.
W212 is milessssssss above the previous w211 though
Good to know. I’ve owned 3 w211 and looking to upgrade to a w212 or the c400. But I really like the w212 550 (decision decision)
I've had 2 w211s(e500 and e550) and love them both, but yes I love the w212 design even more and dream of buying a w212 e550 or e63

How much does it consume?
W211 e550 is a sleeper too.... have had a 2003 e500 and now a 07 e550 and the e550 is so fast oh my(e500 was no slouch either)
They didn't get rid of balance shaft problem in M272 and M273 engines. After 150000 km big problems start. Problems were eliminated only after introduction of M276
Great review, having a CLK550 coupe with that M273 engine and a ‘14 E550 sedan with the 4.7 twin turbo I have to say I enjoy both but there’s no replacement for displacement. The turbo engine feels and is more torque heavy but doesn’t have as much as a roar when you floor it.

Do you guys recommend to get this as a uni student in Canada? I saw a listing of a black E550 4Matic for 10,000 dollars (CAD). Im looking at using it for just the remainder of my 2-3 years at university and then sell it. Do you guys think it is reliable and I shouldnt have to pay anything except regular servicing?

Just smoked a newer Dodge Charger scat pack from a dig in my 2010 E550 with the amg sport package 2 nights ago.. the look on their face 😂😂😂
A 2010 e550 will not smoke a scatpack and am not a dodge fan

I have a 2010 and have zero issues.. I've put all new perfamnce shocks, kn cold air intake, and a chip. Thing is pushing 585hp

Yes, same engine. When they switched to the twin turbo(2012 for E class), the S550 was tuned higher, same engine

How reliable are the 2016 e550, that's more important than how fast the car can go.
S class cars have ADC, more sophisticated and more expensive to fix. It uses oil to manage suspension

My uncle has a 2014 e550 2 door
Is it reliable? I found a 2007 E550 in my area on Facebook Marketplace for $4,500, but i'm not sure if i'd be able to afford the maintanence, i have a warehouse job, i make $17 an hour, full time 40 hours.
These are great cars but 2007 M273 engines suffered from balance shaft issues I recommend 2008+ 550’s. If you’re after reliability I also recommend an M113 engine car 430/500’s.
@@maxmerc not all of them did. Only the very early 2007s. My 2007 E550 isn’t affected, and I just hit 150k miles last week. I’ve had a few small problems, but it’s been very reliable in the two years I’ve owned it. I’ve already put 25k miles on it since I bought it. Paid 8 grand for it lol
