I purchased this same stand in December of 2022. On my first field recording trip to a local park, the stand tipped over and one of the carbon fiber legs broke. When the carbon fiber leg was broken, I could see why it broke so easily. The manufacturer has a small metal rod going through a plastic ring on the leg. I pointed out this issue to the manufacturer, but I still have not received a replacement. I have switched to another model and I am much happier.
Marcel, first of all really thanks for your videos. As a rookie who just wants to capture sounds for his music I found your videos very helpful in getting a proper setup. However, because I don't like to lug around big poles/tripods I came up with a very compact and light (depending on the tripod used) setup. I use the (Andycine) VT-03 Vlogger aluminium tripod (€12) together with an Innorel ER222C carbon fiber extension pole with 10kg weight capacity (€15) and Andoer 2-in-1 mini ballhead with cold shoe mount (€13). Both the extension pole and the ballhead have rubber gaskets which do an amazing job of reducing microphonics and the relatively heavy tripod allows me to extend the pole without worrying about my Tascam X8 falling over. As you know, the Tascam is a heavy boy. It all packs up super small. Anyway, hope it brings you onto some ideas for your own setup just like you did with me. All the best.
Cool! Thank you very much for the review! I recently bought myself 2 such racks for $ 50. I chose between Manfrotto b100 and ulanzi mt49. As a result, I decided to take a new carbon rack and it seems to me that I did not lose) I record concerts and these 2 racks look very good in the frame.
Yes, it is a great alternative with almost the same performance. I use Manfrotto more often on uneven surfaces with lighting devices, and Ulanzi in this case for working with microphones. Moreover, I was the first to buy Ulanzi and only then found out about Manfrotto Nanopole))
Smooth action and easy height adjustments. Definitely agree that it would have been nicer to have a larger (3/8 or 5/8) thread at the top, but that's ok.
Hallo, vielen Dank für den Tipp. Ich habe mir diesen Ständer daraufhin bestellt und bin schon sehr gespannt auf „Klangjagd“ zu gehen damit. Sehr gute Arbeit die Ihr das macht. Vielen Dank!!
We would have already but channel six on the Zoom F6 started to fail. Instead, we bought the SD Mix Pre 10ii. We will pick up the recorder when we're in Melbourne and make the first video about it right away.
@@FreeToUseSounds We would have already but channel six on the Zoom F6 started to fail !!!! It's not very old. I'm surprise. SD's are said to be repairable and zoom's disposable. Have you this experience ?
@@FreeToUseSounds thank you very much for replying !! Do you know if it is 1/4 or 3/8 screw hole ? Do you think this is good for selfie stick ? For insta360, pocket 3 etc ?
@@nilnil8072Yes for the pocket 3 you can screw the camera direct on the top without the need for an adapter. We tried it the other day. Its also part of a video we did. No more drone :)
Ah but now I just checked the website and it says 5/8" Stud which could be the one at the bottom. I'm looking right now if I have an adapter. One second :)
Hi Jaden! I just checked, and yes, you can tighten the screws on the leg arms to help stabilize them. That should make them stand more firmly. I’d test it myself, but unfortunately, I don’t have the right tools on hand right now.
Have loved my carbon nano poles, but this looks fantastic, especially for the price. I also like t he carbon legs :D Also, according to the spec sheets for both, the Ulanzi has a decently higher weight capacity (1.5kg for the Manfrotto vs 2-5kg for the Ulanzi).
Awesome Video, thanks!!! I cannot hear clearly the name of the backpack that you demonstrate in this video. Also cannot find the link in the bio. Can you help?
@@FreeToUseSounds Would you mount an AD200 with reflector? I'm looking for something that would support an AD200 that will fold down and fit in standard carry-on luggage.
Cool. I like the way it turns into a boom pole quickly. I'd definitely consider one when I need it because it's a great price too. Anyway, hope you and Libby are well and enjoying NZ.
This is perfect for me right now, ive been looking for a field recording stand. I just got the Rode Soundfield-how do you carry yours around? Have you found a backpack or case built specifically for it? Thanks for all of the great content.
wow, I didn't know they had this out! --- I got one of their travel tripods and it's amazing, this looks fantastic, I have the Manfrotto (same you have :) ) but this is a great alternative!!!
It's definitely a more affordable alternative, but you need to be cautious with the legs. You see the part where the screw goes through? That's a weak point where it could easily break. I received an email from someone who experienced this issue.
@@FreeToUseSounds I agree about the legs I've had mine for sometime, I love and hate it at the same time. I find I have to keep a close eye on the legs as they tend to collapse and I'm forever loosening, putting back in position and tightening again. It's a pity, as aside from this issue it would have been perfect for my needs
Based on the specifications, the Ulanzi tripod should be able to support the weight of a Canon 600D. However, considering our channel is focused on audio recording and microphones rather than camera gear, I would not use a camera in combination with a light stand.
Too bad they didn’t think to make one or more of the legs to be adjustable length. There doesn’t appear to be any way to adjust for any surfaces that aren’t level.
Nice little stand. I would imagine the legs are the only weak point if you accidentally step on them. I love how you walk off screen at 3:28 to pay the star the proper respect 😂 BTW: Do you think that in the future sound designers will only accept surround recordings when it comes to ambience? Have a great time in NZ. Viele Grüße - Til.
Ta Taaa! :) To answer your question: Surround recordings may become increasingly popular for ambience and other aspects of sound design but it is unlikely that they will become the only accepted format in the future. Sound design is an art and sound designers will likely continue to use a diverse range of recording techniques to create amazing audio experiences. Mono or stereo is just as important. :)
@@FreeToUseSounds Thanks for sharing your opinion on this topic. Maybe in a few months I will invest in a Rode NT-SF1 (the affordable solution 😀). But I'm looking forward to your first recording with the DPA. 👍

Hi. Do you have a video update on how the Ulanzi stand is holding up? Would you recommend it still?

i wonder will it stand using Camera + speedlite 😅
Great stand, for microphones, Audio recorders and Camera as well. looks strong and flexible.
How its been holding up?
Impressive... On the Ulanzi website it says it can support up to 3kg. Would you say that's true?
Hi! We personally wouldn't put anything that is 3 kg on the top of this pole.
Thanks! As a side note K&F Concept 74 is the most versatile tripod as to me, great quality and very affordable as well.
But over 2kg is to heavy for me. It still seems like a great solution for A-B setup recordings.
