Yay, shout out, thanks James. It's been a pleasure to watch and comment on your video's. It warms my heart that you have gone from a reseller on the side to a full time sole income seller. Thanks Sarah I thought you deserve a shout for a your commitment to the comment section! Definitely some twitchy fingers 😂 but all good, got 15 pairs yesterday, so all cured now 😂 Have a great 2025!
Just discovered your channel and enjoying your videos. Very informative and interesting and you don’t drag on talking waffle. Great work and wishing you a fruitful 2025 ☺️
Mate, i was talking about this the other day, the whole process these days is so much better/easier than even 3or4 years ago when you used to have to account for everything after the sales, paying fees monthly, even if you go back a bit further having to pay postage at the post office, no easy evri drop offs etc. People dont appreciate enough how easy it is these days.
People need to realise that its not all about revenue its the actual profit...so £62k less fees £11k = £51k then 20% corporation tax to pay = roughly £40k profit, then you have dividends tax of 8% which would leave you with £37k in your pocket. This is not included salary or expenses
This sounds like you assume I’m a LTD company, which I am not. This video was just showing how much fees you pay on 62k turnover. I didn’t and probably won’t touch on profits.
Great video James and congratulations on a great year. Love watching your car boot and Vinted snipes and hope to see more informative videos throughout 2025. HNY

If you are a business seller @Better_Than_CeX then yes all of them are claimible expenses. Thats basic stuff you should know if your running a business.
Your shipping fees will add a fair chunk to that as well. I buy all my shipping labels on Ebay and final fees work out just over 25%. Only have 2 or 3 promoted multi-buy listings @2%. Going to be interesting to see what changes Ebay makes this year because there's far too many people buying to make a profit as private sellers and avoiding all the fees.
Add the cost of goods and the income tax due payable and the income is roughly one-third of gross sales. If VAT threshold of £90K is likely, then it might be an idea to register for VAT now (you don't have to wait until it hits 90K) and then you can claim VAT back on packing goods and other business expenses.
If you are looking at increasing listing's and therefore turn over be aware of the VAT threshold. It's something you probably want to stay under. As a former bookkeeper I've seen many a small business turn from profitable to struggling when they hit it. And a RUclips finance video would be really interesting :). Shock horror....from a finance background I find it fascinating 😆 🤣 😂 😹
@@chrisjohnson1516 I agree. I sell similar stuff to James and hit VAT threshold back in 2017 - very unpleasant! Soon got used to it but does make you evaluate how you want to go forward with your business. I only sell new stuff and just buy from VAT reg'd suppliers so I can claim back VAT. In James' situation I'd definitely look to stay below the (now higher) threshold, but if he did want to really grow the business and go over the threshold then flat rate definitely best way to go and not too hard to absorb once you're getting into bigger turnover numbers.
I’d like to ask a question about storage in your garage? Do you have temperature control to stop damp, mould or smell effecting your items? I don’t have a garage but wonder if a shed could work?
great video as allways very nice profits :) congrats. watching your videos got me into flipping from boot sales and vinted > ebay its going well any tips of getting ebay sales or better prices i got my shop up and running but i dont get many sales and i get no where near the money u get for trainers :( any tips. keep up the good work and videos
Great video and interesting to see the breakdown of turnover and margins. Out of interest where does the 2.4% figure come from on promoted listings, is it based on anything or just gut feelings?
Please do correct me if I’ve got this wrong. I’m interested in the potentials of a business like this, I’ve commented before. I struggle to get any real answer from resellers though. So you’ve turned over £62k. Thats your sales, I get that. So from that, obviously be a profit on what the items cost you, minus the eBay fees, tax, etc. so with whatever is left, I believe you take your salary from that to pay the bills, enjoy life etc. For example, items may have cost you £15k, and made £45k profit. Pay tax on the profit, maybe 19%, minus eBay fees (£11k). Leaves circa £28k for bills, life etc? Just trying to get an idea of what a reselling business turning over £62k brings in. Thanks 👍
Before I list any item I always check the recent solds and just price accordingly. If the item condition and price is good enough, you don’t need to promote high - it’s just giving money away. I still believe it helps to promote, which is why I do just above the lowest possible of 2%. But honestly it really comes down to having good pics, and the items which people really want, at a good price. I know people doing just as much as me that don’t promote at all.
