I would try to sell a lot of those duplicate books as ‘book club bundles’. Book clubs might be looking for 5-10 of the same book for a good price especially for those popular fiction titles. It might not work but it’s worth a try.
Am I book seller no, will I become a bookseller no but do I love your videos yes. I thinks it’s the organisation part of it that makes me wanna organise my house more 😂. Don’t know if that’s strange but it gives me the push to do it especially since I’ve seen you move to this new warehouse it’s making me push to do lots of cleaning, sorting and even wanting to redecorate lol
@ I definitely stayed for her personality where as with someone else I’m sure I would of maybe watch a couple of videos and that would of given me the motivation to get organised and then I wouldn’t of kept watching. I do find it fascinating though the inner workings of different business and processes they use
@@karmenmrak I'm a Virgo too...and do the same, sometimes I get a little bossy- buy when a Virgo has Good Advice, well it's kinda hard to shut them up, right?
You and Tom already have a plan for Discarded books. While sorting this week you should immediately place those books on a pallet or begin filling up a discard bin. Then Tom can pick them up with his Forklift. Don't put them on a Table or Trolly, you have way too much work to do than handling books 3-4 times. Looks like you have two empty pallets now for discards. I'm happy to see you smiling today!
The really damaged books would work well in junk journal groups. A lot of us buy books to take apart and use and we always look for very damaged ones. Maybe listing them as 'for craft' books you could sell the worst in bundles. We also look for old , aged, yellow papers.
@@backfromburnout both. We like plain text books with old yellowed pages and we also like pictures if they are illustrated, etc. So lots of old gardening books, vintage, childrens books, picture books etc. Old photography too. Junk journalling is all about reusing the old, broken or junk.
Mel that book in the middle of the table 'order in chaos' made me chuckle, kinda sums up everything you've been going through. I think you should keep that one on display! ❤
Fun fact: John Grisham is from area about 30ish miles from my town in Arkansas. His family still has farming interest there. "The Painted House" was mostly filmed in this area. His locations and characters are very accurate to what you would see or hear in his books. Several books & movie " The Firm " taking place in Memphis Tn, is an hour away. Those referencing towns in Mississippi, where he mainly grew up, are just outside Memphis. All in my area.
Sorting big groups into bundles and staging on shelves. Here in the US office supply stores sell magnetic backed plastic sleeves about the size of business cards, that you can slip a piece of paper into and stick to the shelf crossbars. If you wrote the author’s name or subject large enough to see from your sorting area, it might help organize the shelves so you can add to the bundles with less searching. The magnetic backers let you rearrange the piles faster and the names and subjects are fast to change since the are written on paper or card stock which sharpie pens.
I recently packed up 60 + boxes of books from my fathers house and it was a killer just packing them... Then moving them, then sorting them omg. Donated about 45, some to keep and the rest to sell, and some are literally 300 years old, nothing simple about listing and pricing those ones 😂 what a mission.... And this is nothing compared to what you do for a living 😂
My suggestion, which may already be your plan, is mostly be a warehouse hermit and work like a beaver - sort, discard, bundle (or not), shelve, list, pick and pack and ship - until those cages disappear. It seems to me like you have weeks, if not months, of work ahead of you. I fear you may have a storage crisis on your hands as those cages get unloaded. The good news is that all this inventory might fuel your business and meet your sales goals for many months to come. I'm interested to see how this all unfolds. Next up: Mel builds a pyramid!
Hi Mel! I wonder if you have any women's or men's shelters, halfway houses, etc in your area that might be interested in having some of your discarded books donated? Some people who don't have a lot and are trying to put their lives back together or get out of bad situations might appreciate having a good book to read. Also, I've always appreciated vacation homes that have a good selection of books to read during quite moments, or while on the beach or by the pool. I like your videos a lot and really admire your work ethic and dedication to what you do. You're doing great -- I am rooting for you and continued success. It's fun to watch you and Thom together, too...
I’m fascinated to see your final thoughts on the pallets. Yes they are really cheap per book, but they are time consuming (which is offset by not having to go out and source) and there are a lot of books that you wouldn’t normally pick to buy if you were out in the wild. Hopefully there are a few pallets of sci-fi and fantasy.
Hi Mel! 👋 First of all, I admire your perseverance & dedication to your business. I’d like to make a time-saving suggestion…when you empty the cages to make piles before you sort, wouldn’t it make sense to have the spines facing outward? It would be easier to pick if the titles are facing you.
love your videos, been catching up on the moving ones. awesome ! you are like an adrenalin bunny on "something".... har har. good you're smiling cause you've got the next few days off. GOOD ON YOU!! PS: been making lots of notes on your tips. thanks indeed!
Great video! Sorting books no matter where they come from is very time consuming. but is always worth it when you end up with a really good bundle. 😊❤🐕
I don't know what type of spell you cast, but i just can't stop watching your old videos. ❤ Thank you for keeping me motivated while i try to start my own handmade and secondhand shop. I start thinking about selling something on ebay too within the EU...
A genre that I know that makes a lot of money is Romance books. If you want a starting point (or maybe this is a niche you just haven't explored) I would go on online buy sell groups for romance books or book boxes. Some romance books that are out of print and/or special editions go for crazy high prices.
If you have some that even thrift stores won't take and you don't want to chuck them in the bin, you could contact prisons or jails. In USA I've seen jails making the rounds a book sakes with large laundry cart bins buying to restock the library. They may not buy them from you but if you tell them you are a reseller and have stick going spare they make take them off your hands.

Mel enjoy your videos! You deserve every single tear you have shared with us. You have worked so very hard to make this happen. I loved watching Tom’s helpers unload the cage in minutes and you were able to breathe. I was just wondering if you could share the books you can’t sell to shelter places or places where teenagers could use them or prisons that would care what the pages were like I just wanted to share with you. Keep on doing what you do best hopefully you can get the cages emptied out in a hurry so Tom can have them back. Will your daughter help you out unloading them and sorting them maybe even a friend you could bribe them with a few dollars or gift cards for food. Teen people love to eat😂
Mel- watch every video. Live in Tennessee - wanted to share couple of tips: Jeffery Archer is one of those authors whose early books are FANTASTIC: Not a Penny More Not a Penny Less; about his first 4 or 5 are some of the best books I have EVER read! Later ones, well. I have read them all (short story books are good) but nothing compares to early ones. Also, if you have author Fannie Flagg (Redbird Christmas, Fried Green Tomatoes) great fiction. Keep those videos coming!
Not a Penny More, is one of my favorite books that I have read multiple times. Subsequent books I have read by him are not nearly as good. Should you get that one Mel, I think you should list it solo.
In the US we get a tax write off for donations to charity. If you donate low end books, can you write them off as a business loss and take a write off for donating them?
I love your videos! I would love to have a business like yours! I love books and if I had the space to do that I would. I sell clothes and smaller items that I can store at my home but if I could I would love to have a warehouse full of books!
You probably already do this Mel, but what about donating the unwanted books to the Lifeline Book Fairs? They would take most anything I would imagine. I'm not sure how close Goulburn is to the Lifeline donation centres, but maybe at the times you already head to the book fairs you could bring a load of them along with you? Lifeline discards many, many books and they can be quite judicious, depending on who is on roster at the time. If Mel thinks they are not good sellers, then Lifeline will also think that.
Loved this video of how you sort and bundle these! I don’t even sell books except ones of my own when I’m done reading them but this was so nice to watch! Are you going to film the sorting of all the other cages too? 😍
I know this is WEEKS in the past but I'm going to be interested to see how you work with your bottle necks that you are creating by doing the sorting before you do the stock take. Your bench for photography is almost full and you can't list new until you get your stock take done because that would be just useless. IDK if you have to turn your store back on to actually do the stock take if you put everything to zero. IDK how "inventory" works since I don't use that feature. Looking forward to seeing how you handle this in the next couple weeks. Hope it all works out!
Yes I’ll explain the stocktake soon. The photo bench fills like that and then I do batch photo sessions and clear it to start again. I enjoy doing photos like that. I turn a long podcast on and get into a good photo rhythm
@@backfromburnout I was under my wrong account above but it's still me. Yes, I understand your photo process. This may give some organization ideas for my own stash!( Mostly SF?Fantasy fiction US/ British/ Irish History and film/ comic s -related Histories!) Sorry that your knees are still an issue....! Maybe the maassage person can suggest something for it?
Yes! Just started the video and I can’t wait Mel! This is what I’ve been waiting for! Love this, can’t wait to see more bundling and putting away and sorting! It’s so satisfying to see the piles go down! You’re a powerhouse and I am cheering you on! I wish I could come and help! I don’t know if you have something like this in Australia, but we have buy nothing FB groups. Basically you post items you don’t want and people come to pick up. Very minimal effort. If you’re looking to get rid of items without them going to the landfill.
All of the books you have that are exactly the same book, as bundled, as books for a reading club that everyone wants the same book when they are reading the same title in their group.😊. Idk just a thought 🤔😅. Have a great day off!!!❤❤❤ I hope l said that right🤪😂🙄🙃🙃😁
Mel, why don’t you employ someone part-time to work with you? My wife and I keep asking the same question, so thought I’d put it to you. You’re doing amazing, we love your videos👍
Do you just buy bulk bins at an auction? Lots of sorting. I need to sort and organize my craft supplies so I can be more productive. I need your energy and stamina. I’m new to this channel but I’ve really enjoyed watching.
I always wondered if you read some of the books you've listed or if you're a reader in your spare time. Are there any self help books you recommend or liked more over others? Just curious. I've read a few myself. Im just always curious what people read. It's like my favorite thing to either learn what people are reading or get people to start reading😂
Occasionally some romance books are written by the males perspective. Even 50 shades of grey has follow up books that are his side of the story. Many books also switch from the male to the female within chapters.
@ Thats interesting and an education for me Mel, maybe there’s a possible gap in the market there for me to start writing, although I must admit I’m not exactly one of the last romantics. Keep up the good work, love your vlogs. Regards Casanova.
When we triple quadruple move inventory it takes time. I like your process. To save a little more time do you have enough room to keep a pallet to put books that you want to discard. That way you don’t have to move it 2-3 more times. Just a suggestion. Shrink wrap then sell to your supplier. 🤔
Would you happen to sell any books on how an old man can get a younger women without spending tons of money? If you know of any titles like that drop me a line. Thanks

Have a great day off!!!❤❤❤ I hope l said that right🤪😂🙄🙃🙃😁
What a task Mel 😮 I don’t envy you 😅 👍
Have a warehouse sale for the books you don't want. Sell them super cheap to move out.
Hi Mel, I love your videos! Thank you. Just wondering if your rejects that are in multiples can be used for book clubs.
Mel what made you get into book reselling and what did u do before
So glad to see you're feeling stronger!❤ Have you always loved books?? So have I....🎉🎉🎉
I donated all my books. Couldnt sell....Happy New Year! I feel free unloading dead items......
If they aren’t selling it’s good to clear space for fresh items
Some of the ones I deem unsellable end up in my back yard fire pit.
What a monumental task. That would take me years.
I love the video!...i reconize some of the authors love Danille steel an Janet Evocowith ( however you spell her last name)
Put your bike in the office room and a recliner in case you want to have a break
I think I’d feel to closed in and hot on the bike in the office.
I always wondered if you read some of the books you've listed or if you're a reader in your spare time. Are there any self help books you recommend or liked more over others? Just curious. I've read a few myself. Im just always curious what people read. It's like my favorite thing to either learn what people are reading or get people to start reading😂
do look for signed books initially or is that the last thing you look for?
Only when I photograph them I will look for that.
Do “Men’s Romance” books exist Mel, is that a thing? 😂
If they are suitable, we sometimes donate to Juvenile improvement programs so they have something to do.
Wow, what a machine you are! What seemed to me a job that would take days took you hours.
Are these all for eBay? Wow!
Yes. eBay :)
I don't know if you have the number of prisons we have in America but I would think that may be a good place to donate books?
One local prison near me but not sure how many they would take. Worth enquiring though.
When we triple quadruple move inventory it takes time. I like your process. To save a little more time do you have enough room to keep a pallet to put books that you want to discard. That way you don’t have to move it 2-3 more times. Just a suggestion. Shrink wrap then sell to your supplier. 🤔
also try selling on Gumtree
Yes that’s a good idea. I can crosslist there
One day you don't have time for making videos for YT. It will be selliing books on E-bay. I hope i am wrong, love your videos!
Don’t forget the FORKLIFT needs space.
Would you happen to sell any books on how an old man can get a younger women without spending tons of money? If you know of any titles like that drop me a line. Thanks
I have tons of books 📚
Woot!
@ where are you located?
Is Terry Pratchett popular in Australia? I notice you never seem to have his titles in hauls.
