I agree, I haven't ordered anything for about a week before xmas as I doubt if it will arrive (at all, in some cases) I wait until the new year now, once everything gets back to normal
I've been selling on Ebay for nearly 25 years and it has never ever been so slow in the run up to Christmas 🙇 I really think it is the algorithm making my listings invisible 🤔
Or too expensive more you guys do it the prices have gone up hence charity shops too but yeah eBay doesn’t help as you can’t see listings even if you type the words the same just misses it off completely but hope it improves for you guys after Xmas etc
I personally hate using eBay now , you look at an item and then days later get email after email with offers etc , you rarely get anyone pay full price , eBay are always on the buyers side ,
I get how you feel, George. I'm also a reseller. I have definitely noticed a decline in sales over the last week or so. The start of December was great, but around the same time as you, I had a decline in sales.
It’s ok to sell clothes and trainers too - you have to pay bills at the end of the day and diversify into what’s working. It’s good to sell a mixture to keep cash coming in. Many people are starting to sell clothes now so your videos are informative across the board. Thanks George ❣️
No need to panic, you've answered your own question in this video. This year your focus has been on clothing which means your previous Christmas periods were more focused on other items. People will happily by used clothes for themselves but not so much for Christmas gifts. Retail is slower this December in high street stores too - even supermarkets have seen consumer spending change this Christmas. Adapt and grow... use your savings as security for weak weeks (suggested to have 6-12 months of living costs saved up to cover work/life/health issues that crop up). You're doing fine, no need to panic...
Never really bothers me to much as I resell part time for fun and to pay off my mortgage quicker but I can imagine it’s terrifying if this is your sole income. Merry Christmas all
It seems to me that the reason is because christmas falls on a Wednesday this year and ebay have been telling g people your items wkll arrive after Christmas since Monday last week! Noticed it especially as the website got more traffic following that.
Same here, eBay has been absolutely rubbish. Month on month no matter what i do sales are down. The economy is shafted, recession next year so get prepared.
I appreciate this video because other uk resellers act like ebay is booming. Ive been on and off reselling for decades and ebay feels completely different. Even with promoted listings the products dont move
Yeah it’s down to the free listings, many people now listing items and flooding eBay listings, eBay is now all over the place, good to see you being honestly George, I do also think unless it’s a real rare item many are just buying new with a warranty!!
It's due to GSPR for the most part. 11th Dec is when his sales dropped off and the change went live around then (13th), but you're probably right on that too.
Agreed. I think its a combination of factors: People aren't as flush with cash, they also don't want to risk the Christmas post but a big chunk is the businesses posing as private sellers undercutting the genuine sellers by quite a margin. Buyers will generally buy from them if they have the same item 5 or 10 quid cheaper.
@Dan-78 I think Ebay has reduced the scarcity of items across most categories. As you say, all categories are now flooded with items, so there's no rush on most things for buyers, and they can be more selective. The things that historically perform well continue, but taking punts or selling unknown quantities is now a bad idea. It was slow pre-Christmas and most sellers were sending offers on items across the board but still only taking off £1 or so which isn't going to shift stuff when there's so much choice. When you had to wait for 50% fees, not all sellers got that deal so items were staggered. Now the same item is on 10x and not shifting for anyone esp funny to see on things people had labelled as rare.
thats why i stay away from big bulky items the cost for packaging and time involved to pack for the same profit as 2 t-shirts, unless you are making 30 or 40 quid profit then maybe worth it but you also have to take in to consideration size and storage for large items where i can store 20 shirts in a medium box.
The whole of December this year has been really slow for me. Usually its manic upto Christmas. But this year i now have twice as much listed as normal as nothings been selling. It will all go. Always does in the end. But its very strange that December has been so bad.
Yes, it's been odd. I tend to think of Dec as like half a month, which fortunately for me it has and already passed my own target but sales just fell off the proverbial by the 15th. I had my best ever Oct and Nov so spent a good bit of capital on goods - it'll all sell but I was half expecting much of it to have sold for xmas, be around only 2/5 has sold approx. Like I say, it'll all sell but it's been odd that many of the items I have sold this month weren't exactly what you'd buy as xmas pressies.
As much as a great job you do, most resellers do the same thing and post it for all to see which is great for us to watch but it surely brings competition which unless you’re on top it means you’ll be losing out somewhere, charity shops are now well aware about selling online and they can always undercut because there items don’t owe them anything.
I think it has a lot to do with the recent autumn budget. The government want to take any “spare” money we have. Everyone feels poorer even though most changes haven’t even happened yet. Socialism = everyone gets poorer.
I'm pro vinted I look at vinted as monthly pay I moved away from Ebay it's not what it was in my opinion newer selling platforms are performing so much better have a good Christmas
Its odd, I used to sell roughly one painting every 8 days, currently ive sold nothing but one glass fruit bowl for £10. In December Ive had amazing sales but nothing recently
Give it a couple days George, loads of people get money for Christmas and it's burning a hole in their pocket before they've even had time to digest their Yorkshire puddings. Round about the time I'll be sending the offers out haha
It's not just second hand resellers. My online shop dies at this time of year. And, weirdly, during the summer school holidays. I've never understood why that time of year is bad. Christmas is self-explanatory. I just take the time off.
Because listings are free for everyone now it’s bought in a hell of a lot more people which means more competition. You need to promote everything to stand out so really it’s not free to list. Bit misleading but at least you have control with promos with how much you want the fees to be.
Interestingly though, a lot of non business clothing sellers are getting very fed up with Vinted and trying EBay out, even if they hadn’t previously used EBay so maybe the balance will tip back to EBay again in 2025.
@@creightonjason I don't understand the need to be sky high. They get everything for free and don't sell the sky high stuff and months later you see the same things for the same price 🥴
