I’m screwed. I suffer from dizziness since young age whenever I spin around or roll like this. I just started BJJ few weeks ago. It took just one of these rolls to mess me up for two days. Damn!

I am similar. For me, it is vertigo (or menier's disease).

Honestly u shouldn’t worry. when rolling u don’t have to do a front roll or a back roll it’s just taught Incase u wanted to do it.

I suffered with that for more than a decade, couldn't tumble or even do flat bench press. Finally figured out that it was the soy in my protein powder (the only source of soy in my diet). Cut out the protein powder (soy) and the vertigo disappeared. I started jiu-jitsu the next week!

Funnily enough the second mistake is actually a method for one japanese judoka (or probably more likely a school) to get into osaekomi from prying open a turtle. There's always someone doing the exceptions. If you can consider that back roll exception at all. When you said backwards somersault was maybe a thing as a kid, I realized at my early 20's I could still do it without much consideration, but just last week my back roll turned into that and it felt like smashing your back of the head on the wall. Lesson learned, you're an old man now.

Great advice! My recommendation to those still having trouble with this is to try to round out your body until the roll is completely done. Staying circular really helps make it a lot more fluid. Also, try to relax and don't tense up when you're practicing.

Big problem with momentum over technique... Once you are gone, if you weren't well placed, you will roll over your neck... Rookie mistake I made yesterday !! Not fun at all and am glad I am still "flexible", didn't hurt myself too bad there but scared the s*** out of me, hearing all those cracks. :/
Thank you very much for this video ! Our teacher went very fast over the rolls and I needed to hear the "make it slow and technical" version ! :P

Always a great video! When you tilt your head to one side, should the opposite side arm be out straight to the side or does it matter? I just notice a lot on the back roll that people often stick that arm out straight

Had an accident today. I grabbed a guillotine from kinda standing, and then starting to sit down into guard, but my spazzy white belt opponent rolled forward, and I rolled straight back over my neck and heard crack, crack, crack. I ended up in mount with the guillotine, but I am so annoyed that I didn't tuck and move my head to the side because I was so supprised and it happened so fast, and now my neck and back hurt.
