  • Bourrée I and II from English Suite No. 2 in A Minor, BWV 807 by J.S. Bach
    0:00 Bourrée I
    2:13 Bourrée II
The English Suites, composed sometime between 1710 and 1720, are the earliest of three sets of Suites (the others being the French Suites and Partitas). The title “English” has no connection to the style of the Suites, which is a combination of German, French, and Italian elements. According to Forkel, Bach’s first biographer, they were possibly dedicated to an English aristocrat whose name is not given. Along with the traditional dance movements of Allemande, Courante, Sarabande and Gigue, Bach notably starts each English Suite with an extensive Prelude.
