Dorico 5.1.60 update announcement

- We’re pleased to announce the availability of a new maintenance update for Dorico Pro 5, Dorico Elements 5, Dorico SE, and Dorico for iPad, bringing them to version 5.1.60. This update introduces official support for macOS 15 Sequoia, restoring support for Quick Look in the Finder, fixes nearly 50 bugs, introduces performance improvements for large projects that use condensing, and has a few other little treats in store.
In light of the many new Dorico users who have come from Finale, we have introduced some new commands in Dorico 5.1.60 that will allow Speedy Entry aficionados to set things up such that the shadow note can be moved with the up/down arrow keys alone.

Dorico has been an AMAZING upgrade from Finale. Thank you Dorico team for making such a great tool!
If Finale never went out of business I might not have ever tried Dorico. Mainly because I have thousands of Finale arrangements that I have done in the past 30 years. Now that I have seen how much effort has gone into making Dorico I love it. I have been using it nonstop since I purchased it a few weeks ago. The more I learn about it, the more I love it. Thank you for all of the videos you and John have made. They are extremely helpful. I think I have watched all of them. Some many times. I pick up something new everytime I watch them.
Looking forward to using Dorico for many years to come. Thank you to you and your programmers for creating an amazing program. Please give yourselves a raise whenever possible. 😊 You do outstanding work!

I switched to Dorico 5 in August, 2024 after 25 years of using Finale. It has been an amazing experience. Sure, there’s a learning curve, but the tutorials have been helpful. It is truly the best notation software. Many have commented how nice my charts look. Thank you Steinberg and Dorico engineers!

This is JUST what I was hoping for! I'd been using finale since the early 90's. It seems you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! Thank you so much for this addition in development. I will forever love Finale, but I am happier every day with Dorico.

By following this procedure and creating my own custom keyboard setup in Stream Deck and Notation Express, I am now working exactly the same as when inputting notes in Finale. This setup has significantly streamlined my workflow, allowing me to input notes more efficiently and with greater ease.
So delighted Quick Look has been reimplemented
I like the new key commands! This upgrade is much more significant the these key commands: The number of bug fixes is substantial.
I'm so glad you mentioned that you can set those preferences for accidentals, etc. to be added after input. I didn't know about that and changed the setting as soon as I could.

Woo hoo! Thank you! Just switched to Dorico from Finale and am impressed so far. This will help make the transition even easier. I've been using Cubase for 20 years so it's cool to see some of the integration in Dorico.
Another step could be to add the metatools as well as the palette of most used articulations for quick input from the keyboard by pressing a single key, without conflicting with the program's shortcuts.

I have Dorico installed on two different laptops (both on Windows) and on both Dorico is super sluggish, unstable and unpredictable. It's by all means the slowest of all music editing programs I have (compared to Finale, Sibelius & MuseScore). Thanks for the update, though.
How old are the laptops?
@@LeeBlaskeOne is brand new and top-spec, the other one is an older ultrabook, on which Dorico is barely working. Finale runs smoothly on both, though.
Thank you for the update. It has been a nightmare to adapt to the carrot.
Please add a clean and simple option to write Swing or Shuffle at the begining of a piece
For playback of swing use the Shift-T popover, start typing swing and choose one of the options
And… you can also remap the numeric keypad so that 5 once again equals a quarter note! What I am waiting for is custom rehearsal marks next.
Care to share the basics on how that is accomplished?

Hi, thank you so much for this update!!!:) but i have something to ask, regarding transposing instrument ( clarinet in Bb or Sax Alto for example) if i insert notes in transpose modality ( for example a score in c major, the program don't make the right pitch, for example if i insert a F, it don't insert F#, and i always have to correct it because it insert F natural by default..... i remember that in Finale program it insert directly the right note ( for example an F# ) any suggestion? is a little but frustrated :(

No, you can do the same on Windows too.
Dorico is great but what I miss from Finale is : in midi input giving in the tempo on a key of your choise, so you slow down or speed up when you play the notes in (Hyperscribe in Finale)
We'll consider it, although when we had a similar system at another software company many people turned that off. You can temporarily turn off the tempo of your piece to e.g record at a slower tempo if that would be useful - click on the blue metronome note in the top right corner.
When Cubase only upgrades Version and the minor bug is not fixed for over five years (it's on my RUclips channel) Given all this comprehensive picture, the owner, shareholders, and directors of Yamaha, Steinberg must be aware of who is the real developer and passionate. A system like Chord Style created by Yamaha. I remember when Sibelius' reputation collapsed in 2006. I sincerely hope that Yamaha, Steinberg will not repeat Avid's mistakes.
I do find getting assistance to be a more difficult problem in Dorico. Your times available are very narrow, and those of us on the west coast have a greater problem with them.
I have been using Finale all my life. I tried Dorico! found very confusing and impossible to find even the basic commands. Some other composers tried , if not used to Cube Base, which I am not, Dorico is impossible to work with.
I felt completely lost from the very first basic note. Single 4 bars melody just using quarters notes.
Can you pls make note inputting through virtual keyboard as it is record initiated as now it doesn't input note but they get stuck in what ever keys are pressed
Does this fix the bug with the downloader not working on OSX, cause outdated JavaFX derivate you use?
Does anyone know if there’s a way to make rests behave the same as they did in Finale Speedy where you could see them as you input?
I may be wrong, but perhaps with the "force duration" set to ON?
OK, I'll reach out. I had Dorico Pro 5 on my machine, but I got up one day and discovered that it wasn't there anymore. I went through the standard steps of trying to contact someone at Steinberg, trying to re-download it, etc., but to no avail. I was told I was trying to install an upgrade to a product I'd already purchased (or something like that). Anyway, I've not been able to recover Dorico Pro 5, and I've been forced to use Dorico SE 5. Do you know anyone who can help me? I suspect that Pro 5 was deleted by the Application Installer because it thought (mistakenly) that I had pirated it.
If you really want an answer from the Dorico team, I suggest you try the Steinberg User Forums (Dorico Section). It would be hit and miss if anyone sees your problem here.
I love Dorico, but Steinberg seems to have the same corporate disease that Adobe, AVID, Microsoft, and OpenText have, which is to have an Application Manager getting in the way of me getting my job done, all in the name of protecting me (and mainly themselves) from software piracy.
Contact the Dorico team on the Steinberg/Dorico forum - they will be able to help you get back on track quickly.
It's possible those guys are brokers (Application Somebody ?). It reminds me of Sibelius, which was sold to Avid in 2006
