    There was this hyperactive kid in my old neighborhood when I was a kid. He was so fun in the arcades because he'd throw a big tantrum, start cussing so much they'd kick him out of the arcade. Dragons Lair was probably the one that drove him the most crazy.

    Love the cocky laugh he gets when turned into Space Ace. Boy did I play this game, it was another reason to waste my week salary after spending the better part of a year figuring Dragons Lair out. Some time after I finally slayed the dragon this Space Ace machine appeared at my local arcade, guess the owner tough it was better business to introduce a new challenge for the teens. Remember he turned the speaker volume up real loud so that we could all hear the promo scenes. I was all over it like a bee! Hehe. Needless to say I rounded this game as well, making me quite popular amongst fellow gamers. And probably an annoying little critter too. Mastering both Dragons Lair and Space Age carried some serious weight back then.

    well, they were running 12-15 hours a day...and in the attract mode, the players were constantly running...even if no one was playing it. Spinning motors and moving laser heads---and early 80's electronics were not a good match! In a private home, they tend to run much longer!

    Nice, I remember playing this quite a lot in the arcades. Watching a crowd build up around me when fighting Borf was always a bit nerve racking. I used to live 2 doors down from Dan who did the voice for Dirk the daring in dragons lair. Used to go over there alot as I was good friends with his younger brother. I remember him giving me a dragons lair flip book and space ace poster signed by Don Bluth. Awesome times! Just grabbed the space ace dedicated cabinet of space ace from new wave toys. What a beauty! Not sure I remember the red trim back then on the conversion kit space ace cab. Did you add that? Great video by the way!

      Thanks for commenting. When actually comparing them now, the laser disc image on a new lcd monitor is not as clear as a dvd or blue ray for sure. But at the time, it was the best way to enjoy movies and certainly presented wonderful images on an arcade game in 1983. The digital replacement versions for Dragons Lair are faster and smoother responding too. I still have my laser disc player at my home though, and a few discs remain

    The player in this machine is the Pioneer LD-V1000.
    It's a very reliable commercial-grade player with a HeNe gas tube laser.
    It's also unique in that, aside from the REJECT/OPEN and POWER controls, there's no way to operate the player without connecting it to a host computer.

    • @tntamusements
      @tntamusements  5 лет назад

      thats correct...but fine for this application!

    • @Watcher3223
      @Watcher3223 5 лет назад

      It's not merely fine for the application, it's made for it. The host computer, in this case, would be the arcade board running the game.
      Now what would be really wild, if you can find one that works and is in good shape, is a Bally/Midway NFL Football game, which used an RCA SJT-400 or SKT-400 random access capable CED videodisc player as opposed to a LaserDisc player.

    • @tntamusements
      @tntamusements  5 лет назад

      SO few were made and I would think 98% of them were converted to other games and the guts long gone! :-(

    • @Watcher3223
      @Watcher3223 5 лет назад

      Yeah, there were only a handful machines made. There are very few surviving examples (at least a couple of videos on RUclips of such machines exist).
      It wasn't long after RCA made the 400 series random access players that RCA terminated CED player production altogether owing to the commercial failure of their own videodisc format, which would be one of the reasons why the game wasn't in production for very long. And I don't believe it was really a popular game, anyway, considering how you're supposed to play it (you choose an offensive/defensive play and watch footage of a football game in the hopes that you either gain yardage, eventually scoring a touchdown with enough right choices, or prevent your opponent from gaining yardage or a touchdown).
      And the only reason I can surmise why Bally/Midway chose CED over LaserDisc must be cost because, seriously, a stylus-based videodisc in an FMV arcade game?!

      people collected laserdiscs for the huge boxes. dvd's yes that could be labeled a fad. but VHS. very difficult to give away free now except the library. But laserdiscs boom bye bye have the LD2200 though. and plays warped ones fairly well. just not the digital ones :( thats my brothers. which doesn't play warped ones very well :P :) as in okay warped discs vs listening to the directors commentary vs noise. only thing DVD's are good for is the disc to digital trade for Ultraviolet for $2 or $1 after you had 10 movies on vudu :D or $2.50 if you have the bandwidth for HDX
