I used to drink with jack at the age of about 15 and his voice was already that deep and he already had a beard. He's a year or two younger than me but he'd get served and I'd get ID'd when we went to the pub.
Maybe not for everyone, but for me???? This is seriously one of the best voiced lessons on a “how to AND why” thanks;) appreciate your time with this upload! Thanks;)
I just realized this is literally one of the only 3 licks I know so far. I literally spam this lick in every chord shape to seem cool or fill in empty space cause I don't know anything else🤣
Thanks :) I'd also highly recommend coming to grips with the use of a metronome, unless you're spot on with your looper, you're going to create some timing problems as your loop..loops :)
Had a good read on all the comments. And with some of you, Never Judge a book by it’s cover especially when it comes to Soul. Apart from his sexy voice 🖐😆 this man would wipe a lot of you guys all over the floor & back when it comes to ability & perfection, and that’s just with NEO let alone any other style! Believe me! I wouldn’t want to turn up to a show down against him. Liverpool or not he can play! By the way nice work bro!
so glad more content is out for this style have been trying to learn it sense it was started but found it hard will be using the course in the near future
Great lesson and much appreciated. I'm new to neo soul and I'm trying to separate it from other styles particularly jazz. In general, is neo-soul jazz style chording, but with lots of embellishes such as arpeggios, slides, hammer ons/offs and plucking individual strings that make up a chord? I'm sure it's much more than that, but I'm starting from the very beginning here. Forgive my naiveness, but just trying to get a grasp of neo soul as I delve deeper into it.
not sure how he does it, but i found that plate reverb, a very slight almost inaudible delay, and tape or flat wound strings. pair that with an orange amp and youre golden
@@brennanbrooker That is 1 million percent not an orange amp it's much more a non coloured solid state. Neo soul guitar doesn't really exist it's just stolen elements from Gospel guitar, (smooth) Jazz guitar and the softer side of Blues guitar. The long sustain is just stolen from blues - this is done with an over drive pedal - they tend not to use any of the sweet sounding blues over drives or tube amps they use really lame really girly soft sounding blues breaker clones that have even less bite then the original breaker.
Wow cool video. I was just playing around with Neo Soul for the first time and naturally did that exact thing at 3:40 and made a nice little lick. With this type of music, things just feel natural to me. Going to dig in a bit deeper now. Usually a rock or metal kind of guy but idk. Love this sound.
Hey, man. That is a bad ass guitar. Somebody should having moved the tuning pegs to the body years ago. It never made since to have to fret a note and use the strumming hand to adjust the pegs. I see the frets are angled higher up the fret. I'm going to look into these guitars. Nice instrument and content.
Jack uses a Strandberg Guitar :) For a sense of history the first electric headless guitar came out in 1979, designed by Ned Steinberger. Along with his basses which were iconic in the 80s! :)
Hi Becka! - as you don't have a guitar yet, Jack's course will be a little too advanced for you as I can imagine you need to learn the basics. www.musicisum.net/guitar Rabea's course is an excellent place to start learning the guitar :)
You have a gorgeous voice
????wtf??? Red headed Barry White
It's the microphone and EQ set up - and it is good, yes. It sounds close mic but isn't.
Guthrie Govan
🤝
It’s really just the mix and mix
chords & notes
- [0:14] gospel flick (ex: minor 7th chord)
- [1:00] hammer ons and pull offs from pentatonic or dorian scale
- [2:27] chromatic notes
- [3:06] diatonic c major scale & adding notes from dorian or lydian scale
right/ left hand synchronization
- right hand
- [5:36] hybrid picking
- don’t play every note from every chord voicing
- [7:07] choosing which notes to ring out
- left hand
- [8:46] sliding motions
- [9:17] listen to bass players & songs and try to match them. incorporate techniques you like into your playing.
hey nice work! thanks :D
Do you want a job making timestamps for my youtube channel?
this guy's voice is like 7 octaves lower than mine. marvelous.
Sounds like Guthrie Govan a bit

What a nice lesson,is this from Jack his new course?
Hey Rob, yup! This is from Jack's new Neo Soul Guitar course :)
At what point did his headstock and lower guitar body get shot clean off? I'm amazed it's still playable.
