I was doing alright in life until I found this channel then started binge watching. Now I’m a 48 year old man that sleeps with a bright night light and runs and jumps in bed.
Yeah, like I had incidents like this in my childhood.. like doing something stupid you just don't no it's stupid yet because you're a kid and then an adult coming by grabbing you by your ears or just telling you off loudly and as a kid you feel like you've almost been eaten alive by a monster.. then the older you get, the funnier the story becomes until you get that you were in the "wrong" and you just met an adult that doesn't know how to behave around kids.

Nosy neighbors don't get nearly enough credit. Massive props to that neighbor lady 💙. If everyone had neighbors like that the world would be a better place!
I'm one of those nosey neighbors :) it actually did come in handy . Three years ago , the man who lived across the street , was murdered in broad daylight. I seen the whole thing and had to talk to the police , along with them taking my video camera. In February of this year they were finally found and arrested . I will be honest. I was terrified of them coming after me.

I remember recently I was about to enter a store, and a child just comes running out on his own. He was playful, but totally alone and about 4 or 5 years old. No one thought anything of it, but I thought, "Waitaminute, this doesn't happen. Something's up." I keep an eye on where he's running to by pulling back and observing from afar. He stopped somewhere past the store and didn't seem to know where he was going. Just then a frantic woman comes out of the store desperately calling a name over and over again. I shuffle to her and say, "right here!," pointing where the kid went. As we rushed over, I started to describe the kid in a questioning manner to get confirmation, but her senses were too heightened to pay attention. She was relieved when she found him, and showed how told him how frightened she was he just ran off like that. He was running really fast, so she probably only missed him by a split second. In the store holding him, she thanked me from afar and I gave a dorky thumbs up. Afterwards, I considered all of these things I may have done wrong; What if she didn't follow me and thought I was leading her into a trap? Why did I ask for confirmation by describing the kid? It's not like there'd be two separate lost kids at the same time in the same place. What if someone grabbed the kid while I let him get far away? It seemed like one of those close calls where something could've gone very wrong fast. If it was, how could I handle it better in the future? ...
Same. I am a professional hold care provider and even when I’m not working, I always have my eyes on the children around me. At this point it’s a force of habit.
Seen a toddler running down a busy street in only a diaper and crying. I stopped my car and got out and followed the boy, the father came running after him a few minutes later. He just started yelling at the boy never to do that again, no thank you or anything. They walked away. I was in shock.

My husband introduced me to this channel over the weekend, and I've apparently watched more than 30 videos already. It's way too easy to binge this channel while cleaning/cooking-- Mr. Ballen is quite possibly the clearest, most interesting speaker I've ever heard, and he's a dang good story-teller to boot. What a guy.
Facts. A friend introduced me to this channel on Monday and I’ve already watched almost all his videos. Will probably finish watching them all by the end of the weekend.
This reminds me of a creepy incident that happened when I was in my early teens. I was walking my dog in the park and I noticed there was a white van parked outside a house. It had a taxi sign on top and although it looked kind of old, I figured the guy was just picking someone up. I went home and didn't think anything of it. The next day, I saw him there again. I thought the person in the house must have a taxi picking them up around the same time for something. The home owner left their house and walked straight past the 'taxi'. I was still trying to rationalize it by thinking it was for someone else since it was a densly populated area. This time, when I was close enough, he did call out to me. He asked me about my dog. I, still thinking my imagination was getting the best of me, stopped and told him about my dog. It was a very normal conversation. Just "oh, she looks like a sweetheart! What's her name?" Eventually, I said I had to get going and that's when I knew something was very wrong. He started calling my dog to his van. My dog was a rotty and a big one. She started pulling me towards him. I called out again, saying I had to go. He didn't even look at me and started calling my dog by name and encouraging her to keep coming. I pulled as hard as I could on the leash until she listened and followed me and immediately started power walking away, occasionally glaring back at this guy so he'd know I had I eye out in case he tried following me home. I never saw that truck again after that day. I'm now 29 and still wonder what the hell was going through his mind. Safety before propriety. better to seem 'rude' than to never come home.
I heard him say she didn’t want to seem rude by running away and I immediately pause the video to tell my daughter if that ever happens to her to run away. You don’t know them run away , it’s not rude it’s being safe.

I don't hate dogs, i'm not a dog person either, i just feel meh about dogs. I don't really mind them as long as they leave me alone. And there's nothing i would gain from harming one. This is literally my worst nightmare as a mother. My daughter didn't get off the bus after school once when she was 8; the next 3 hours I literally vividly imagined all of the horrific things that could be happening to her. At one point, I remember praying that if somebody had her, please let her die fast so they can't hurt her anymore. Thank God it turned out that she had just decided to get off at a friend's bus stop; and because the friend's parents weren't home, they didn't answer the phone or the door when I went over there in a panic to ask her mother if her daughter had seen her get off the bus. I was literally walking out the door with her last school picture to meet the police when she traipsed in the door like I hadn't just been losing my mind for the last 3+ hours, so scared of what might be happening to her that I vomited. I couldn't even spank her; all I could do was hold her and cry, and I think that made more of an impact than any punishment could have.
Three hours is an eternity in situations like that. When I was about 2 1/2 (early 70s), I disappeared from our house on a Sunday afternoon. It was an old house, and the door latch didn't always catch, so I probably just pushed the door open and went outside and who knows where else. Police were looking for me, and then our church's youth group started searching. We lived right next door to the church where my father was the minister. No one ever found me or has any idea where I was. I'd been missing for 2 hours when I walked back in the house. My mother was sitting at the dining room table crying, thinking the worst. I talked at an early age and spoke clearly at 2 1/2. I didn't make up stories. My family has always said they don't know where I was, but I just think they didn't want to believe what I told them, that I was given ice cream by some man. I wish I knew. I have no memory of this, just what I've been told.
Yes we had a similar situation happened when my son was 5 in kindergarten his mom had just moved and he got on the wrong bus and he thought he was at the right bus stop but got off in the wrong neighborhood and was actually walking by himself. Thank God a police officer happened to have been driving by and stopped to ask him if he was okay and where he was going! When I picked him up, i just broke down. I still get choked up when I think about it and what could have happened had that officer not stopped. God has a plan for all of us. That's all I can say.
When I was in kindergarten or first grade, my bus crashed into a ditch. It was a very small rural town, and the bus driver nor any or the kids had cell phones with them. Thankfully, since it was so hick the house we crashed by was able to winch us out with his truck XD. Or help, anyways. We didn't get home for about another two hours. My poor mother and my grandparents were so scared 😢

Unfortunately, my background is in Criminology, and with there being over 200k children going missing every year, it's not so rare a thing as to be a negligible worry. A good movie can be based on this story. What's funny is that everyone hates the nosey neighbor lady, but she is needed, trust me on that. I learned that the hard way.
I know, if you hid it in the first place. "because since you remember " well she doesnt remember that part. She hasnt remembered anything she didnt always remember. You didnt tell her as a child bcus you wanted her to grow up with a sense of freedom and empowerment, and that sense is what made her the adult she is. Why would you risk potentially undermining that sense of freedom and empowerment in the adult woman? Nobody wants to feel that squick of what nearly happened. The fact she went to meet him and find out tells me it wasnt a good idea to tell her or any grown woman (-- or man for that matter, if it had happened with a young boy). One's mind doesn't know what to do with such info, with sudden onset of a horrific past possibility. Its heavy. But, ok so then he tells here "Well, sure, I had planned to abduct, immobilize, terrify, slash, sexually torture, mutilate, brutally rape and eventually kill, butcher, and dissolve you and hide your remains in 5 gallon drums, of course!.. when you were EIGHT YEARS OLD..."....then what? She gets the last laugh ie your rotting here and never laid hands on me. But he had played eyes on her. She was winning better when she didnt even know who he was. The best part about her being saved from his intentions is not only preserving her life and safety, but preserving in her that sense of security most ppl have even as adults, except those who have suffered and survived or brushed close (maybe too close?) to terrible things.
Well, it is a lesson that paranoia has its place and that there are evil people out there. Like it or not, the world is a crazy place. A lot of people are generally good, but there are also a lot of real crazy people.
OK. Here’s a funny story for you critics. My late wife had been beaten and abused by a guy before she married me for the better part of a year. She kicked him out, so he snuck into the house and hid in the closet. When she came home he beat her savagely, he raped her and he held her at knife point and was going to kill her until there was a police standoff out front. He was arrested, convicted, and sentenced to 18 years in prison. He served six years, and got out, and no one let us know. You folks that think I’m some horrible person don’t get the point of what I had posted. Authorities, whether it be through overwork, negligence, or downright malice, don’t always do things in a way that help victims move on. They could, and have, screwed things up in such a way as I described.
@@jaytrace1006 Hey I wasn't criticizing you, but I apologize my comment comes across that way. It was 100% intended to be a joke, not any form of criticism. I understand some of that pain, I'm also a survivor of abuse and traumatic assault, and my case was misshandled....but the comment section did not know that detail about your late wife. I have to say... I've been watching a ton of your videos, and you cover some truly horrific stories. I can say without a doubt this story was by far the most disturbing of any stories you've told. I felt physically ill hearing this, I was gasping throughout. I couldn't begin to imagine or want to. I can't believe she wasn't taken that day and I'm so incredibly glad she's safe
Due to her mother, neighbor, & police being so flawlessly vigilant this monster was stopped BEFORE a truly horrific crime occurred. What a shame for her mother to harbor any guilt or shame on such impeccable actions. Can you imagine the years of PTSD symptoms she spared her daughter such as constant nightmares, regaining her sense of safety to name a few. Another very appropriate choice in my opinion. Great video as always 🖤💜🖤
Why was Jen never told about this before? Did her mother imagine that ignorance would protect her. When I was growing up there was a rapist in the neighbourhood and all of us children knew, and ran away from him with cries of "look out, the rapist is coming", when we spotted him in the distance on the streets. The child should have been told. People escape custody, and also since there are others like that out there, surely that should have made the parents see the need of enlightening their children.

Mr. Ballen tells great tales in a very captivating way so as to paint a complete picture in details and context....but I really don' know why I torture myself listening to the stories because they are so freakishly chilling!
14:15 "... he took his own life." - and a small, almost involuntary, but very genuine "Yay" passed my lips. This girl is much safer now, along with all the other children.
This is a very good example of how we need to be looking out for eachother. I hate usually people spy to judge rather than to help keep eachother safe. Also, that is freaking terrifying! After watching Mr. Ballen it is hard to not want to be over protective. Scary stuff. No...terrifying stuff. Stuff of nightmares.

@@richarddavis6523 100% As a British person, even complaining about obviously wrong things is not really pushed, just be polite (also a reason why British people are not very litigious, we don't like to go down the Ill sue you road and brush shit off, its a terrible trait really.) I learned while traveling to get rid of that "Mr nice guy" thing in situations but it is always that British culture that I always have to reprogram in situations that obviously need a confrontation, I don't like how in Britain we tend to celebrate shitness or bad situations as a joke and not deal with them.
Unfortunately that's the kind of thing that's impressed on people; especially women. I have troubles asserting boundaries too and I've had to sit through very uncomfortable (but thankfully not dangerous) situations before. Being quiet, polite, and patient were all things that I was told were virtues and I got ridiculed when I would complain about anything. Unfortunately my psychologist said I'm susceptible to victimization because of this. But my experience isn't an isolated case. It's a cultural value many women are forced into where they are constantly taught that they have to "put up or shut up" and make themselves as small as they can (metaphorically) or people won't like them. So I'm not surprised that they would think that in the moment.

So what you're saying is, Frankie's mom....has got it going on?
Are you in love with Frankie’s mom? 😂
This is why my eyes are always on my child and any other child around me. I don't care who's baby it is, ill be watching over them.
I remember recently I was about to enter a store, and a child just comes running out on his own.
He was playful, but totally alone and about 4 or 5 years old. No one thought anything of it, but I thought, "Waitaminute, this doesn't happen. Something's up."
I keep an eye on where he's running to by pulling back and observing from afar.
If it was, how could I handle it better in the future? ...
I appreciate you!

@Resist Biden I can agree, to a point. Unfortunately, my background is in Criminology, and with there being over 200k children going missing every year, it's not so rare a thing as to be a negligible worry.

@@NeilMalthus That may be true for a few of his “true” stories. However, there is a few issues with your suggestions.
1. He actually has “shorts” where he puts his own “narrative spin” on fictitious stuff I.e. moments in movies etc… he did one about “The Descent” and,
2, I’ve seen some stories he has shared, but on different “true” channels AND I’ve seen some in documentaries.
3, Putting your own “Narrative spin” on a true story that has already been told doesn’t take a whole lot of time to research. All you have to do is research a bunch of stories, give ten minutes per story to try and find a few more details and then add your own spice.

What's funny is that everyone hates the nosey neighbor lady, but she is needed, trust me on that. I learned that the hard way.
Vigilant =/= nosey
Why even tell your daughter all of that!?! Just be like "haha that is a weird memory"

When she came home he beat her savagely, he raped her and he held her at knife point and was going to kill her until there was a police standoff out front. He was arrested,
convicted, and sentenced to 18 years in prison. He served six years, and got out, and no one let us know.

I learned while traveling to get rid of that "Mr nice guy" thing in situations but it is always that British culture that I always have to reprogram in situations that obviously need a confrontation, I don't like how in Britain we tend to celebrate shitness or bad situations as a joke and not deal with them.
