How many of you guys know his Bowling action was fixed as a WORLD CUP LOGO... Each time of an OVERS, WICKETS, FOURS AND SIXES his logo has showed.. He is the only Indian Bowler to have such a HONOUR...
The unique thing about 1999 WC in England was that it was played with white Duke ball. After that tournament the white Duke ball was banned from ODIs because it swung a lot. Rahul Dravid was the highest scorer in 1999 WC with 461 runs. The white Kookaburra ball has been used ever since. Personally, I'm in the favor of swing! 😎

An uncanny swing bowler from India who wasn't given enough opportunities

As a Pakistani 90s kid, for me mohanty was a typical Indian pacer...not express but good swing.....but he was talented....in my view, one of the best out swing bowlers of 90s if not the best ..he didn't swing odd one... he could swing the new ball same way all day and could bowl same lengths all the time..we called him banana swing bowler in school....his ball just moved away from off stump so smoothly
A unique action never seen elsewhere nowadays in cricket. Debashish mohanty from Orissa. At that time there was noone from this state. Unluckily he couldn't go on to represent India for a longer period. Now after 15 years we have same bumrah like him who resembles mohanty.

He did - but the key thing was the white Duke’s ball. That type of ball swung, and swung a lot, which helped him. When he didn’t get swing, he was akin to a trundler who could get smacked all over the park.
A simple man but truly amazing talent who just faded away. Wish we had seen more of him. He was equal or better than most promising bowlers of today. This is a great video showcasing his ability.

It is the misfortune of BCCI and India that such a class bowler was not nurtured like Zaheer, Bhuvaneshwar and their ilk. He was medium pace bowler, only good in overcast conditions. Otherwise he got smmashed all over park with no pace. Agarkar was faster, good at batting and fielding.
Please consider the fact that the majority of his wickets are taken against Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Baroda i.e. against weaker teams in RANJI. Ashoke Dinda has also taken 400+ wickets does it mean he is a great bowler.
Actually agarkar not at all a match to Mohanty. Coming to batting how many times have u seen agarkar making 40+. It's very rare & that too he will score only when it's batting pitch. Now coming to bowling Mohanty used to bowl both inswing & outswing , similar to bhuvi where as agarkar just a medicore bowler neither swing neither pace. But yes, he is having some kind of batting advantage & that's why he got selected.
I was not aware about him but just saw Sachin interview regarding mohanthy taking 4 time Saeed anvar wicket... I search to see his actions... wow his out swing are dangerous... and inswing too.
Debasis Mohanty is from my state odisha. Myself have played few club level matches in the same club. He used to mentor us. His career was cut short due to biased decision from bcci which used to favour Bengal bowlers like Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Mumbai bowler like Abey Kuruvilla . Mohanty could swing the ball much better way than both of them. One lacuna in his ability was non existent batting. Shukla was tried as a pace bowling allrounder.

The most unbelievable piece of swing bowling , with a red ball ,was Bob Massie for Australia v England at lords I think in the 70’s . He never repeated it to that level.
When I was a kid I used to use three bowling actions. Agarkar for fast Yorkers, zaheer for bouncers and mohanty for tricky variations. Most of the time I used to get my friends out using Mohanty's action so much that they eventually figured out to be patient whenever I brought out that one.
He was not being seen after this 1999 World Cup bcoz india lost in that game.. captain were not such smart dat time as azharuddin used his all over at started.. he was not given a fair chance to play further in his career... Game in politics
he played after 1999 wc. he played 18 matches after 1999 wc , got 27 wickets. After Ganguly became skipper, mohanty dropped in early 2000 inspite of getting 33 wickets in 20 matches 1999-2000. in 2001 he got 10 wickets in an innings against Southzone, earned his place. but played only 4 matches 4 wickets , 127 runs in 30 overs 4 wickets( one of the match against Wi, he got 3 for 18 in 10 overs).

@@robinloy392 during those days match fixing was at its peak, may be a script written for this match
Surprising that Nayan Mongia continued in the team for so many years with out any struggle even though he is below rated batsman....

Tony greag super commetry... 👌👌👌
Always smiling player.. i never saw him serious..
Odisha guy❤️
Jai Jagannath 🙏🙏🙏
1999 World Cup logo was based on his action which many people don’t know.
In 2022 (2:14) hat's a clear LB with DRS

He would be a superb test matches bowler now a days...😉👍
What a Swing. I thought there is no Anderson in India. He is better than Anderson
If he is from Mumbai definitely played 300 matches
@@srinivasnodagala1722 but he played more matches when tendulkar was captain. Dropped once Saurav take over captaincy.
