Best video ever with the perfect title. Had this issue today, searched on Google and got to this video. Just fixed the refrigerator myself. Thank you so much for making and uploading this video!
You are the Man. I was ready to scrap my 15 years old KitchenAid side by side fridge which I have in the garage, but I was thinking give it last shot and I changed relay which you're showing on the video. It did not clicked- it was dead with brawn burned spat on the bottom. Replaced and the fridge is working again ! Thank you
Had 12 amps for 5 to 10 seconds then out. I thought was a locked compressor, even though the lock out rating on it was 14.1. After testing with a new relay it now running at 1.2 which is optimal health! The Samurai Repairman Rocks!!!
Thanks man. Same sound my fridge was making...but my relay was not rattling and I used a multimeter to test it. Had extremely high reading. Got a new one and voiler we were back in business.
Another good vid. Thanks for taking the time to share. I refer you to my customers while they wait for me to show up. I like it when they hover over my shoulder to admire all my tools and techniques :)
It's very much like a performance. Not in the sense that it's fake in any way, but that you are creating and managing the customer's perception of you as a professional appliance repair technician.
Thanks! Your advice rocks! With it I fixed my frig saving me $$$$. All I need to do was to download the manual to learn how to remove the cover from the side of the compressor. My frig is back in business! That relay rattled just as you indicated.
Exact same issue with my Whirlpool fridge, unplugging the unit for 5 minutes would get the compressor started and running/cooling, then the very next cycle back to humming and click. Swapped out the starter relay, but that was only a temporary fix. Replaced the relay with a Supco 3 in 1 hard start kit and no issues so far, compressor runs normally all day long.
@@jaygoss6632 Purchased mine on Amazon. If I remember correctly it was a matter of finding the model number of the compressor (Huayi B25H5 in my case) and Googling " starter relay". I found a relay that looked just like mine after some digging and go THAT model / part # and then found it on Amazon along with some pictures in the reviews of the relay sitting next to a compressor with the same model number printed on its side. Good luck! IIRC the "pin" count and location is the key thing you want to confirm before purchasing. Almost bought a 2-pin relay before realizing mine had only 1.
Fingers crossed but compressor just started after I changed the relay for a UCPO. Cold air is getting out of the fridge, looking good!!! A MILLION THANKS!
like the way you explain i was serching all vid but yours was the best because i have the same problem and the expilation i found here thanks a lot my friend
Hi!, im a newbie in this all electronics things, my fridge making the clicking sound and the compressor gets hot, i think im having the same problem with in the video, my question is this relay thing is there something i should know how much power it can run or anything, or i should just go to hardware and ask for relay, thanks in advance
how do you know which one to buy by hp? I bought one 1/6 but one of the connection doesnt fit its wider. Mine didnt rattle but compressor or the relay clicks🤷♀️
The PTC start device ("relay") and the overload should be sized for the compressor. Generally, they break out by horsepower group, 1/4 hp, 1/3 hp, etc. You can get the OEM replacement at an online parts store like Repairlinic or Appliancepartspros (two of my faves) by searching with your model number at their site.
I have did all what you have showed in the video, but compressor start and stop after few minutes even after i installed new ptc relay. What you recommend me to do next. I loved your explanation. Thanh you in advance for your reponse
This is an interesting video Samurai, taught me alot i was just reading about this but reading alone wasn't enough for me to understand and as i saw this vid it helped to explain what i didn't understand from reading The current draw you got in the end is 1.61 amps.... do most fridge compressors draw about that amount?
I believe this is the same thing that’s wrong with mine, it starts and stops.. I’m going to fix, I’ll keep in touch and let you know how it went.. thanks a bunch.. 7/25/2022. Kenmore refrigerator 😀
Weird thing. And I can't find any knocking like it online. My first thought was compressor. It's literally 3 knocks that sounds like they're knocking on that thin pseudo wood. And it could still be the old plug in heater in the room. I can't exactly place the direction of the sound yet so I was looking for video's to compare the sound before a refrigerator takes a crap ya know? Fridge shows no other signs of failure and in fact is still super cold in the back. Can you point me to compressor knocking videos?
I am replacing the relay and overload on my Kenmore 596.58642890. We have them put on the compressor ( which we checked by Ohms and it looks good) cannot figure out the wiring. We are going from using 4 wires down to 3 and cann't get it to work. It does not have a capcitator that we could find. How do you know which wires go where. I have a white, blue, and a black split in 2? Any help would be appreciated.
Sir, i want to ask what is the reason: a 110 watt compressor runs ok in around 70 watts, ..low side stays in vacuum around 25 and high side around 200 psi.the pressure on high and low sides does not equalize if i turn off the compressor..
hi guys can you helpme please. i have refrigerator which is not cooling in the compartmen (down side) but in the freezer(up side) is good. what is the posible cause? any idea please
My refrigerator cooling, the stuff in the freezer has defrosted. I checked the relay and it's not making the rattling sound and it's making the same noises that you have on hte video. I still replaced it and it's making a clicking sound like the compressor is trying to work.. Help I don't know what else to check
Hi! I've got this fridge that won´t start. It´s relay isn´t rattling and the tests on the compressors prongs are reading 10, 6 and 4 amps. Any thing else that I could do before I buy a new compressor?

I had the same issue. For me it was the thermal protection on the compressor. The coils were dirty towards the front of my SxS fridge. It was like a carpet and was blocking airflow. I unplugged the fridge for three hours. Cleaned coils and fan. It fired up right away and the heat was venting towards the front on the fridge vent normally. I also changed the start relay/overload combo but it didn't help I initially because it was a thermal issue
i need help , my compressor run and the refregirator cool great but while its running it makes a click sound ( lower the noise of the compressor ) then goes back to the normal noise its like 3-5 minutes cycle rq : the cooling works great but im worried rq : i have cleaned the coils and the fan from dust stil the same thing . Please HELP
@@AppliantologyOrg hi , thanks for your answer , its no longer cooling now haha . i've checked the fan , it works when i press the light botton switch there is air but not cool air . i guess its from the relay .
Hello Sir, My compressor turns on, stays on for about 5 seconds then cuts off, over and over and over. I replaced that relay, hoping to solve the issue and the problem still occurs. I've read that maybe the thermostat could be bad? What would you recommend next? I'm really hoping that the compressor is not bad...Thank you
Would the compressor get hot in this situation? I do hear that clicking sound, but the compressor is (very?) hot. The question mark is because I don't know what is normal in this case. It feels hot to the touch. I have a Samsung RSJ1KEPS
OK, thanks! That's exactly how it feels. So I took down the part and will try to replace it. Unfortunately, it seems it is not available anymore. Hopefully I will find some equivalent...
Well, no joy. I got a new relay (quite expensive, but well...) and the compressor still won't start. Funny thing is this new relay rattles straight out of the package, quite badly... But I measured it's resistance and it goes to 36 Ohm. I understand it should sit between 10 and 50 Ohm, so it looks fine (I measured also the old relay and it also looks fine, so I guess that may also have been OK). Also, if I hold down its terminals, it doesn't rattle so bad anymore, so I'm guessing it's just something about its construction. The compressor also measures fine electrically, with 33 Ohm, 19 Ohm and 14 Ohm between the terminals. Could it be that capacitor next to the PTC relay? Or am I looking at a mechanically failed compressor?
On most modern home refrigerators, current draws much over 2 amps is a sign that the compressor has been damaged. The extra current draw will create excessive heat. This heat will compound the problem and cause early failure. I like to see current draws well under 2 amps.
I just replaced my relay and it turned on with the compressor was making the buzzing noise for a long time and then it stopped.. and the temperature is at 222 degrees on the compressor. And it smells funny. Is this normal
Good job recording the noise the fridge made and getting right to the point not rambling on and on like other DIY videos 👍
