Many thanks for the effort, a very enjoyable video. A bit worried though when I saw you getting wet but knew you would be snug under your shelter with the fire.
Good to see you again, Giles, and thank you for sharing another of your outings. I did get to watch this last week just before going away for a bit, but only now have I a chance to comment. It did make quite a change to see you actually wearing your military cape this time, and there was certainly a different atmosphere with you being out in the wet. It's good to see the June lushness has sprung forth in southern England, as it certainly has here in Wales, although I do sympathise with you about the 'rising damp' as you called it, spraying up from the greenery. I sometimes wear a pair of waxed trousers (an old pair of cotton ones that I waxed myself) under my gaiters in wet weather, but of course they are only useful if you know in advance that it's going to be wet. I thought your comment about the Grim Reaper was hilarious, I laughed as I could well imagine someone getting startled as you came upon them round the corner with that big hood, and the backpack underneath made it look like you had a big hunch or hump. There was some great birdsong in the morning. I finally got out myself last weekend for two nights. It was a much-needed break with a good dose of peace and a lot of birdsong. There were birds singing constantly, but at dusk and dawn it was something else. Even a few cuckoos were joining in, but it was the songthrush who started the performance each morning. I even witnessed two cuckoos mating in the treetop above me the first morning, which was a magical experience I'll never forget. I now can't wait until the next time I can get out again, but until then I'll await another of your videos to keep my appetite well whetted. Cheers again, Giles. Please keep them coming!

Hey Giles thanks again for another great film, can I ask if you are seen / disturbed by other forest folks what do you say to explain that you're not camping long term? As many dog walkers etc may perceive it as illegal camping?
Thanks very much for watching and commenting. Yeah, fortunately I haven’t been disturbed. I always try to be as remote as possible. If asked to move on I would do so. I try to have minimal impact . This fire bowl is very small but even a few sticks of dead fall for fuel must be considered as it also could be provide some food for forest fungi for example. Thanks again 😊👍
Oh no the notifications had turned themselves off - can't believe I missed this! The rain finally made a brief appearance but it was still a great trip :)
Thx very much for watching the video. These are ex- British Army (circa 1980s to 90s I believe). They pop up occasionally on eBay or in surplus stores. Good luck 😊👍

Thanks again for your efforts I love to see the green vegetation I don't see that here in Arizona. It doesn't look like now I will be going camping in June. I wonder are you vegetarian or do you eat meat at all? Take care and be safe and as the saying goes leave no Trace your friend Arizona Dave
Great to hear from you Dave but very sad you won’t get away camping this coming month. I hope this is just a temporary glitch and you do get away soon. Yeah, I think I am vegetarian but probably nearly ‘plant based’ too. I think this means no dairy or eggs or honey (most of the time!) But, for example I use leather shoes etc. Anyway, good luck on getting out camping soon Buddy 👍
With all the vigorous spring growth holding a massive amount of water, gaiters are worth their weight in gold.Curious to know the origin of yours?.I have a pair of berghaus yeti gaiters, which are great, but a huge pain to apply/take off my boots due to a very tight rubber rand that fits on the welt of my boots.Another fantastic view of the south east's countryside, thankyou!
Thanks very much Dom. My gaiters are British Army - I found them on eBay. They are mainly cotton canvas but do have some synthetic components too 😕 Thx again 👍

Thanks very much Ed - I appreciate your support. Soya chunks are made from Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) and are usually available online, in health shops or large supermarkets. It is a dried food so lightweight to pack and easy to store at home. It has hardly any taste of its own but takes on the flavour of the cooking sauce. Pretty much fat free but high in protein 😊👍
Thanks very much Nick. Dehydrated veg are easy to prepare and carry alright. But for the tastiest and best textured meal I think it’s good to have a mixture of fresh and dried. Eg mushrooms are lovely dried but onion is much better fresh etc Cheers 🍽 👍
Thanks very much for watching and commenting too. Yes, I use the windshield as a reflector and windshield (when windy) and also it hides the fire at night a little bit making a more stealthy camp 😊👍

Thanks again Will. Really appreciate you watching and commenting. Yeah, my knife was a pretty cheap buy from Amazon - about £25 I seem to remember. It’s made by Western Knives and is some kind of stainless/titanium combo ? Concave grind but with a bevel. Think it’s more hunting than Bushcraft really. Regular stropping keeps it razor. Worked well for me so I haven’t got round to upgrading yet 😊👍
@@gilesbinyon KNIVES: what a topic! I have a bunch of more expensive knives. They don't do any more than your one does! I believe you bought wisely the first time and that 'upgrading' may not get YOU any improvement for your money.

Thanks Darren. Glad you got to see it and thx very much for watching and commenting 👍
This man ain’t no cowboy !!
He’s an honest injun 👍🏾😊
Ha ha!!! Thx very much - I like it - that made me chuckle 🤣👍
What kind of gaiters are those, please? Great vid!
Thx very much for watching the video. These are ex- British Army (circa 1980s to 90s I believe). They pop up occasionally on eBay or in surplus stores. Good luck 😊👍
Hi Giles another great video with some nice views. Good gear will always take care of you and getting wet is part of the travel. May I ask what camera do you use. All the best
Thanks very much for watching and commenting. Yeah, I do all filming (and editing too) on my iPhone. Think the model is the SE2020. It’s an older model but quite compact. 😊👍
A river with chalk cliffs? HMMMMM I wonder where you are :) I was there myself not long ago!
Thanks for watching and commenting Tommy. Ha! No prizes for guessing of course !!!😉
@@gilesbinyon The pleasure is all mine Giles!
Veggie oxo cube in the stew. I also add some pulses like soup mix. Veggie oxo is much better than all the other veggie stock cubes I’ve tried. X
Thanks very much for watching and commenting Jessica. And also the oxo tip too. And I do need to try a few pulses as you suggest - easy to pack and carry. Thx again 😊👍
@@gilesbinyon I’ve kinda worked out where you were camping in one vid. The one with the priory ruins, flint mines and dual carriageway! Don’t worry. I’m no stalker, was curious where you were as you mentioned Neolithic flint napping and all that! I’m an archaeology lover!
You’re safe, I’m near Bristol and fuel is woahhhhh. X
Love your videos sir! I’ve been subbed for a while! May I ask what those soya chunks are you always add to your stew are? Have a great day!
Love your vids, why dont you perepare all your vegs, as you do your dehydrated stuff? Save time and weight xx
A enjoyable video basic as it should be nature and a fire for company giles
Thank you very much Tim. You are right - a fire is great company in the woods 👍
Are you using the windscreen as a windscreen or as a heatreflector?
Nice video, keep it up👍
Thanks very much for watching and commenting too. Yes, I use the windshield as a reflector and windshield (when windy) and also it hides the fire at night a little bit making a more stealthy camp 😊👍
Nice one Giles, its always a great feeling drying out by a woodland fire after a soaking .Do you find your Fallkniven keeps a keen edge? all best Will 😊
Thanks again Will.
@@gilesbinyon blimey thats a bit of a bargain its good if it keeps an edge at that price, looks like an F1
@@gilesbinyon KNIVES: what a topic! I have a bunch of more expensive knives. They don't do any more than your one does! I believe you bought wisely the first time and that 'upgrading' may not get YOU any improvement for your money.
@@jamesellsworth9673 think you could be right James - 👍
I appreciate weight can be an issue with this kind of gear but that is of course dependant on how far your walking. Would be nice to see what sort of shelter a 2 poncho set up would provide...
Hi and thanks very much for watching and commenting. Yeah, 2 ponchos would give more space definitely. 😊👍
4:08 Cettis warbler, another nice tick
Thanks again Nick. Crikey, he must be following me around the countryside - he will soon be starting his own channel !!! 🤣😂🤣😂 Cheers 😊
👍👍👍
Cheers Tommy - appreciated 😊👍
Can you please river dance on the fire ashes at the end of the video, feels right 😁
Ha ha ! The LNT Stomp !!! 🤣👍
So this looks like the Houghton/South woods chalk quarries I mentioned in my last comment. Near Arundel?
Thanks again for watching and commenting. Yeah, not far there. Cheers 👍
What kind of zeltbahn was that?
Hi there and thanks for watching. This is the NVA Zeltbahn (strichtarn). Cheers ⛺️🌲
Another good one Giles. Chills me out for a peaceful nights sleep. long may you hike !
Thanks very much Allen - thx for your support and glad you got a chilled nights 💤 🛏 !!! 😊👍
Do you think you will ever change your system?
Thanks again for watching. Not sure what changes to make but as you know camping setups are always evolving ! It really suits me at the moment 😊👍
@@gilesbinyon I can just see you with a frost river junior pack oneday is all.

Thank you Keith. It’s heartening to hear you are waiting for another video - thank you. I’ve just been a bit tied down the last few weeks including going some good things with family - so I shouldn’t complain that I haven’t been out wild camping much !!! Hope to get a vid out soon tho. @@gilesbinyon can't wait to see you out again its a pleasure talking with you m8
can you make pancakes or bread in the wilderness
Thanks for watching Joshua. I haven’t made pancakes yet. But I’ve done flat bread and dampers. Probably a few videos back now. Thanks for the question. Take care 👍
Great video as always 👍 do you have Instagram ? Oh and thanks to you I went and brought 2 plash palatkas because i dont fit under just the one haha
Thank you very much MDM Outdoor Adventures, appreciate it. Sorry you had to buy x2 Palatkas - I hope you got them quite cheaply ie about £30 each.
I don’t do Instagram but I know I need to get onto it 🫤👍
@@gilesbinyon yeah got them from military mart so pretty cheap 👍 brought one to start with but wasn't big enough so purchased the second 👍 .
