    As much as Tom tried, he can't outperform Martin's AFI intro of Tom Hanks. Steve just absolutely owned that AFI intro.....🤣😂😎

      Tom was being himself. I don't think he tried to be Steve Martin. How can any?

    • @4seeableTV
      @4seeableTV 2 года назад +1

      I was thinking the same thing. I like Hanks a lot but he's trying to be a little too intellectual here. Talking too much and not really being that funny. No one's better at doing these things than Steve Martin.

    I saw Steve at Carneige hall in 1977, after the blues bros warmed us up, Steve sang King Tut.
    then started his comedy routine opening with the disappering Dime trick, he said for the people in the upper section, as soon as I heard it I remembered it from a taped show I had and I yelled out, "alright" really loud, the whole place laughed and Steve paused then continued, awesome show, all for 15 dollars

    • @mapexmac
      @mapexmac 5 лет назад +1

      Saw that show in 1978, Universal Amphitheater BEFORE they put a roof on it - John Belushi entered Stage Left, doing those amazing acrobatic hand springs ACROSS THE ENTIRE STAGE... And Steve performed and entertained for over an hour. What a show, what a memory.

  •  11 лет назад +12

    Love "LA Story". It has such great lines. "A kiss may not be the truth, but it is what we wish were true". Or "She's not so young. She'll be 27 in four years!". Who´d say that underneath that "jerk" there´d be such a poet?

    Steve Martin may not be the guy to come up with memorable quotes like "I'll be back" or "Life is a box..." etc But he sure introduced those brilliant scenes for the first time that you will always remember him by. *In Roxanne,* buying a newspaper, after a quick glimpse of terror, spends another dime just to shove it back inside the Bulletin Box.😅 *Three Amigos* dialogue "...man to man" 😅Unforgettable! *Father of the Bride* that silent blank expression on his face when daughter tells him she's getting married 😅And who could ever forget the beating on *Dirty Rotten Scoundrel* 😅😅😅 That's right, i'm off to watch that now.

    Give me more Steve Martin at the Oscars. The best ,even overshadowing Billy Crystal. The stars and public love him . Seems so comfortable and effortless. Makes fun of the stars and they laugh as well. Hes one of the club so its ok. Kimmel, jon stewart, ellen, chris rock. Dont seem as accepted by the stars and therefore arent as comfortable. It seems forced at times. Billy Crystal is loved as well although his timing and delivery of jokes cant compare to Mr Martin

      +roald dahl All of those men have long since died while Steve has out-lived them all; and that is just one way in which he is superior. And who among those men can claim the greatest acting roles in film? Again, Steve Martin. Also, ask yourself; what have the likes of Voltaire and Pope done lately? Steve continues to be active in his profession and again, transcendent among the greats. Not even Mark Twain could win the Mark Twain Prize- but Steve did. So reconsider and I'm sure you'll agree that Steve Martin is the greatest.
