Super Nice looking 88'👍 I'd like to drive an 88' sometime to experience the difference in handling. I currently own an 86' GT I picked up in a trade back in 2016. Driving it for 30 minutes is equivalent to pressing reset on my brain. It's awesome 👍
Taking a '88 for a spin... won't tell you any difference unless you are willing to take it to the car's limits, preferred on the track. I have '88 GT with 5 Speed. I believe Onix's automatic & you can't really push it with automatics. Driving my '88 after driving '84 SE 4 Speed for years, I was not able to tell the difference yet. Again, you will know the difference once you push it to the limits. I doubt Onix will allow you to abuse his baby. Ha
@@vice4134 you are right nobody abuses my baby...lol. ive driven a few pre 88 cars and i felt the difference right away but you are correct its much more apparent at the limits as the pre 88 cars were pretty good to begin with. By the way you can push the automatics as hard as the manuals but the manuals are more fun, unless you are stuck in bumper to bumper traffic
@@onixfieroandscalemodelworks I'll bet my former '84 SE's WS6 made a huge difference. That's probably why I couldn't tell the difference. They said WS6 was pretty good. So, I'll bet if it was a basic Fiero without the works for the front, I probably would have noticed the difference.
I will civer the rear in a future episode. The gm ,lotus connection to the fiero is mostly a myth. Im sure pontiac was influenced by lotus but the suspension was designed only by pontiac.

Even though they said it's a myth, you still have to question it since there is no source to prove it. Hulki Aldikacti denied it, but I’m sure he’s not sharing everything either, for fear of lawsuit. Many GM management admitted they still feel fear of sharing secrets long after retired. In a reality, your mind would tell you, if you own a big company like GM, with many subsidiaries under your control, why would you not take advantage of all resources including Lotus has to offer to Pontiac, instead of paying money out of your company to Porsche to fine tune it for $100K or whatsoever. I would rather keep the money in my company and get Lotus to fine tune it. Again, paying money out of your company to Porsche to fine tune it doesn't make any sense. Your logical thinking would tell you that any person would take advantage of all resources from their corporate system. Period. It shows they are not telling us the whole story. I would say, it's inspired by Lotus, YES, for sure! Where are they getting those ideas from their Pontiac racing program? (As they claimed that's where it came from.) Lotus? Could be. They could easily just take a few pictures of a Lotus racing car and bring it over to the drawing board & design something similar. Bottom line: Always question everything. Because this story will continue to change in the future as we gain more info. Cheers!
@@vice4134 im not sure when gm aquired lotus but the 88 fiero was designed for the 84 model year but gm wouldnt give them the money and they had to use off the shelf parts. So was it lotus or not? The official answer is no, but the similarities are there so the truth is probably somewhere in between
@@onixfieroandscalemodelworks The GM bought Lotus in 1986. But yes, you're right, Pontiac already had this design for 1984 model year. I remember Hulki's team bypassed thru GM's normal channels to build Fiero, by working with outside companies to speed up the process for drawing & designing Fiero. So, I would assume that Hulki was thinking the same for 1988 Fieros, instead of reaching out to Lotus... where GM probably would say no, paid outside service to Porsche for their consulting service. That makes sense in how they worked around GM's strict rules. That's probably how they got around to start on $30 million suspension redesign.
Thanks for the awesome info about the fierro

You should have mentioned that both the front and rear was changed as a result of GM buying Lotus and applying that design tech to the 88 Fiero.

Nice look at the difference between the cars. Thanks for sharing,
Its a subject thats mostly ignored with these cars. They changed so much in 88 and not many people realize how different they are.
I've always liked the Fiero. Really informative video. looking forward to the next one. I'll be watching
