    I’m not half the RC pilot you are, but I’m licensed in full scale helicopters and small planes. I would consider the application of thrust reverse to be a post landing decision. On short final my only thoughts would be go/no go, and I wouldn’t even think about that reverse switch until all 3 wheels are on the ground. Thanks for another awesome video, it’s amazing to see that thing land in such a short distance, and it certainly makes the devil on my shoulder say BUY IT!!! (From your links of course) 😎

    Just set up my Viper 90mm with NX10. Your Reverse Thrust setup with Mix was extremely helpful. Currently I am only using the BIND button for Reverse but with the Mix I don't have to bother with the throttle.......it is always full throttle but it is momentary so I can reverse WITHOUT using throttle. Good video. Thanks..........

      I didn't actually "work it out" to be fair...I may have worked through it on camera for you all, and was planning to work it out, on my own, but a few others kinda beat me too the chase on this one, namely, Andrew_FlyGuy was the one that really forced my hand ;) I follow his stuff on Instagram, and it came up on my feed. I didn't do it like he did, but I did see his post. Thanks Andrew! Don't mean to take anything away from him.
      I had it on the agenda, but we got so busy, and after setting this up a couple times on other planes, I was like...WHAT AM I WAITING FOR?!?!??! It's so easy, and I LOVE the F-16 80mm - gotta be my favorite plane right now.

  • @troy9er

    I built an F-16 years ago then EDF’s were really just starting in the electric planes. This one war powered by a pusher configuration. I was powered by a Himax 2000 KV motor with a 6X 5.5 pusher prop, very fast on 3S 2100 mah packs. I think the WS was about 22+ inches. Not real big but what a blast to fly and belly land in the grass. Wish I had more video on that plane.

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Normally I can pull some nice landings with my Maule and the Air Tractor right up until I try the flaps. The overall feeling of the planes change so much and I’m bouncing down the runway. Eventually I will get it but I find myself having to full throttle, turning the flaps off and coming around again without them to do a decent landing.

    I put the reverse thrust on a spring switch top rear right on DX8. Simple and no question when it’s on or off

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад

      For me, it's not so much knowing if it's on (reverse) or off (forward), but the mechanical steps to move the throttle sick forward full throttle when landing. With practice, this would be a non issue, I suppose, but in the mean time, we've worked out a simple "pilot fatigue" setting.

      I've never used a 6000mAh, so have no idea. I used 5000mAh, 7000mAh, and maybe a 4000mAh. I'd go with whatever you have, since there's room for a large battery, OR batteries, you can pretty much decide what you want for getting the weight far enough back to get the CG where you want it for flare on landings.

    Question: Helicopter style reverse/forward.
    Could you show how to make a mix for the throttle to be 50/50 with center being neutral. Then +neutral is forward thrust and - neutral is reverse thrust.
    Also being able to put it on and off so you could still have 0-100% forward thrust as normal or the 50/50 mix on a Switch.

    My advise would be never hit reverse until you're 100% down and rolling... the idea here is to shorten the roll... looked like you hit it as soon as it touched down on the second bounce which was obviously a bad one. As for the gear... it's amazing! Can't believe no other damage was done! That hit hard! My maiden landing i missed the road and landed in tall grass which was enough to bend the nose gear axel.
