Man, I guess the director forgot about The Flash on the CW. A show that has nine seasons, and a few crossovers within the Arrowverse. Along with the Flash being in several Justice League shows and a few Batman shows to boot.
The Flash was my favorite DC character as a kid, but I refuse to even watch this movie because of the actor, pure and simple. It sucks that this will kill any future Flash projects when it could still be really cool, especially if they stick to Flash and don't try to cram a bunch of other DC characters into it.
@Ken_Scaletta I saw it but I didn’t see it for Ezra miller I didn’t see it in theaters I didn’t want to give him my money but I watched it to see Keaton and that’s the only reason why. But I said right away they should have put the flash tv show actor they wouldn’t have to film anything new just get the likeness of his face and digitally put it on millers and then redub the audio instead they reshot a lot and spent over 300 million
The Flash was awesome. It's by far the best DC movie. If you're a fan, it's a must watch. I don't care what anyone says. Ezra is a quack but the movie itself was fantastic.
Maybe the reason Flash failed cause it was Flash's first movie and they IMMEDIATELY jump to doing Flashpoint. No Grodd? No Captain Cold? No Reverse Flash? The Flash movie served as the cinematic introduction to the character after people got to know him through television shows like Justice League and CW's Flash, essentially what Tim Burton's Batman was to Keaton's run as Batman. Now imagine if Tim Burton's take on Batman didn't have The Joker, arguably his greatest villain. Well then where the fuck is Flash's villains? What the fuck were they smoking!?! The story of Flashpoint even DIRECTLY INVOLVES THE REVERSE FLASH, YET WHERE THE FUCK IS HE?!? That's why the movie failed, because it failed at the very premise of what a first outing to the theater should be for a superhero like Flash, its why Shazam, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman actually got it right. But nope, instead we get...General Zod and a Groundhog's Day plot... I know you probably don't watch many of the less mainstream animated movies, Adam, but give Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox a watch, it pulls off Flashpoint in a much better way.
It's a dumb thing to be bothered by, but it irritated me that they went so far as to not just resurrect dead people, but fully (and admittedly) create a fake person to be Jay Garrick rather than go to Grant Gustin or anyone from the Arrowverse. And I'm not saying that the Arrowverse is the greatest thing DC ever made (obviously), but it kept DC in the public consciousness while their movie division floundered and was a lot of people's entry point into the better aspects of the lore.
The Flash is very popular. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Flash are the top characters in the DC universe. I think if they followed the Flash point story correctly, it would have done better, the animated movie was awesome.
its easier to explain box office-- theaters take half box office on average, studio gets the other half. so if the box office is $270 million, then the movie studio gets $135 million out of that... so there you go. Mega flop.
The movie was surprisingly fun AND funny of all things, so, you're missing out. Stop listening to people and watch it, you'll lose 2 hours of your life in much worse ways.
I liked The Flash also Adam !!! Except the cameos at the end. Disastrous. Fortunately, there is Sacha Calle. She blew my mind as Supergirl. Damn, I hate James Gunn so much for dismissing her !
Totally agree with this chum's assessment. Why buy a ticket for the Titanic when you're standing in line to buy a ticket and Nostrodamus comes up and says This Ship is Sinking. Or in this case....NostrADAMus.
I was going to say the same thing about the show having several season….9 to be exact….thy should have gone with Grant Gustin instead of what’s his face!
They should have apent more time in other universes instead of just looking at them through a time window. Bringing back 89 batman was the best part. My next favorite part was dark flash fighting to win over and over and never being able to. They could have added him going to other universes on his own to recruit other versions of batman and then Nick Cage superman. The whole thing looked like a playstation 2 cut scene. That was distracting garbage. They spent too long setting up stuff the audience should have already known about. Spent too much time with young barry and building up to the last fight. They could have cut the super girl breakout scene by half the time and added some of the other parts. Super girl's fight scenes were good and the two flash team up scenes were fun. It just needed more batmen and another superman or two in there bashing heads. Making the main bad guy Zod again was interesting but they should have used the chance to reveal the Lex injustice league getting into the action. Could have been a much better movie. Ezra ended up making a terrible flash. Besides his offscreen grooming behaviors and violence towards women, he was just a neurotic schizotypic rambling jittery mess with his delivery. Having 2 of him on screen grated my nerves. I wish the movie had performed better so that we might get to see other legacy hereos suit up again, but the dceu was raken off life support before this movie even came out. Nobody was interested at that point. Flahpoint was one of my original favorite DC storylines that I felt distiguished itself from Marvel in a way that rivaled even the best Marvel sagas. It's a shame it was wasted on Ezra Miller. I would go back in time and visit a parallel universe where this movie was an entertaining blockbuster hit if I could. Dark Sied could have showed up at the end and set up the JL2 and the DCEU would have been rising as Marvel was declining. Hopefully Marvel will improve because DC is too slow to put out content to stay as relevant as they need to be for people to pay 65 dollars to go see a movie.
So I guess they want to wipe clean the fact the Ezra was on a rampage of questionable crimes and had run ins with the law… ok… lol that could be a reason it also bombed… plus it looks terrible and his Flash is goofy as hell. I watched Flash on CW and love Grant Gustin’s Flash… so I had zero interest in seeing Ezra as Flash…
The Flash is a very hard character to do right, because he has a LOT of OP nonsense powers, and he's really stupid as a person, i.e. he does not use most of his special abilities most of the time, and does not even do the most basic planning for his hero-ing. They wasted that stupid hospital scene, and its set up, explaining how the Flash needs calories to power up, and then they never use it again in the movie, because they concept is dumb, and better for a TV show to joke on, for some minor threat, than an actually serious top-tier hero issue. In addition, why would he not carry lots of calories with him at all times ? Its not like a candy bar or a sandwich is a budget buster, or too big to fit in a backpack, and as we see in the movie, he actually needs very little calories to get all the serious business done. In fact, why would this Flash loser EVER let some snooty barista make him food, or any normal thing he could do himself, when he can just do it in milliseconds. Its not unlike the Zootopia scene, where they use a hopelessly slow sloth bureaucrat for license records as a joke, you know, DMV is slow, ha ha, but here its not played for laughs, and its nails on chalkboard bad. The opening scene is supposed to get us into the movie, but instead its used for a bunch of bad taste humor that falls flat. Time travel is the 'press A to win' of super powers, and the Flash ALWAYS uses this power, either to slow down time by running or thinking fast, or to literally rewrite it, and if you are going to use it, it kind of needs to be the focus of the entire movie, like Groundhog Day, or just to 'it was all a dream' Deus ex Machina that sh!t at the end, like Reeves Superman 1, and not as a setup to get us to a lame alternate timeline, and do a bunch of nonsense that won't matter at all, because it was immediately obvious he should just press control-alt-delete on the DC-Zod-verse. What good is saving your mother, when the whole Earth has no heroes and is overrun by super powered conquerors ? The real problem with focusing too much on the Flash is that he CAN ALWAYS just press A to win against any non-speedster, and if he even just knew all the weaknesses, or had access to Batman's contingency plans, 90 % of all problems could just be one-shotted. Also, the flash can pull someone's internal organs out of their body using the speed force to phase through them, which he HAS done in the comics, so there is literally no enemy he could not just insta-kill, if he got serious and stopped playing nice, and this movie was SUPPOSED to have one of his many evil versions, so why not just do that ? Probably because MASSIVELY OP characters are no fun to watch, which is probably why this kind of Flash movie doesn't work. Honestly, no Flash movies work, but at least it sort of makes sense when he does not just kill a dork like captain cold, and he gets taken down because he underestimates his opponent so much, but that should not be the case with Zod, even Superman usually just kills Zod, because its the obvious solution, and you can't just put him in prison...
I know a lot of people who didn't go to see it to protest Ezra Miller... on both sides of the political divide. Anyone who watched "Catch me if you can" knows about Barry Allen.
I was excited to the Flash I really was then the whole Ezra fiasco came about and it got pushed out then I didnt really care and got excited about it anymore cause of it.

As another person who actually (overall) enjoyed this film, I 100% agree that it is WAY too long. It also shoots itself in the foot with a terrible "multiverse" depiction at the end. It's not just that those effects stink like rotten eggs: It's that Batman and Supergirl were so surprisingly fun to watch, and then they're just 'left to die in a time loop'. It seriously makes re-watching the film less than enjoyable, which is exasperated by its overall length. If I could watch the film skipping all the "multiverse effects goo" nonsense, it would probably be a much more enjoyable film, and 20--30 minutes shorter. And then there's crazy pants Ezra. I applaud you that his real life antics didn't taint your enjoyment in any way. He did a good job acting in the movie, but it's hard to just ignore what a NON-HEROIC clown he is in real life.
Despite The Flash being one of the biggest shows on CW for 8 seasons, no one knows him
People WANTED Grant Guston
Pretty sure Ezra being a psychopath made turned people off.
Didn’t he make a burrito in that microwave, too? I was so dumbfounded by so many things in that failure of a movie.
DCEU was never gonna be the MCU because they rushed things, didn't take time to build the universe.
They were also just late the party. Man of Steel came out a year after the first avengers.
Man, I guess the director forgot about The Flash on the CW. A show that has nine seasons, and a few crossovers within the Arrowverse. Along with the Flash being in several Justice League shows and a few Batman shows to boot.
Saying the Flash isn't Popular is one of the DUMBEST Things I ever Heard in the Comic Book Universe.
Being a DC fan can be so frustrating. They have the best superheroes, but they fumble most of them so poorly in live action.

Also, they never resolve Flashpoint. They leave Flash's mom's murderer a mystery because he needed to fight Zod? Nonsense.
Flashpoint is an inherently bad story anyways
It failed cause the main character was actively being a criminal which literally became the press tour.
That spy...bird(?) went from parrot to crow in...a flash 😂
Cant believe its almost been 2 years since this came out.

Aquaman was so successful because he was the household name of the justice league and not the butt end of all the jokes.
Uh... What?
