You could make a Hike-opoly game for AT mishaps in Maine: --Get charged by a moose --See a bear cub (is mom nearby?) --River crossing impassible --Your ride gets a flat tire --Can't climb Katahdin due to excessive winds --Missed the season for boat across the Kennebec River. Great seeing you and Chet out there. And Happy New Year!
So cool for you with your game/biz. I’m retired now, but back in my day I published a periodical that was printed in Vegas. Figured out it was cheaper to go PU once a quarter than to ship. That was always headed in Ca south down 395 in the valleys of the PCT or in winter the other way. Fun times exploring while picking up our print order.
So glad the water crossings didn't give you trouble. Chet, you rocked the pit crew! 💪 I live near the end of the Saco River before it empties into the ocean, and it's still very high. Very cool adventure ✌️
So happy to see your games are doing well. Always great to get Chet in front of the camera too. 3 miles done, 84 to go. If you do them, great, if not, your choice. Happy holidays to all and thanks fo3 always taking us along, Maine is so beautiful 😊
I hiked this about 2 weeks ago. Came in from the road crossing and hiked in about 5.5 miles before turning around. I was thinking "what water crossing?" and then I saw you got to the little bridge bit over the stream. There were over 40 blow downs, hopefully the maintainers will come through soon. (I am going to the maintainer meeting in February)
I am starting to watch your vlogs as I prepare for vlogging my AT journey this year. I look forward to hours of enjoyment especially as I hope to be on a 120 day pace, same as you. Thank you for your videos!!
I thought for sure that when Chet came on, he was going to say he saw a moose just after you said you were scared of seeing one! Just think, the trail you were just on will be soon filled with the class of 2024 starting their trip north. How time has a way of slipping by. Great video!
BTW I feel your pain with that tire. I hit a pot hole last winter in MA and it blew out the tire. Those scissor jacks they give you with new cars are pathetic. That was the worst part it took like 10-15 minutes cranking that stupid thing and it was freezing and at night thought I was going to get frostbite. And BTW Paul didn't fix that tire you must have got a brand new one because damage to the sidewall is not repairable. Or if Paul did put a patch you better get a new tire because it's not safe like that
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Taylor and Chet! Chet was a great surprise despite the bad news. 😭 . Crazy weather there! Glad all turned out well. Thanks for the special adventure in Maine!
Drone footage! Didn’t see you carrying one but they are small. That’s a cool added touch. Maybe some one thru hiking this year will see this and take one with them. Happy New Year!
Good video. Good to see you back on the AT. Interesting hiking shoe, Saucony. I had not heard of them before. These are mid cuts, how was the fit around the ankle bone? I have found that alot of the mid cuts rub on the ankle, but these look to have more padding then typical mids?
Just placed my order. How cool that you and maybe your mom( part of this cool game? ) could sign it to. I use to XCountry, downhill, and snowboard when I lived in Vermont many years ago. As the say there, This is God’s country! Oh and yes I’ve been called a flatlander too😂. It has been said you have to be a 5th generation in Vermont to be a true Vermonter! 😮. I still love those days hiking, swimming in the streams, ice fishing, camping etc. I truly do miss it but hey it’s 60 degrees down here in Florida and I’m about to watch another rocket off in about an hour. Thanks Taylor 😊👍. Maybe too late but please if you could make out to The Mighty Quinn! That would be great. If to late no worries
Your Maine hiking does seem a bit cursed. 😜🤷🏻♀️ (BTW: I pretty much bumped into a moose hiking in the winter once. I was walking near an icy creek looking down at my feet to avoid slipping. Looked up and there was a moose about 4 feet from me eating some willow. Luckily it was a cow. She looked at me. I looked at her. She just kept browsing but slowly continued on her way.)
It's sad that many cars nowadays don't even come with a small donut spare- just a can of fix-a-flat. That wouldn't work on a sidewall gash like that and the car would be stuck.
If you're worried about it, you can get run-flat tires such as the ones by Continental. I've gotten used to driving a car with no spare. I keep spares at home, at my business, and at a daughter's house. I've had just one flat in the 114K miles I've had my current car. A total of 3 flats this century, in well over a half million miles. One was a slow leak from a nail, didn't need a roadside tire change. So really 2 times I needed a spare, including once in my spare-less current car. Still wasn't a problem, the rim rode on the flat tire OK at low speed for the 4 miles I was from home. Drove home, changed it in 5 minutes like a NASCAR crew takes 5 seconds to do. I have AAA with the 200 mile towing option, but have never had to use it. Another good option is to get an Uber to where you keep a spare, or taking you to a tire shop with your tire. Then an Uber back, and you're in business. There are enough scenarios where having a spare tire doesn't keep you from getting stuck/stranded, that you have to be prepared to deal with getting help for a breakdown in some cases anyway, and adding a flat tire to the list of things where you need help, isn't that big a deal to me. So, I could use a spare about every 10 years, and over half the time don't absolutely need it. Another fraction of the time, having a spare with me puts me in a dangerous situation changing it roadside. I'm 66, so I probably will only miss my spare 1 or 2 more times before my kids take the keys away, lol. The space and weight saved by having no spare is significant. Tires are WAY more durable than they were when I was young. I'm OK with calling for help if needed. Even outside of cell service, I have a satellite communicator that I keep activated, and a satellite phone which I rarely bother paying to activate anymore.
Very few people can make a thru-hike in 120 days. That's an amazing 18 miles a day. Considering you take multiple side excursions not to mention zero days means a lot more miles and a lot more time. Anyone making a thru hike avoids side trips like the plague. You are giving a lot of people encouragement to attempt something that is beyond their capabilities that can be dangerous for them. How many blue blazes did you follow? But even if you took them all it would be tough.
Didn't care for the idling of the car while you were recording your ad for a "science backed product" while there is science backed information on the harms idling your car does.
@Jes12G4L- Don’t be offended by this, but I really think you need to get a life if you are worried about Taylor’s car idling when it’s freezing outside… To be honest, you got to be kind of goofy to make such a comment…

Chet!! Awesome job adding content! Great adventure you two. Was a very fun watch.
What a nice surprise! Thanks for sharing with us and congratulations on the new board game!
Loved the video. Glad you sold games and glad you got your tire fixed. Thank you for sharing. Happy New year.

Thanks for bringing us along. Loved seeing Chet with ya . Moose safe!!
Stay safe out there! Happy New Year! Keep charging!
So happy to watch this section, as I'll be doing it soon! Was a little nervous about the water and now I'm not! Glad your game is taking off!!!
A beautiful winter hike. Enjoyed seeing the 100 mile wilderness so barren and empty of people and leaves. Glad the water crossings were good to you!

Very pretty hike, thanks for sharing. Chet popping in was great too. The realities of travel. 😊
Good to see you Chet! Even if it was because of a bad tire.😂
Loved the drone footage towards the end of the hike.
It was cool chet found me with the drone!
Chet-cam! Good to see you out hiking again!
Crunchy trail! Great to see your video!
Oh wow!! Chet!!! He surprised us all!!
Merry Christmas to us!! 😂❤

Great seeing Maine in winter, glad the water crossings were not a problem. So fun seeing Chet in this one. Thanks for sharing another adventure!
Happy new year 🎉 ✨️
What a cool idea with the board game 👍 wow no snow that far up in Maine that’s surprising !
So little snow in New England this year so far...all rain. :(
Trust me, as a Mainer I'm loving this no snow! Bring on the 1st day of spring quickly!!

Good to see you and your videos, wish you good moments and amazing adventure 🤘🍻💯
I live in Waterville, in the kennebec river valley, and we lost our roof to that storm. Stay safe out there!
Oh no! We noticed that area got hit hard when we drive through. That's so scary
Any day is a good day for a hike. 🥾
We got some Chet vlog and some drone shots. Nice little winter walk.
Maine ruined one of our tires when we were section hiking the hundred mile last summer.
Are you ever going to have any of your Hike-opoly games again ?
Good to see you Taylor; Happy New Year to You and your Family. ❤🎆❄
you finally hike with hubby and geez what a break you get flat tire
That was a great video with cold and adventure including Chet and his adventure. Glad you're both ok 🎉Have a great New Year. 😊
Love seeing your hiking adventures. You and Chet are the cutest couple! ❤❤❤

I don't know why, but I love watching you hike the AT! I definitely think you should finish the 84 miles!! 😊
This season the leaves lack green.12:31 / 12:31
Is there such a thing as a noise maker like they have for bears to scare the moose away?

Yes, and go for a hike and visit moosehead lake!

Do you think Maine will ban you because it rains so much when you come.

Isn't it still within a year of this year's thru-hike? If you keep doing these tiny hikes, maybe eventually you'll get those miles down to zero, heh!
