Hey man so I've been doing self-taught producing myself and I really like your channel I've been I've been following your stuff and you can help me out a lot now my question to you is these are all great plugins but what order would you use them in what order you you use them in person like what would be your first choice that you would put on a vocal mix and then second and then for mastering what would you use to master the book was all down at the end?
I usually clean up my vocal first (get all the unwanted breaths and stuff out). Then I start with a De-Esser to get rid of any sibiliance. Then I got to my compressors, and then reverb + delay.
Pitch Correction (WavesTune or Realtime) -> De-Breath (Waves DeBreath) -> De-Esser (Waves Renaissance DeEsser) -> EQ (Waves EMO-D5 Dynamics) -> Compressor (Waves CLA-2A) -> Saturator (Abbey Road Saturator or J37 Tape) -> Delay (H-Delay) -> Reverb (H-Reverb). If you want some kind of all in one, apart from the CLA Vocals, I prefer the Waves Butch Vig Vocals and Waves Greg Wells Voicecentric.

@@EdwardSmithMusic Edward I'm very basic in knowledge when it comes to recording, I would love to accomplish something solid before this pandemic ends, vocal chain to stay with and master, very impressed with your set up I must say, I have yet to try it out, but can't wait to do so on my reaper 6 daw, which I'm also still getting use to, is there any chance you will do a tutorial in detail regarding aux sends and bussing, I see when you were using waves HDelay you were not opening the effect within your vocal track but on a separate track altogether and sending the signal from there to your vocal track, also would you reccomend recording doing a few vocals and layering or just try get one good one 🙄🤔 thanks again for your excellent tutorial and advice

Edward I had to get back to you with regards to you vocal chain advice and very valuable at that, I tried your layout on a song I'm working on now and wow it worked brilliantly for me, I even sent the delay and reverb to separate tracks, so just to re-cap, you say firstly use a simple eq then next add the vocal rider, then ssl stereo, H compressor using parralell preset, then H delay using ping pong and decreasing feedback, then Rverb, I used waves rverb,
is it the waves Rverb you use, mine looked different to what your using, but all in all it worked, what would you suggest using on the master channel if anything, your the best! Thank you
Use a standard compressor on the master channel (nothing crazy). The only thing you need to keep in mind is that your plugins work in a chain effect. Which ever plugin you put first is going to be in effect before the next one. So for example, if you use a reverb first then a compressor, your going to compress a reverbed piece of audio. Or if you use a delay then a de-esser, you are going to try and remove sibilance form a delayed audio single. My point is that you need to focus on doing the clean up first, then adjust compressors and then only add extras like reverb + delay. The more you do it, the better you'll understand. GOODLUCK!

I'll eventually get going on the right track, I didn't get a chance to browse your RUclips videos and playlists yet, due to spending hours to no end going over and over and over my song, found out this evening my gain knob on my focusrite was set too low by me, around 8 on the clock, which meant I was recording to low, so now I have to go back and do vocals again,
I was trying to go by another you tuber and keep my recording level between - 12 and - 18 , but its plainly obvious now from listening to my song this was wrong and set my gain on my interface to about 10 on the clock, ahhh the joys of it all Ed, I'm fit to be tied 😉
i had no idea how powerful anything could be but HOLY SHIT chris's plugin is INSANE; that compressor is sexier than Danny Devito in a bathing suit. i wish i didnt just spend all my money on a new camera lens, otherwise i would pick that up so quick. yet another amazing video, man! cheers!

On the ss channel that’s the filter section the compressor is on the other side at the top. U gave that track a high pass filter instead of compression.

6:59 that's a hi-pass filter, not a compressor. The compressor is the section to the right of that labeled "dynamics"

I use cubase 9 pro. How does REVelation Match up against R-verb in your opinion? ModMachine is a SICK stock delay, and curve eq is clean. I’ve never used waves stuff but I know a lot of ppl do. Does it really make the vocals sound shinier/brighter?

Once again someone is spreading misinformation about a plugin. The Vocal Rider does NOT automatically keep your vocal above the music UNLESS you use the side chain function. KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT BEFORE YOU OFFER HELP!
Love your channel but do we really need that annoying background music while you talking. very distracting and un necessary.
