I just pulled the trigger on a Sigma 56mm. I’ll be taking it on a pro shoot this weekend. Early testing is just like the reviews; fast auto focus and excellent bokeh!
I have this lens and for portraits it is indeed quite good! I do however miss sharpness for action pictures. What lens would you advise here? I use a Sony a6000 and mainly shoot pictures of my dog
I bought this lens when it came out, used it, but I was buying lenses at the time... hungry for new stuff. Now fortunately only half a dozen lenses down the track I have halted my buying and have this lens back on my camera. I like it... it's easy to understand, works brilliantly with my 6400. I think it'll stay on for a while as it is winter here. It's great as a portrait lens, nice and creamy. It's the whole thing I like for my purpose, I can bag it on a train and not fear the loss so much as a FE with a big G on an A1 which I'll likely never afford. Great price point for this lens, value & utility. & the other thing about the aps-c with this 50mm is weight, comes in at a good weight for a camera (the 6400+the 50mm+flash), feels good in hands, I have the "little" SONY flash hvl-f20m that's what she said, it feels fun and not too obtrusive for street, though what is these days, what with cameras everywhere looking down and up at us all... what of a camera in hand? Did I write all that... this reefer is good reefer. Thanks for your great shows, I comment for your algorithm.
Im new to photography and have an A6100 with 55-210 zoom. Even though portrait shots are good on zoom, somehow the Aperture value of 4.5 to 6.3 messes up the detail in my images. Love your review and this is shortly going into my lens collection!!! Thanks a ton brother❤
Hey 👋🏾 Stefan I’m a new beginner & I brought a Sony NEX 7 for $300 & it was like brand new out the box & it came with a 18-55 mm lens & the hood & I wanted to know which lens would be more compatible with my camera between the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 lens lens or the OSS version that you’re reviewing? Because I need to know which lens would give me better quality video than my 18-55mm kit lens for my NEX7?
Thanks, great stuff. I own this lens and enjoy it. Quick question please. I'm considering the new Sony ZV E10 to use in low light video. Would you recommend this lens for video, low light or otherwise? TIA.
Did you consider different background for sharpness test? I always have trouble to judge on my own how lenses perform. Maybe some signs in center and corners could improve your test. Regards. PS Maybe Greeks to be different from others lens testers? :)
Hi Stefan, I was looking to get some info on this lens as bought it recently and it might not be the best for me. I shoot cooking videos and it seems to me this lens is too zoomed in.. am I doing something wrong? You said you won’t recommend this lens for shooting some moving fast like sports and all.. anyway, why is this lens seems so close to the object?? When I tried to shoot today, wanted myself and the food in one shot but couldn’t get that all in.. so you have any suggestions?? Please help!! Thank you so much!!! 💕
it's not plastic like you say, it''s a light metal (sort of aluminium).. same as the 20 2.8 and 35 1.8 oss... when it's cold outside it feels very cold in the hand... different than my G master lenses witch are totally made of quality plastic including the 100-400 witch look like metal but it's not :-)
I have a full frame Sony alpha 7s III. Can i use it with 50mm F1.8 OSS Sony E lens? I really want that image stabiliziation woth this oss lens. The FE has no image stabilization.
Hey man! I just picked up the a6400 with a 50mm f1.8 oss and I’m having problems understanding something. I’m trying to shoot macro, but after I zoom in, the pic is taken normal, with no zoom. I don’t know how to shoot it without having to crop. Any ideas? Thank you!!
What is your go to aps-c portrait lens?
Viltrox 85 mm 1.6 :,-)

@@standhd what is the verdict ? Sigma or Sony ?
@@kzugaming4287 Sigma! Awesome lens!
Just ordered as my second lens. Thx!
Not even a full minute into the video and he already answered the main question I had. Thank you so much!

Awesome to see a more recent video about this lens! Good to see it still holds up

FE indicates Full Frame with E mount, bro😊

Extremely well-produced video friend. Great work!
Would you consider it for video use with an A7iii? Thanks.
With oss this is the perfect lens for me in low light
Pretty nice lens. Your reviews are great. Thank you for your hard work.
The video editing is excellent.
This lens is perfect in low light, pair with A6500 A6700 so OSS + IBIS give you very good handling, I can shot 1/8 easily.
Hey, I hear you said not good for fast moving but as far as vlogging, TikTok , youtube videos it’ll be great??
Not wide enough for vlogging. Look into something around 20mm
@@StefanMalloch ok great!!! Thanks for the suggestion!
great video!! i think i might get this lens
do you think this is better than the 50mm full frame lens?
Yeah, it is, but if you want to buy full frame camera in near future, then go for FE lens

Spoiler alert.. I have a real deal on the way!
Great review!

From another beginner, you may need a different focal length for what you are intending
@@eduardohernando2849 thank you for advice!! 💕
Try 35mm
would you say this lens is too zoomed in for a top down desk shot for product reviews / unboxings?
Probably but depends on your space.
Great review, Sony e 50mm f1.8 or sigma 30mm 1.4 for sony a 6000 ??
I have the sony 50 and im getting sigma 30 or viltrox 23 for my mid
Very professional and detailed, thank you!

That's a crop lens for one. You have IBIS + Active IS in the S3 so I would go with a better IQ FF lens.

This is not a macro lens.
You would need the FE 2.8 50mm Macro lens or the FE 2,8 90mm OSS G Macro
So can I zoom with in and out with this lens.?? Please help
the cameras have digital zoom, the lens doesn't have optical zoom. check if your camera has "digital zoom or clear image zoom".
Does this fit Sony a7 camera?
50mm + 1.5x crop factor is 75mm not 85mm 🤔
Nailed basic math! 😂👊😜
Fuzzy math, close enough
Is it good for RUclips videos ?
Can work but a bit tight for indoors in some cases.
