      In joke yes. But that book was also available for purchase in our universe and Chapter 11 is where writer "Amelia Williams" broke the fourth wall in the book and talked directly to the Doctor.
      So it was a clue as well as an in joke.

    • @constanza86
      @constanza86 4 года назад +24

      @@siegeperilous At the beginning Clara was awesome. But since Capaldi took on the role of the Doctor, the writing went downhill and so at the end her character became meh. Mind you it was not the problem of Peter or Jenna acting skills. It was that BBC politics started to pour in to the show, poisoning it. So given the fact that this show was tilted towards liberalism, since the beginning, meant that it went way overboard. Rendering it unbalanced.

      @@yawmoght theres a difference between moving forward in 50 years and turning a great character into a whiny bitch. The whole thing about Clara getting cocky and thinking herself equal to the doctor despite being human is, in theory, a great overarching theme for her character. Bells of Saint John is such a mixed episode. It's fine overall, but as a companion introduction, especially coming straight after the _awesome_ introduction in The Snowmen, it just doesn't really reach the same height. It's understandable how much people wanted the past-Clara back over present-Clara, because even the Doctor doesn't really allow present-Clara to really have a proper moment like he did with the past version.

    Not sure is anyone pointed it out to you yet, but you know how there's a bunch of timelord words written on the top part of the TARDIS console? Someone decoded it and apparently each panel is the name of the Doctor's previous companions.

    I know this season/Clara's characterization in it gets flack from fans, but I personally found it a huge breath of fresh air coming off of s6 given how stuffed it was with plot and emotionally charged arcs. Never fully understood the Clara hate but I'm biased bc she ended up being my fav companion throughout her run.

    • @jessicaable5095
      @jessicaable5095 4 года назад

      Mainly the fact at how long she ended up staying I think, and how much importance the writer seemed to think she had. I think Steven had too much fondness for her and didn't know when to let her go so when she finally did a lot of fans let out a sigh of relief instead of being sad about it. Personally, I wish Victorian Clara had been the one to go off with him. I liked her much better tbh. Still, I'd take another season with Clara over another one with Jodie. Here's hoping Chris listened to some criticism

    • @alexnicole89
      @alexnicole89 4 года назад +1

      Jessica Emmas I totally get all this, my only remarks are that Clara only appears in 3 more episodes than Amy Pond, and Amy is often a fan favorite (although I do recognize that people also feel she stuck around too long as well, but that doesn’t seem to have any effect on fan favoritism).
      Also, that many companions during their run are given the Important treatment. I mean, Rose “Swallowed the Time Vortex” Tyler, Donna “Most Important Woman In All Of Creation” Noble, River “Literally Part Time Lord/Married To The Doctor” Song.... my point is that everyone loves those characters despite how ridiculously hyped up they were in their runs, but people don’t seem to extend that treatment to Clara.

    Aw, I love his purple jacket. And yes, I love Clara, too. She's such a change from Amy, who had such a nasty, self-centered streak to her that always got on my nerves. Clara's just *fun* and will be a good way to pull the Doctor out of his funk.

      Rings of Akhaten might be my all time least favourite episode of Dr. Who ever, it's maximum levels of cringe and kinda relies too heavily on nostalgia for series 1 (specifically episode 2 of that series, they're practically the same episode even). The Long Song is decent, but sadly is also cringe albeit cringe by proxy or by association. Also the speech? Don't get me started on the speech, it is the epicentre of all that is cringey and bad about Series 7 as a whole. It's the worst speech the Doctor has ever given. Ever. It tries way too hard, it doesn't tell us anything we don't already know about the Doctor not even the 11th Doctor specifically, and for what? Because the writers were like, "S**t we haven't done anything even close to interesting or new this episode, what do we do?" "I know! Throw in a speech that sounds like it was ripped straight from a moody teenager's diary and make it all about how tormented the Doctor is about the bad things that have happened to him or that he's done to others! Because we've never done that before!!!" "MY GOD, YOU'RE A GENIUS!" Boom! Done! Horrificly bad episode of Dr. Who
      P.S - Sorry I probably got a bit carried away there, but it needs said or I felt compelled or something, I dunno too late now I guess :P

      Also! Continuing the unoriginality of this episode, this is now the 2nd time we see an "evil" sentient/living star. The 1st time being in series 3 episode 7 "42", the only difference this time is that the star in Rings of Akhaten has a "scary" face and has some different abilities... Whoop dee doo!

      Liked Victorian Clara, and I even liked Oswin. Really wish one of them had been the full timer instead, that would have been way more interesting. Imagine, for one a modern set episode would be a trip to the future and for the other it would be to the past. Imagine the possibilities. Also, I think their characters shone a bit better. Modern Clara is just kind of... bland in comparison, at least by the end of her run.
      P.s. she had too many fake out exits, it did get a bit grating for a while
