    I did a 2.5 day trip on the top gun 80 with him. Such an awesome man. I was basically puking non stop for 3 night and was barely able to fish even though I tried as I was sick. He helped me hook one and donated a 100 bluefin to me. Legend!

    • @creakytiki

      You can use a high quality spinniung reel. Ti me, yellowtail are the UFC of local gamefish. I prefer a conventional with strong drags, but for paddies, an ocean spinner will also work. I would NOT use the spinner for yo-yo jigging, need more power to keep the yellows out of the rocks and off the bottom. Tight lines!

    Awesome video! I've seen a few deep sea fishing vids, and I've never seen anybody perform ike jime or bleed out the fish on an open party boat. Do you know if it's allowed? I did see another one of your recent videos and you bled the fish, cleaned it and stuffed it with ice, but that was a private charter from what I remember. Wondering if we can bleed fish on open party? My guess is the deck hands don't want to keep washing down the boat deck.

    • @Hook2Cook

      When a bait is butt hooked the drag from the line imitates bites from a predator. This causes the bait to swim down and away from the boat. Which is what u want. If you nose hook. The bait will go wherever. Every angler has their preference.

      @@creakytikiwould you recommend the Valiant 300 or 400 for a 30# set up?

    • @creakytiki
      @creakytiki Год назад +1

      @@rpw77 Hi RPW! Answer: that depends on a couple of things. 1). If you are fishing straight 30# braid to a short (5 foot or less) flouro leader, then my preference is the Valiant 300 (which now comes in either single or two speeds). 2).The 300 holds about 320 yards of 30# solid braid. If you DO fish the 300 with straight braid and no topshot, take extra 30# braid with you! Tangles and cutoffs can quickly leave you way short of line, especially with the mixed grade of fish that we are seeing out there. 3). If you want to have a mono topshot on your braid, or to hopefully have enough solid braid without taking extra line, go with the Valiant 400 2 speed. It holds a bunch of 30# braid. You could also pack it with 40# braid and use a 30# flouro leader, then bump up to 35# or 40# flouro if needed, giving you more versatility if needed.
      The above is assuming you will also be using the reel to flyline for tuna as well as for yellowtail. two years back, I was lucky enough to land an 88# Bluefin with the 9' Hercules SHS 90-9, Valiant 300 with 40# solid braid, and 35# flouro leader. I almost got spooled, but finally landed the fish, and since then fish 30# braid on the 300.
      BTW, I now always put a coat of hard Carnuba paste wax on my Accurate spools before filling them to help protect them from corrosion. Seems to really help, especially with a spool full of wet salty braid. Hope this helps!

    • @creakytiki
      @creakytiki 2 года назад +2

      I can see that it looked like I was not letting line out, but that isn't the case. The thumb is there with a REALLY light pressure when needed to keep excess slack out of the line and to help "keep in touch" with the bait, The bait still swims away from the boat with line going out as needed, just without a bunch of unneeded slack in the line. Done right, you can feel the bait swimming, when it gets super-active, and when it may have u-turned back towards the boat or died. Sometimes the drift of the boat is towards your bait when you are at the "end of the line" for casting in, and when this happens (or the bait turns and puts slack in the line), you gotta "backspool" line in until the slack is taken up. Tight lines!

      Butt hooking helps get the bait away from the boat and a bit deeper. Sometimes this really helps!
