My favorite North American places I've lived in are as follows: pre-pandemic SF, DC, & NYC, Massachusetts (Norwood, Newton, & Boston's Fenway Park Area), Connecticut (Stamford), British Columbia (Victoria Island), Texas (NW & West El Paso), North Carolina (Raleigh) & finally, Hawaii (Kauai & Oahu, specifically, Waikiki.)
Seeing those clouds is a welcome site compared to Phoenix and getting sun overdose
Peter - thanks for your videos. I have followed them for a while now. Like you, I love Hawaii and always feel at home when I am there. Your videos have been very helpful as I have thought of moving to Hawaii with my wife but your honest videos about what it would really take have convinced me it is not for me. 1) I think it would be difficult financially, even with an income of $100k per year, and 2) I think the distance from family, especially my two sons, would be too much. Thanks for your forthright insights and advice. I think you have helped me make the right decisions for me. I'll just keep visiting once or twice a year!!
I'm really glad this helped you! I have another video coming out on the financial aspect in Jan and really would like to get your take on that one.
@@livehawaii Look forward to it.
😁🤙 It’s all very true. When I lived there I knew I was home. Other people I was stationed there with literally hated it. I think because they were not friendly and were always in a big hurry.
I always am amazed by how Hawaii can be so polarizing
Hi Peter, great reminder, and you know me as the many times I have written Hawaii certainly is my favorite place to come to. Live? You mention isolation? How do people, especially if they come alone, deal with that? As you say, it's very slow. I would imagine the older you are, the harder it can be to meet people. Especially there? How did you make it?
Great questions Mike! I'll use those in upcoming videos
Btw I just produced a video all about isolation. Watch that if you haven't already
Nobody talking about the Mercedes parked perpendicular in the crosswalk? 😂🤦🏼♂️🙃
Lol didn't even notice!
Money is the main problem present day Hawaii.
It's simple.
Not enough of it?
No Hawaii for you.
Born and raised Hilo Side boy from the late 90s and 2000s eras.
For sure if you can't afford it that knocks you out. But having enough money doesn't mean you will love it either.
I love Hawaii, but I disagree with some of the info given on the video. People do honk their horns driving, some won't let you merge in traffic, some tailgate, along with speeding. And while most people are generally very friendly, some residents are also very rude and condescending as well. The paradise you describe, I recognize a lot of it, but some generalizations are just incorrect. The behaviors I describe don't make me less appreciative of the islands, but do feel that poor behavior needs to be pointed out as well. I've been to Hawaii countless times, I love going, and a lot of poor behavior is common throughout the country including Hawaii. Just being honest.
These are generalizations. You are pointing out exceptions by your own admission.
