Amazing lesson.. You guys are so generous in sharing. You make so less intimidating like we are all hanging out with our buds in a basement somewhere giving each other pointers. Keep rocking!
Holy light bulb moment. Jeff said A is SPELT and listed the notes. What an awesome way to look at memorizing the notes in a chord. If i look at it like a spelling bee for my younger students I think it will be a game changer. Thanks guys!!!!
Robert Lockwood Jr says in an interview with the Blues Wax on taptime app I think thats the name of the app. But anyways to the point. Lockwood Jr. Said that he developed that to accompany the harp of Little Walter to help Little Walter's harp sound better. And man does it ever. You said it yourself papastache, u can use it to accompany a singer as well. It sounds great. Robert Jr. Also said that he was like the 1st person who began using the electric guitar for blues music on some radio station I think it was in Arkansas somewhere around Turkey Scratch Arkansas where he was born. Maybe King Biscuit or something like that.
Ha- ha! I buy theirs courses and think they live on the another planet, but these lads are real and so simply good people, and without backing track they sound almost like I do, they give me a hope, I love both of them, welcome -welcome- welcome! Thank you, masters!
Who to listen to for blues rythym guitar: Robert Lockwood Jnr, Louis Myers, Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy Reed, Eddie Taylor... all great study. Listen to a lot of early electric Chicago blues, especially the guitar backing harmonica players...
Btw, the guitarist on my babe was Robert Lockwood Jr. He was the only person who was actually taught to play guitar by his mother's boyfriend. That boyfriend Was The 1 & only Robert Johnson King of the Crossroads.
Great value in this lesson. Thanks guys. Jeff is great. I'm following him on Truefire and he has boosted my way of comping... I'm still learning but now with a great reference. ;-)
Both great, Michael makes some of them best guitars you can get. The Strat in this video is from ‘64 so it’s a different kinda thing. I still play and love Michael’s guitars.
Papa remember I sent you a picture about six years back of Muddy Waters Jr. and me from the Little Walter Festival. Walter was raised in my town and we had the festival for years until the city counsel shut it down due to funding, they would rather spend the money on some two bit circle jerk City Counsel retreat meeting out of town and motel expenses instead of entertainment for the tax paying citizens. Little Walter’s daughter would show up every year in honor of her father, she is a real sweet, nice, caring person. I took pics of every DVD and CD I had that Muddy Waters and Walter ever made. I showed them to Mud Jr. and we took several pics together, he said man you have every DVD, CD, and record my Dad ever made, the least you could do is buy my one CD. I told him I did, I said I bought it off of Little Walter’s daughters husband while you were getting ready for your set, he looked at the CD and said, man are you kidding me, he sold you Walter’s CD, that’s some BS. LOL We all laughed and had a great time. I was going to ask to play guitar and harp with him but on his latest CD he has Kim Wilson from the Fabulous Thunderbirds playing. We all had a blast that day, B.B. King’s band performed and there was a guy from Houston in the band that celebrated his 93 birthday, he played for B.B. since the 1950’s. Great video and thanks for posting it. 🎸✌️
HA The title of this video is what I always say!! Ugh Im tired of playing blues!! Thats how I taught myself to play back in the day. With 3 four 5 other guys we used to jam regularly at all the keg parties and my moms bar. Then got pretty good at playing lead.. then a few years later leaving those guys because our drummer got really messed up in a bad car wreck. So from there we all went our seperate ways. Still jamming to the blues every blue moon. But, cover tunes and ORIGINALS is what came next. BUT damn after watching the beginning of this video, if I could play chords like the dude with the strat, I wouldnt be at all tired of playing the blues!! I play more like Poppa does in the beginning of this video,, Not that its bad Poppa but it does tend to get boring!! Now I am SUBBED just because of the 1st minute 28 seconds of this video. I just had to say that! Lemme stop blabbing now and watch the rest of this video and maybe an old dog can learn some new tricks!!! Thanks you guys!!
Bret, is papastache.com still active? I've placed an order and payed for it. I've received a thank you email and a PayPal receipt but no way to access the course. My emails to the site have not been answered
John, I had the same problem when I ordered from that site two weeks ago. No response to my emails & no way to access the course. I got a refund from my credit card company after filing a grievance with them. I learned the hard way, so I'm only purchasing stuff from brettpapa.com now. Good luck!
papastache102 Are you aware of the site he mentioned? After all, it is your likeness being used to sell product. Is it operating without your knowledge or consent?
@@bennysan101 Thanks for this info Ben. Very frustrating and he clearly won't help in any way. I'll take it up with PayPal. I certainly won't be purchasing anything from him.
The only thing I can say is if you want to find me I’m at brettpapa.com. If you ever need help there just let me know and we get you squared away. Thanks!

Id highly suggest Scott Henderson's jazz rock mastery DVD comes with the melodic phrasing one too. It's the best in the business.
Yep, great vid!
Well, yeah. It’s Scott Henderson! 🤷🏼♂️

What's that turnaround chord progression? Nice!!!
Jim H. It breaks down into a I7 VI7 II7 V7 I7. So in A - A7 F#7 B7 E7. 👍

Cool cool

Thanks!
1.50 surely C#-7b5 not C-7b5 as Jeff said.
Alan Howell good call!
Metal > Pantera. Otherwise best lesson on RUclips!
Thanks? Lol!
Man I want to play great rythm like this, but I suck at it!
Dalton Blair practice! That’s the answer! Take one idea and work on that, like nailing 2&4. Then build on that.
I'm working on it too! Want to up my rhythm game as well!
I've watched this 20 times already!! Can't get enough man, it's the BEST rhythm lesson I've ever seen or heard! Thank you Sir and Thank you Papastache for putting it all together
Muddy Waters was little Walters main guitarist pairing.
On some tunes yes. Louis Myers was one of the guys I meant. He’s playing was more what I was playing and referring to.
Didn't Buddy Guy play with him as well? Or was it before his time?
Louis Myers, Dave Myers and Fred Below were The Aces - they backed most of Little Walter's tunes...
What happened to Justin Sandercoes accent?
tifreire1 I’m older I believe, so we should reverse that question... 😜
@@JeffMcErlain I thought that was just part of the disguise haha. Seriously though, great lesson on rhythm dynamics. Thanks for doing it.
That a 64 Strat 👀
Or 65 👀
64
Paps too much fuzz
Can't help it! I love me some gain!
That tele sounds awful.
the supernatural If you like it fine, I don’t. Perhaps my hearing is little more selective than yours.
Blues is so boring. :(
Haha!
Blues isn't boring - only the players can make it that way!
