Honestly, how often do you carry a camera with the lens detached? Hardly ever for me. It would be better if you had the lens attached to the camera body and then see how they fit in those bags. That is practicality in reality.
The bellroy venture sling 6L is the best edc sling imo. It is by far the most usable, versatile and stylish sling compared to aer, heimplanet, alpaka, black ember, codeofbell, etc. This is the kind of sling that I can wear anywhere without being embarrassed by the looks of it. But it is not perfect in every way, if I had the chance to redesign it I would probably add an aqua guard zipper compartment on the back side to store my phone, passport, etc. The padding will just be moved to the back of the phone compartment. Since the front compartment is just too tight for a smartphone these days. The thing I really like about the venture sling is that it has a lot of pockets. But the pockets on the main compartment feels just like a slit pocket since it doesn't stretch which some people might like but for me I prefer a little bit of stretch for versatility. Adding an additional organization might be a great idea too especially a tech sleeve for an ipad or a bigger notebook. Nevertheless, this sling is definitely one of the best slings of all time but it is also one of the most expensive out of the bunch.
I couldn't agree more with you, I've been trying on all sorts of sling before i bought the bellroy venture 6L, this is perfect for what I need. as you said there's plenty of compartments, stylish, versatile, ykk aquaguard zippers, three year warranty and don't feel embarrassed of it's size this sling just ticked all the boxes for me, I definitely would say they should of added a zippered compartment at the back because phones these days are too big, this is the most expensive sling I ever bought but it's worth the investment. bellroy needs to make a tech sling for those EDC people, with stretchy pockets and more zipper compartments and to be more compact.
I like both the 6L and 9L but the larger one would be a bit bulky front carry. Of course the extra room in the 9L would be a plus. I tried out most of them at the shop but went with the 6L.
@@shersurewin that’s funny you say that. I’ve been torn for a week deciding if I should get the Day sling 3 or Venture sling 6L. I just want one to take it everywhere and not feel embarrassed.
I love the look of all of them, but picked up the 9L specifically for taking to theme parks and on vacation. I’m able to hold a battery pack, a charger, a cable, two water bottles (mine and one of my kids’), a pen and notebook, sunglasses, and a pocket tripod easily. I could probably pack in a poncho as well. If I was going for EDC and for myself I’d pick up the 6L in a heartbeat.
Thanks for your insight, Wes! As you explained, you can stow a ton of gear in the 9L, and it doesn’t feel like a bother. Does just the size keep you from using it as an EDC? -Eric
Love the look of all the slings and at one point had all three. I returned the 6L and 9L in favor of the 10L camera sling. (cost me almost $65 to ship back to Bellroy as they don't cover return shipping). I like to carry a mirrorless camera everywhere I go. The 6L is great for non camera edc, the 9L was great for either mirrorless camera carry or more EDC needs (ipad mini, sunglasses, etc). When the 10L was released, I jumped on it right away, and although it fits a mirrorless camera, 2 lenses and an Ipad mini, it's quite bulky, even with its lower profile. The extra padding is noticeable and useful, but I kinda wished I kept the 9L as that size was the sweet spot and slimmer. A 9L with a removable divider would be my ideal Bellroy Sling. Thinking about buying the 6L AGAIN for just EDC needs. I really like what Bellroy are doing, and making slings/camera slings that don't look like the boxy traditional slings that have been in production the past few years. BTW, also have the AER Day sling 3 Max Xpac and do like it a lot. It's a bitt taller in profile and slimmer, IMHO, and find myself using it more than the 10L when carrying my cameras. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your detailed insights on the slings! You’ve shared a ton of great info here. What is making you consider the 6L again? How do you find your camera fits in the AER Day Sling 3 Max? Again, thanks so much for sharing. -Eric
@@PackHacker2 Hey Eric, I just re-purchased the 6L as an EDC/no camera option. The AER max is really roomy and actually fits my Leica M11/with 35mm lens as well as an A7 lV with a prime lens. The only problem is that there’s no divider, but it’s not meant for two cameras. One Sony mirrorless camera with 24-70 GM fits great with room to spare. Aer and Bellroy make great products and I’m glad to support them. Take care!!
Why won't they add the quick-slide to the 9L, that would be the perfect combination!!! I am trying to contact them for a replacement strap for the 10L and use it on the 9L, hope they sell it
So happy that after watching comparison videos I'm still gonna stick with my 6L for urban carry! I never carry a water bottle since you can find water pretty much anywhere you go around Sydney. 'Corner gaps' is not an issue based on a few months of daily use under different weather (Sydney has been raining intensively in the past few weeks)
Great video. I have all of these plus the lite 7l. My ideal sling from bellroy would be a venture lite edition. So essentially a venture sling between 7 and 9l made with the lite weight material of the lite range with same organizational pockets found on the venture line.
Have you checked out Bellroy’s Lite Sling? It isn’t the same-but we dig it. Here’s the full review: packhacker.com/travel-gear/bellroy/lite-sling/ -Eric
Gone for the 9L over the others, plus I chose it over the PD 10L V2. The peak is more suited for my XT4 + 16-55 lens but it looks way more bulky, whereas I like that this compresses itself based on your carry. It feels like this works better as a low profile all round sling for camera carry and non camera days (I’m 6’3 so hopefully it still looks fairly low profile on me haha).
@@iam_nick For that combo, it would be more than adequate. After a few months, I've enjoyed using the bag - it's my everything bag for everyday life, and it survived some torrential rain in Paris. Overall, no regrets from this purchase - it's expensive for a sling but the build quality is well worth it.
I love all of the built-in organization! Really makes me reconsider my original Sling that's just a dump. I love the magnetic fidlock but the offset zipper really makes it tight to access everything if you're wearing it. I actually love that these zippers go all the way, and in practice I feel like the self-compressing would close the corner gap. If anything, they let you use that pop pocket to stand something up vertically and stick out, with the zipper just coming up to it. Messy, but still allows you to be handsfree!

For long urban adventures that last a full day I had to go with the 9l even though I like the minimalist look of the 6l. The 9l has the capacity to fit my 18oz water bottle and actually make use of the side pockets. With the 6l you would have to place thicker gear such as a gopro protective case on top of the water bottle and have it sliding around on top of the water bottle. I could have went with a smaller bottle but I think the potential to carry a larger bottle and actually make use of the side pockets for extra gear is a bit more versatile for longer adventures.

I have the 9 and the 10L and both close well over the opening. Was there an update to the bags, I bought mine in November 2023 and they close downward, there's no gap to be found, only if you do not pull the zippers fully down?
Further to my post below i decided to buy the venture venture 10L and try it out then noticed many camera forums mentioning broken buckles due to a manufacturing issue. Fingers crossed.
I like how the Bellroy Camera Sling sits quite low profile and snug against the body when filled with 1 FujiFilm mirrorless camera with a 18-55mm zoom lens, and a small point and shoot camera. However, I do find the outside pocket a bit tight to access where I store my small card wallet and an iPhone 11 max. Overall, I do like the design aesthetic of the camera sling and how comfortably it carries on my person.
I wish they made the 9L with the external gear loop from the 10L. If it had them it would be a perfect bag for a couple of nights away, or just around town. If anyone has any suggestions then please do let me know!
The "corner gap issue," pointed out in the review, was a deal breaker for me. I always seem to be in a rush, so despite the compression, I'd always be worried about something falling out or rain getting in. Why I went with the Trakke Largo instead of the 6L Venture. (Not sorry - love it)
@@PackHacker2 Hi Eric - I can't really speak to the material on the Venture, because I don't own one, but for the Bellroy bags I do own, the material feels much more coarse than Trakke's waxed canvas. Plus, for my carry, the Largo is really comfortable, unlike other slings that can feel like I'm wearing a rectangular box.
I have the pleasure of testing the Largo and agree-it’s incredibly comfortable! I can see how certain bodies may not agree with the Venture. Thanks for your insight 😃 -Eric
Been heavily waiting on you to make this video. Quick question, how big were those water bottles? Can 500-700ml water bottle fit comfortably in the 6L venture sling? And can you fit a iPad mini in there as well? I have the Aer day sling 3 kinda regret it since it doesn’t fit all my stuff and makes it look bulky.
500ml maybe, 700ml probably not. I have a Takeya 22oz and 24oz bottle and both were incredibly tight fits in the 6L and then there’s almost no way of fitting an iPad mini in there (I tested it with a Kindle Paperwhite, but similar enough in size). I’d recommend buying it from somewhere that has free returns so you can try it out.
I'm interested in either the 9L or 10L sling but I am a little bit worried about the quick release buckles to remove the strap. Would have wished they put some lock into the release or a 3rd button so you would have to operate it with both hands. So it's quite easy to unlock the strap when you wear the sling on your back. You probably should wear it on your front when in crowded places or on public transport anyways.
That's my main concern too. If someone went to snatch it off of me, there are only magnets holding the bag on! Or if it gets caught in a subway or bus door, it's not going to stay on me and I would rather be stuck in a door than lose my things.
Venture Great review as ever. I had problems seeing the size comparisons as you were wearing a black T-shirt and your lighting was insufficient to show the black 10 L and blue 6 L when you were wearing them. Good illustration of the ability to carry water bottles, what size were the Hydroflask and Camelbak that you used?
The two bottles are the following: Hydro Flask 12 oz Coffee with Flex Sip Lid - packhacker.com/travel-gear/hydro-flask/12-oz-coffee-with-flex-sip-lid/ CamelBak Chute Mag 20 oz Stainless Steel Bottle - packhacker.com/travel-gear/camelbak/chute-mag-20-oz-stainless-steel-bottle/ with the CamelBak Hot Cap Accessory - packhacker.com/travel-gear/camelbak/hot-cap-accessory/ -Eric
I bought both sizes expecting that the 6L would be enough for me. I was wrong. While the 6L does fit all my stuff, everything is more tightly packed together. It makes the bag fatter and more squished. The 9L is actually perfect. It spreads everything out. The pockets just fit items better. Also, because everything is spread out, it makes the bag thinner. I was actually planning on keeping both sizes, but just looking at them, I can't see a scenario where I would prefer to bring the 6L unless I was just carrying very small things.
Great review. After watching this it’s a big NO for buying one of these bags. What’s the point of waterproof zips when there’s gaps at both ends of the bag for water ingress ?. Also wide open to pickpockets if worn across your back in an area bustling with people whilst travelling.
The 9L didn't feel that huge to me in person. But I also don't pack it all of the way out unless I'm travelling and have something like a Nintendo Switch in it.
Thanks, you linked me over to this from your aer day 3 max review. I like how small they look for what they are and like the way they sort of cinch to be lower profile. How weather resistant is the material. Finding it curious that so many of these bags have pu coated zips only for part of the bag or don’t have as weather resistant material and wonder why. The pu coated zips seem harder to open and close but maybe that would make it hard for a person to subtly open it and take something. Still leaning towards 3 L aer day sling but I will keep going through your review of other options.
I'm trying to figure out if the OG sling could fit a 740ml Larq Water Bottle. I would prefer the OG over the venture for the compact size but I want to carry the water bottle
Please tell me the size of the Bellroy 9 liter sling bag. I want to know the height, width and thickness. I thought that the size of the homepage was strange, so I contacted the manufacturer by e-mail. The answer was 365 x 210 x 240. After that, I think the size is also strange. Therefore, I would like to know the size of the bag you are using.
I like my 9L, the only complaints I got is that I'd like the internal stretchy pockets divided more to the middle of the bag since its really hard to pull out a flashlight or a folding knife/multitool from especially the outer pocket. The main pocket has the same problem when Im storing pens on the side. The zipper on the outer pocket is too short to the sides and thus come in the way when I want to take stuff out. And the key lanyard is too short and would be better if it were made of stretchy shock cord.
I'm a little confused. The 6L version looks the same if not smaller than the 3L sling by Peak Design. Am I missing something or is the PD one bulkier from all the padding?
The padding probably has a lot to do with it, but the internal volume measurements aren't set to one standard, one company's 3L could be another's 6L (probably not that dramatic a difference but 1L give or take easily)
The black mini pen at 10:40 could be a Fischer Space Pen or a Rite in the Rain micropen. Not sure. The orange mini pen at 11:54 is definitely a Rite in the Rain micropen in blaze orange. 👍🏽 as a lover of pens, I’d highly recommend the Big I Design Ti Arto EDC pen in stone wash titanium (extra grippy). It’s much more useful since it take all the refills you can imagine. And it’s a very compact form factor, almost as small as the space pen.
I am returning the 10L camera sling. Clearly I should have paid more attention to the review as well as checking your website where this bag is list as NR (not rated). While the aesthetic and material are very good there are several things lacking as you mention. The padding is on the thin side, the fixed dividers are limiting, and there is no space for an iPad. I would also suggest that you confirm that this bag is 10L. I assume this is an approximation within a plus or minus, but it is physically smaller than other 10L bags I have from Peak Design and Moment. Perhaps you could look at the published dimensions for these three, or similar, camera slings whenever you do your next camera bag review. I appreciate the effort you and your team put into these videos. They are always excellent.
Hi! Great video! Can I demand 2 little things? I've read that there is 23 cm between dividers on 10L, but if you put down them (like around 8:40 min) you could have far more space, is it correct? My longest lens is 25 cm/10inch when mounted with my ML. Another question, if you put a lens vertically (around 19 cm) could I close the zip this 10L is too rigid? Thank you!!!
I am looking at the 6L for my Sony a6400 with 1 attached lens and an extra lens. Should be enough space by the look of it, but it doesn't have a divider like the 10l Camera version. Are there any options to keep the lens secure from the camera separately in the 6L other than the stretch mesh pockets on the side? Primarily the reason I am looking at 6L over 10L is because of its compactness of being able to put it inside a bigger backpack.
@8:41 how flat can those dividers be set on the 10l? It might be an optical illusion- but with layed down dividers it seems to provide nearly the same or even more room as the 9l. Am I right?
Weird question -> is it possible to hide them from the size under a wide Hoody to get additional bag space while traveling with the plane? So it would be a 'invisible' third bag at the boarding gate? 😁😇
I could see myself using the smaller sling for going here and there but I wouldn't feel.confident using any three as a camera sling. Maybe for a point and shoot but not a proper camera. Too flimsy.
I do not like zipper openings, it should be a lid that opens away from the body, some bags are designed so that the lid becomes a shelf where the gear can stand secure when you fx will change Lens or battery.
@@PackHacker2 just my humble opinion 😊. I prefer the organisation and overall feel of the peak sling. Option to attach cords on all sizes a huge bonus.
PD looks nice but even the 3L looks very large for what it can hold. I know there is more paddling but I really wish it was a little smaller and thinner at the cost of some padding

I think the difference in strap material in the 6L and 9L, is just based on the colorway selections.
Thanks for the insight 😃 We’ll see you in the next one!

Great point about the corner gap. Thanks.
Hi. Thanks for the excellent reviews. Do you think is possible to put in the 9l version a rain jacket and a water bottle?

Great review as ever. I had problems seeing the size comparisons as you were wearing a black T-shirt and your lighting was insufficient to show the black 10 L and blue 6 L when you were wearing them.
Good illustration of the ability to carry water bottles, what size were the Hydroflask and Camelbak that you used?
The two bottles are the following:

For the 10L, is there any zipper pocket at the back?
Thanks for the comment and sticking around, Chris! Be sure to check out our sling guide, too: packhacker.com/guide/best-sling-bag/

Does the 10L have padding at the bottom of the bag to give gear a little bit of a cushion from hard floors?
I can also recommend a flat water bottle instead of a normal one. It leaves more length and depth space inside the main pocket.
Thanks for the insight, Toni! 😃

For 10L, can it hold 1kg carbon tripod? Thinking to purchase this instead of Wandrd Roam Sling.
Hi. Is there any comparison video between Venture Sling 6L and Lite Sling? I can’t find. It’s hard to decide. Thanks.
I noticed that threads easily unmade, is that the case for all bellroy bags? That 9L version has loose thread in front
Glad you highlighted the zipper gap issue - that's really poor design and a dealbreaker for me.
Can the 6L also be used as a hip/fanny pack?
currently conflicted between 9L or 10L because im planning to bring nintendo switch/ipad aaand sennheiser hd450bt/sony xm5
Just read a review about a buckle snapping on a 10L version. They need to rethink the buckle.
Which one will fit a steam deck?
Does anyone know if the 6L would fit a Steamdeck? I know the 9L does but like the smaller profile of the 6L
Is the 10L padded, other than the dividers?
10L sling is an expensive bag without capability to fit Ipad 11” inside, that’s hurt.
Hi, this venture 9L version roughly can take how much weight?
9l is suitable for iPad Air 4 10.9inch?
Saw on their website they both hold 10” tablet but one said “mini” the other “ipad”. I have a 10” air. Would that fit in 6L?
What is that mini pen you have packed in the bag? Thanks!
Do you have a timestamp? Just to ensure I share the right one 😃
-Eric
The black mini pen at 10:40 could be a Fischer Space Pen or a Rite in the Rain micropen. Not sure. The orange mini pen at 11:54 is definitely a Rite in the Rain micropen in blaze orange. 👍🏽 as a lover of pens, I’d highly recommend the Big I Design Ti Arto EDC pen in stone wash titanium (extra grippy). It’s much more useful since it take all the refills you can imagine. And it’s a very compact form factor, almost as small as the space pen.
Tom, between the 6l and 9l which is the best to use as a diaper /dad bag
Did you ever buy one? I could use this advice
Wondering if anyone has used the 10L while cycling and how comfy does it sit on your back etc. Would love anyones feedback on this.
Can I know 10L can fit the iPad 10?
Will the Zhiyun Smooth 5s fits inside the 9L sling?
Hey man, does the 9L fit the new ipad air 2022?
no
And you can't put an iPad Pro on the 10l, bummer
I recognize this was posted a long time ago but just in case anyone knows and replies… will an AirPods Max folded flat fit in the 6L?
What wallet is that at 10:19?
@8:41 how flat can those dividers be set on the 10l?
It might be an optical illusion- but with layed down dividers it seems to provide nearly the same or even more room as the 9l. Am I right?
And if so- I would now understand the concept behind those dividers.
Can the 6L fit a switch ?
Yes, it can!
-Eric
Anyone tried cycling with the 10L "Camera Edition"? Does it remain stable or does it tend to swing around?
would an 11 inch ipad air fit in the 6L? seems like it might squeeze based on the online dimensions
No, it's a very tight squeeze even in the 9L
Weird question -> is it possible to hide them from the size under a wide Hoody to get additional bag space while traveling with the plane? So it would be a 'invisible' third bag at the boarding gate? 😁😇
Can an iPad Air 5th gen fit in the 9L venture ?
Yeah it can
where can i buy bellroy sling bag pls
top level of the eiffel tower, ask for francis.
I could see myself using the smaller sling for going here and there but I wouldn't feel.confident using any three as a camera sling. Maybe for a point and shoot but not a proper camera. Too flimsy.
Man is it me or would anyone else put on a white shirt to showcase dark color slings? Just a thought.
I want the 9L one
If you get it, let us know how you like it!
-Eric
@@PackHacker2oh yes, it's on route . Ordered the 9L ranger green
I do not like zipper openings, it should be a lid that opens away from the body, some bags are designed so that the lid becomes a shelf where the gear can stand secure when you fx will change Lens or battery.

Good comparison
Thanks for checking it out (again)! 😃

That is a horrible implementation of a pen slot in the 6L. Damn
🤘
Price is insane. With their leather goods Im cool, but with this range no.
Why can't we call these PURSES?
It's an European bag!!!
We won’t stop you 😃
use a dark shirt to show a dark color sling bag, is this for real?
Peak design slings wins hand down over the bellroy.
What makes you say that? 🧐
-Eric
@@PackHacker2 just my humble opinion 😊. I prefer the organisation and overall feel of the peak sling. Option to attach cords on all sizes a huge bonus.
PD looks nice but even the 3L looks very large for what it can hold. I know there is more paddling but I really wish it was a little smaller and thinner at the cost of some padding
