I found your pinto bean recipe just now - you had me at salt pork! I usually cut my slab of salt pork in little finger size chunks. I’m going to have to try the whole slab put in this time. I was going to find out if you were still around since this post is older. Glad to see you are. I’m going to try your pinto bean recipe in my PPXL. I haven’t used mine in a few years, but drug it out today and made beef stew. The meat was tender and so was the vegetables. I’ve subscribed to your channel now, and I hope I can find more recipes that you have posted. Jeanne in Texas
I LOVE our power pressure cooker xl and use it every week. I've never put tomato sauce in my pinto beans now will have to try your recipe. A tip for making beans, if you pre boil your water it will only take about one minute to come to pressure when starting. I just boil a tea kettle full while sorting and washing my beans. Thanks for the video 😁
Awesome tip. I will try that the next time I make beans. I usually just put diced tomatoes and not tomato sauce. The tomatoes and Knorrs Chicken bullion make it kind of like a bean soup. I love the flavor that the jalapenos add and it doesn't make it too hot as long as you dont add too many. I leave them whole so that I can take them out after cooking. Again, thanks for the tip and thanks for watching.
I’ve watched several videos of how to make my pintos the way my momma taught me and this video is the best. Exactly what I was looking for. First time using my pressure cooker so I appreciate all of the details of how it works and for how long. Wish me luck! 🤞🏼
I am so glad it was a help to you. When I cook them on the stove I use the same recipe, except I soak them the night before and cook them a lot longer, adding water as needed to keep them from drying out. Good Luck Mrs. Suarez and let me know how they come out for you. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
I use diff receipe, but I am going for an entire different flavor than this. I did like the idea though, and the jalapeño tip is so smart! Will be using that for many diff recipes. I really needed to get a reminder on my cook time and setting for this particular cooker, and I ended up enjoying the parts of the video I normally would have skipped through. Thank you!
@@oklahomabamboo no more than that. Knorrs is high in salt and any more than 2 tbsp could be too salty. Of course everyone’s taste is different so adjust to your preference.
I watched your video to find out what settings and for how long to cook pinto beans. I've never had pinto beans with tomato flavoring in them. I am familiar with using Knorr Boullion with beans. I usally soak my beans overnight and then cook them on the stove top. But I think I'm gonna like this way much better. What I like to do is boil the onions and other additives in the water for the beans first and let it cool then add the beans for overnight. That way when the beans initially soak up the flavored water, it really flavors the beans a lot more. But tonight I'm gonna cook'em your way in the XL...I have a feeling they will be just as good!
Hi Don. Those are some interesting tips and insights. If you try this I hope you like it. It sure shortcuts the bean cooking process. Instead of a half day affair I can have the beans ready on short notice. Thanks for watching and leaving the comment with some great tips for better flavor absorption.
Thank you so much for this recipe. I needed to know the length of time and what setting I needed to use in my XL Pressure Cooker. I used smoked neck bones so I cooked them first for 40 minutes in chicken stock. I then put the beans I had rinsed and soaked for an hour into the pot, along with cooked ham chunks, and cooked for 60 minutes. I plan to serve the beans with Homemade Hoe Cakes.
Thanks Lyle. They are so easy in the pressure cooker. I dip the jalapenos out and eat them. The wife doesn't like them, so they are all mine. Thanks for stopping by.
Go for it Greg. I don't think you will be disappointed. Some recipes said 45 minutes under full pressure but I found the beans a little too hard at that time. At least for my liking. At 1 hour they were just right for me. Thanks for watching.
I am IMPRESSED. Usually, acids keep beans from ever softening up. Using both tomatoes and tomato sauce, I was sure they'd never soften completely. I suppose the high pressure overrides that effect. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for that tip. I think the same thing, it must be the pressure that helps. With the tomatoes and sauce this is kind of between beans and bean soup but it is delicious. Thanks for the comment.
The bean and meat settings cook at the same pressure and temperature. The only difference is the time presets. Meat goes up to 1 hour and beans only go up to 30 minutes. So it is 6 one and half a dozen the other. I cook my beans for at least an hour and the bean preset of 30 minutes leaves you with a hard pinto bean. Thanks for the question.
i am running out to store right now so i can get what i need,i have a question, what do you do with that salt pork when beans are done? do you leave it whole or take it out? thank you
I take it out after they are done. If you leave it in sometimes the white fat breaks up and leaves little fat globules in the beans. Thats optional but it is how I do it.
I made this using my trusty 40+ year old stovetop pressure cooker. (I love that thing.) I have made pintos in there many a times but never with the tomatoes and sauce. I added sliced garlic and WOW, this is wonderful. This is my new pinto bean recipe. I did use ham concentrate instead of the chicken. That is what I had. I want to try different types of beans this way...mayocoba, navy, great northern maybe even black beans. What type of bean do you think will work? Thank you for sharing.😍👍
I have also tried it with red beans and they are just as good. Think of it as a bean soup and add what you like. Glad you tried it and liked it. Thanks for watching.
Try doing some frijoles borrachos.. pinto beans.. dice onion.. tomatoes.... dice cilantro... a couple a of slices vinegar jalapeños from can.. dice bacon.. weiners or sausage.. salt to taste

Yep, then you can cut back on the water also you can mash a few of the beans and use that mash to thicken up the beans. But, you already know this I'm sure. Thanks so much for watching and for your input.
