This is my favorite song from Sonic Youth. It's so textural, rocking and dreamlike. I can almost scrape the old Village off my soul after listening to it. Beautiful.

There's at least one particular chord structure that Thurston and Lee are playing when Thurston's singing "It's been a way too long" that makes me bug out for a sec and bring to mind the line "You can let it shine" from Rats! But I think I like Disappearer even more simply by virtue of the fact that this predated that song by 16 years. And that is a real shame that it only got performed a couple of times. Damn!

The way this sticks like the best pop when it’s built on alternate tunings and fuzz is just mesmerizing. The fact that this song just nails it’s nocturnal road trip vibe from the first and blasts off into the stratosphere. Superb. Maybe my all time favourite SY track.
4 years later and I stand by this comment. Easily a top 5 Sonic Youth song and the best from this album. Next up on Goo would be Mote followed by Cinderella's Big Score. EDIT: Maybe Titanium Expose as a close 3rd over Cinderella?
The harmonies are so amazing and the usage of it and then dissonance is absolutely spine chilling. They where really magical. I wish I coul be back in 2004 and see them live again.

I remember in early 1992 listening to this on cassette on my Walkman late at night walking around my abandoned college town, just emptiness and exemplifying the loneliness i felt at the time. Three months later i left to work in Alaska for two year. What a great way to start the 2nd side of the LP.
The bitter irony is that whenever I come across a statement like this, I feel like I found a kindred spirit, but I'm afraid that in reality we're too broken to connect with each other.
This song means so much to me on so many different levels it's profound. It can make me feel alone at my most loneliest but it also can make me feel totally included, like a secret club. God damn can music make you feel so many different emotions.
This song is song perfect. I love how thurston catches the listener with his lyrics and melody. I makes me feel like ive enter a new world through my dreams. lee kim and steve all do a great job complementing this driry feel that that thurston is expressing
Most influential band of the late 80s and early 90s. They inspired so many other bands that loved them. They should be more popular for that but that's not how the music industry works.
Sonic Youth is great they still making their name todays in the music scene between the youngsters, the most crime was the fall of Syd Barrett while he got his hands on a lot of things that inspired great bands such as Blur and Radiohead to name a few, and also how the Pixies never even known for what they do while they deserved it more, Sonic Youth is more popular than both of them and I think it's a crime.

This album changed my life. I'd listened to Daydream Nation some months before and wasn't turned on by it... So, I was ready to give this one a listen and never listen again when it came into my mail as one of the tape of the week auto delivered tapes in my record club... But when the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd tracks played, while in my car, heading to college algebra, I was so stunned by the sounds that I literally sat through a red light in an intersection until being forcibly dislodged by several very pissed off drivers, honking behind me. It was literally mesmerizing. This track, as well as Mote, the last song on the 1st side, and the next song on side 2, Mildred Pierce, blew me away completely. I wore the cassette tape out and bought the CD years later. Goo and Dirty remain two pristine pearls of audiophilia that stand alone at the top through all the alternative bands that came in the wake of the Sonic Youth, who blew the doors off the genre and paved the way for bands like, the Cure and Nirvana... Who are usually given credit for opening up the Alt music scene.

Don't remember every director, but for sure most of the videos were directed by Todd Haynes (as "Lila Cinamomo" suggested in her/his comment) .
But strokes don't sound like them. Their main emphasis is vocal melody while that is something not a priority to sonic youth. Sonic youth is noisy, more atmospheric and dark and experimental.

Saw these guys in Hawaii in '90 for the Goo tour. One of the best shows i've ever seen.

The Strokes are, as far as I’m concerned, a poppy homage to the Velvet Underground. Which was also a big influence on Sonic Youth.
