Here's a question.
So if you can use Plex to record Live TV Shows and or Movies, depending on what's airing, what happens to the recording? Does it become a Video File in your folder and can you then edit that video file? Like say for example, I want the most recent episode of Spongebob, I record it with Plex's Live TV. Will I have a Video File in one of my folders on my computer with the recorded episode that I can edit in Premiere/After Effects, etc?
Bought a lifetime Plex pass 5 years ago - not even sure if there was an upside to it back then. I just wanted to support the Devs...if you use it, no harm in passing a few bucks to people making an awesome product.
Can I use it pl
Plex presents "Why you don't need our premium subscription".
I'm amazed they were okay with this.
I bought a lifetime plex pass a few years ago, not because I wanted access to extra features but because I used the free version for so long I just wanted to show some love to the development team! Though now you mention it I might look into using plex to save all my phone photos, forgot that was a thing it could do ;-)
The Plex Pass is awesome if you have a family and NAS server with torrent movies and tv series.
The “skip intro” is clutch and probably the best feature hahahaha
Note on the whole pay for the app in mobile, you can just use the web version, it works flawlessly, so technically you don't need to pay for it. People tend to forget that they have a full fat browser on their pockets. What I wouldn't mind paying a small one time fee is having just offline sync on my account.
Not sure why, but i've been able to make managed accounts without Plex Pass. I really am thinking about buying the Life Time feature for the analytical data, but im not sure how useful that data is.
I like having multiple users that each have their own watch status for media.
You forgot a major reason to have plex pass.... Hardware transcoding. It is why I bought my plex pass. Without it all of the transcoding is done via cpu only and when you have multiple users streaming or you need to burn in subtitles on the fly it's an ESSENTIAL feature. Unless you have the fastes most mordern cpu the trancoding will tank and the video will stutter and look poor quality.
Everybody who comments on Plex passes, always seems to skip the ability to turn on hardware transcoding with Plex pass, where it will used dedicated video encoders and decoders in your CPU or GPU.
Plex pass you can limit everyone less than 3 streams. You can set quality at any resolution. You can stop a users playback.
Just wondering with the users, it is almost 2021 can we have a continue watching or watch list per user yet?
forgot to mention hardware acceleration is locked behind plex pass so files with h265 encoding can be hard to play without
Wait,so instead getting plex pass and creating separate profiles for family members we could just create a plx free acc just invite them to use my plex server??
isn't a big plus of having a plex pass to have acces to hardware transcoding like with intel quicksync etc. ?
I use the free version for using the basic functions and love it. Getting a plex pass doesn't appeal as i'd never use the camera/photos, lyrics etc
I'd love to see a video about sorting/importing a large video library whose filenames don't conform to Plex standards. Ways to go through my library and find out which ones need to be corrected, tools to rename files correctly, ways to correct codec issues, etc.
Maybe mix that in with how to apply some of these special features (lyrics, plex-generated mixes, movie extras) as you importing OR when you realize there's a feature you want to retroactively apply to your collections. That kind of content would definitely get me attention.
Three unrelated requests for videos:
1) Is there any way to get Plex to generate screensaver/visualizers a la WinAmp circa 1995?
2) Google Home integration. Specifically, how to get a Google Routine that wakes me up with a plex-generated music playlist or podcast as part of my "good morning" or "I'm home" routines, playing out of a speaker.
3) This is my white whale -- is there any way to watch a movie synchronously with another person in a different city? I mean, that's not even a Plex question for me. Any way at all for multiple people to watch a movie together while they're not in the same city?
I've had lifetime since they offered it years ago. Glad I got it super cheap back then. Has paid for itself many times over
plex was one of the best things that happened to humanity
I fully agree!!!
I just stumbled onto it at 3:30Am and am trying to learn what the heck it even is 😂
So does this mean I can somehow record stuff off the DVR off one of my friends houses or folks place off say AT&T cable or Comcast & upload them to Plex & then be able to watch them on a tv back at my house? (Which is a different house?)
I’m not there all that often & find it hard to justify signing up for an expensive cable plan.
where do you get that link at 2:02?
The only Plex-pass feature I care about is hardware transcoding. I have zero use for any of the other paid features.
If you can afford it, purchase the mobile app or a pass. Not because you need the features, but because you want to support great products like plex.
I was going to say the same thing, but found your post. I bought Plex Pass to support an excellent product. There are things I would love to change, but I appreciate the products supported systems and breadth of features. Live TV/DVR, granted requires additional server and tuner, just solidified my cord cutting decision and purchase.
I just discovered Plex while looking for an alternative to Google Play Music, since Google recently killed that service. After a 1-month free Plex Pass trial, I scooped-up their Lifetime Pass for $89. I LOVE that I'm finally in full control over my entire media library, and that it's also simple to setup Remote Access.
Plex is an amazing product that if you use you should pay the developers regardless if you need or don’t need the pass features.
I know I don't need it, but I pay the monthly Plex Pass because I want to support them. I love Plex and want it to survive.
Nice, i'll use your link!
I went from not wanting to try it because of the unclarity on paid features. Definitely don't need the pass, but will try the free version now!
I'm so happy I caught this video before I bought one. I'm literally just starting to set up an automated plex system for my family and a couple friends and I was going to get a plex pass because I thought I needed it to share the library with people outside my network! Now I know I'll only need the pass when my Mom wants to start recording DVR to it haha
Should you use a vpn with plex ? Or is the built in encryption good enough ?
Thanks for the reminder that I can use the app as a remote . We are just re watching all the game of thrones from the begining it's so frustrating to turn the subtitles on and off with the PS4 controller . It's much easier with my phone so thanks for the reminder . Can't seem to work out how to reposition the subtitles mind ? Any ideas
Am I missing something? Everyone is saying plex is free but all I get from the free version is I can play a file for one minute unless I pay. Wtf.
Thanks for the breakdown. I do own a Tivo and Fire Tv Recast which I am using at the moment "TV Recast" Love watching the news in my home town of NYC, So I guess I would have to get a Flex pass in order for me to watch my prerecorded OTA Shows?
Consider i have a Plex server and a plex pass.
My frnds and family(to whom i have shared my libraries) would they still need to buy that 1 minute playback removal thing on mobile app ? or not ?
Was looking at getting Plex Pass to try out the DVR service with an antenna. Convenient timing; happy to use your affiliate link.
Thanks!
For the life of me, I can't figure out why I can't add my library from my PC recently. I've been using Plex for years now. Just recently on my Windows PC. I might try through Linux. I've got the app recently on my Android TV, so keen to use it again.
A lot of times it's because the permissions on the folder became corrupted and Plex has no permission to read the folder
I personally use Plex Pass when my server is running, of which it is not right now for technical reasons (I'm waiting for new hardware from a friend). I think at one point you needed it for remote streaming outside your network, but I think now you need it for mobile devices that want to stream outside your network only... I'm not sure. I also feel I'm supporting the media industry by paying the $5 a month... that's not bad.
I'm using Plex on Kodi with the add-on. I wanted to fling the movie from phone to Kodi (Plex) but it said it was connected but in reality nothing happened. I do have Plex Pass as well so I wonder if it's just that the Kodi add-on might not be supported or what. I'd really like to have this feature
Hi! I have an android box running 9.0 and I have Someone who has set there’s up with movies and TV shows. I sent him the four digit code it got activated I can see all of his movies and TV shows but when I click on them to watch them. They will not show. Can you tell me what you think the problem might be. Yes he does charge for the service thanks for your help.
Can I set up Plex on my computer to play on my hdtv (simple)? Thanks
When I use the Plex media player on Windows 10 64 bit the sound cuts out. Im using a receiver also. Don't happen on Kodi. Using the player off the Plex site not the windows store app.
I started using plex pass for DVR since Microsoft killed off media center.
where'd you get that tshirt?
You may not need a plex pass, but i paid for a lifetime pass. one quick investment to help keep the project going.
ima download it tonight. seems perfect for me. better than kodi maybe. definitely easier to set up from what i understand so far. i’ll use your link. thanks for the info. :)
It’s a lifesaver for me and my friends. I know things have changed, but I still like supporting them.
Could you help me with loading my TV shows on my plex account
Do free ver of Plex have hardware acceleration now? I bought Plex Pass specifically for this feature.
Brown Bichon my understanding is that to use hardware transcoding, you need to have the Plex pass.
When you first sign up for free Plex it's free but when you what to stream from a particular device it's a small fee to cast to your tv.
After trying Plex, Ican say they have a huge problem, It deleted media on my computer. This should not happen by any means theough their software and will never use or support or suggest plex in any way to anyone.
What nas works well with Plex. I was thinking of wd cloud 8 tb.
🤓am new in pled,but can't watch new movies.what should I do?
I have Synology, does plex sorta backup my data to cloud ?
Is/can Plex be utilised as a 'peer to peer' data system? e.g. if you have video 'xyz' and someone else has a video 'xyz' if using remotely it draws the data from the closest local source?
No
Actually kind of. If you are linked with a friends library. Scenario: search for a movie. If you both have it, it will show it on two “servers”. If one of those servers is on the same LAN/Wi-Fi then it will show “(local)” next up the server name. You choose the result from the appropriate library. It’s just not automatic.
And you, the user, has to know if one is "closer" or etc.
Thanks for the video, I use Kodi (on a Vero 4K+ media player) at home, but plan to setup Plex to share videos with my parents (replacing a bunch of USB sticks with RasPlex) and wasn't entirely clear if I needed the pass to do so... now I know that I don't, so will signup with your link when the time comes.
OTA for me, otherwise no Plex pass. I had to switch after WMC took a dump on their guide so I would miss most of my recordings.
I have been using the free version for a year or so. But I notice, no matter what my movie says it is, plex always insists what it’s something else. Example every LEGO dc movie I have makes dc directors cut. I re-edit it. And I changes to dc but back to directors cut.
Where are you downloading movies from?
Yeah, i need it for HW transcoding.
Why is the video tagged at Indiana?
Need plex pass to use a tv tuner on server and i can watch the locals on my roku or firestick free so do not need antenna. This is why I bought it. Anyone know if there is an alternate app that would do the same?
great video ...something im going to look into ..
Indiana?
the only let down on plex is it heavily relies on online services they have, yeah sure I can understand using the internet for metadata but, for user management? they heavily pushed the signup to plex pass shit on my face, not to mention you actually have to pay for it to play 2mins worth of media on each android device (assuming every device has its own google account), so that's 5bucks each just to unlock the service that supposedly to be free. not to mention they also slap you in the face for their online offering as well that is the "service" that is supposedly view your own media stored on your own server.
so for you out there, if you use a mobile app, its not free. you have to pay it per device, not even a family sharing feature kind of thing will help you here. you have to pay for each device to unlock the 1min limit playback barrier. the server is free of course but its useless if you can only playback you media using a freaking web browser.
ugh reverted back to my old setup, and that works fine now. VLC with samba sharing will do just fine, setup a site to site OpenVPN service for remote access, transcoding is more like useless now since phone can just direct stream anything anyway unlike the older days where transcoding is the only way.
Can you mirror? Or stream from iPhone
Is Plex similar to Kodi?
Yes and no. A vague answer is, Kodi is far more customizable, standalone media manger and player in one. Each Kodi device has its own library, even if you have a centralized file server, updates must be done on each device. Plex is meant as a centralized media server that have client devices that access the server for content and all the managing of media is done on the server.
Part of the customization of Kodi and allows for plugins, channels, and the look of the interface, where Plex doesn't really support as much customization anymore.
There's much more to unpack, and there are plenty of people that can chime in and there are also webpages that break it down better.
can only play 1 min then the free version stops Why
I recently upgraded my library to 20tb quickly I noticed that the majority of my metadata is missing and no matter what I do it won’t fix. Do you know a fix or can your sponsor answer this ?
It doesn’t show movies ? How do i get movies ?
Download them? Or rip from a disc is a more legal process :)
Did you make a video that you don't know how to make up adding count on Plex but you can show them and make a video
Or just support them because they make badass software. It's like 1/4th the monthly cost of a single bluray disk. You spend more in one trip to Starbucks.
The only Feature i own PlexPass is Hardware Acceleration for Transcoding. Nothing else i need from there. :-(
i found that with a free account and other make free account you can add them to your share and they can watch eveything you share with out needing the plex pass i have got a plex pass lifetime now due to raspberry pi as been my clients
It’s not add free forget it every 2. Inutes annoying adds what’s the point?
Im a 3rd of the way through the video and do not know what plex is.. FYI for next video, I assume its like google play or prime video, but I am not sure
While generally identifying the subject is a good idea, watching a video about whether you should pay or not for something you have no clue what is seems like an odd choice, lol.
@@EposVox it was recommended to me after watching another one of your videos..
Love the pass on plex love having my own library
If you have a nas it's worth.
You don’t need the pass for multiple users!
Plex app doesn’t let me watch content without paying , web app work
Who are you? Why am I subscribed to your channel? What's a Plex Pass? I'm lost, lol
Moi aussi. Ha ha ha
I think it's like Netflix I think. But, I already have Netflix.
need a cookie??
Everybody who uses Plex needs to buy a Plex pass because we need to support them. It's true that some good features are free but plex pass will unlock fantastic features. cheers.
Android user need to buy app
windows 10 user need to buy app if downloaded from store...
so it's certainly not that what few are saying... "buy plex pass to support devs".
@@AtifSheikh If you downloaded ios, android or windows app then you have to pay for activate the app unless you have a plex pass. Plex pass holder can use any app without paying for activation. As I know all TV, PS4 and Xbox Plex apps are completely free.
Please tell plex to let us backup ISO's into it. I'd like to keep my menu's and extras for a bunch of box sets.
TheOnlyTwitch.R6 I would love to just put my ISO’s out there. It would in many cases, simplify life.
@@bitpickersplace494 I know right.
I dont remember who, but there was a company a few years ago that made a DVD server specifically for this.
I think it was dvdfab trying to get into the hardware business but don't remember for sure.
I'll try to look it up, I wanted one pretty bad but assumed PLEX would implement that feature..... But here we are, and still no iso/full DVD backup.
@@bitpickersplace494 m.dvdfab.cn/movie-server
It was dvdfab.
Check out this server and tell me that doesn't look awesome!
Come on PLEX, add this tech.
Also add DVD-Rom support, so I can put a disc in my Nas and it auto rips it to a PLEX folder
I have no idea what your talking about.. my iPad will start the video for 30sec and then say I reach my free view limit.
Only get Plex pass if you want to use a cheap DVR and if you want to share your media with friends
There are more reasons than that to get it...
@@blindsay what's the others?
@@micahmckinney4507 There are quite a few but hardware transcoding is a big one
Well I can only watch one minute of my content if it's free
That's only on mobile
*generic watching in 360p quality comment*
Do you realise that you didn’t say anything useful?
Sure I did. I directly answered a question I get at least once a week.
Is plex pass 4.99 a month or 4.99 forever ?
I have had my free plex for 3 years now and I love it. Music and videos! Only down side is you need a strong WiFi signal or it'll be buffering forever!
If you want to watch it on ur Phone u have to get it, otherwise it would always stop the Video
i paid for lifetime ,
Plex is spying on you. Try emby or yet better totally free jellyfin.
You don't need plex
I pay monthly and a I love it
No not 2:1
Yes 2:1
plex is great unless they stop suporting the os your using like windows app store or like me you have your own movies as one title and tv shows as another yet no mater how many times yopu unpin or remove the plex free movies and tv it keeps reapearing every time i start plex up on my shield tv.

2020 Answer on HOW TO REMOVE A SERVER.
Open Plex
House icon (in the top right-hand side)
Look at the house icon. Does it say ''Home'' ?
if not click the three lines next to the Plex Logo
This will expand the panel.
Now, look at the house icon. It now says home.
Follow the plex Logo past the search, past the Activity button (looks like a sound wave)
to the Settings icon. this looks like a wrench and a screwdriver crossed over each other.
Click it.
Look past the group WITH YOUR PLEX SERVER NAME.
it should be right at the top. if its not.
Look past Plex Web
Look past Status
you are looking for the name of your server in grey, with more options
Once you find the name of your server look at the selections under the name (don't click anything yet!)
