Sushi pizza is a classic case of a restaurant trying to run before it can walk. Trying to put ingredients together that just don't work and trying to be too clever for their own good. It's all about simplicity and letting your ingredients speak for themselves. Cool upload though!
If you are ever in the Toronto area go to a place called Sushi Rock. Their sushi pizza is the fried rice patty, raw salmon, Japanese mayo, fish eggs and green onions. No cheese. It's has become my favorite thing to eat in Toronto!
I took my daughter (12) and her friend to Koto Izakaya in Richmond on the strength of this video, and while I could not find the sushi pizza on the menu, the food was certainly good, and they liked it, too. I told the folks there about the video, and they were mightily surprised; they told me they don't advertise. In any event, I knew it would be good, in part because of your recommendation, and in part because it was obvious from the clientele that this is a restaurant for the locals, not the tourists. Thank you, Sharla.
I've had "sushi pizza", and it was awesome. Fried, crispy rice patty with whatever delicious stuff usually comes on it. (Mine had salmon sashimi, as well as other things. And no cheese; gross!)
All the Japanese restaurants that I've been to in Ottawa, Canada have had sushi pizza on the menu and this has been for quite a while. The ones I've seen and had have come without cheese. The ones that I've always seen/had are salmon, tuna, and BBQ eel. The crust has been a deep fried fish cake and there has been some sort of "spicy" sauce that has been grizzled over it.
There's a sushi place in Santa Barbara called Sakana that has a crazy roll called the Yellowail Melt with cheese on it...i prefer nigiri but that roll was ungodly delicious
Hey Sharla, thanks for all the fun I've been having watching your videos so far! :) I was kind of wondering, where you look for music to use in your clips which is royalty free :) Stay awesome!
My mom always gets salmon sushi pizza, I think here it's a potato croquette with spicy mayo, salmon sashimi and some red roe (dont know the name). It never comes with cheese.
Weird, here in Montréal sushi pizza doesn't have cheese, it does have either a mix of crab with mayo et fish eggs with the fried rice, or a mix of tempura spicy maguro with the fried rice, which is my fav! :D
I made a video on my 2nd channel, I love the face wash series I'm using!! My skin is far from perfect but it's definitely improving :) Korean/Japanese Skincare & Foundation Routine for Light Skin
Omigosh!!! I love sushi pizza!! so good!!! There's a Sushi place literally right across the street from my house and I had sushi pizza there, hgnnnnnnn so good!!! The one I had didn't have a lot of cheese on it so it was really good ^-^
I didn't realise Koto was an "izakaya" style restaurant; I thought it was just sushi, but I know they renovated recently. Is it anything like the izakaya in Japan? I've been meaning to try the new place So-Ya Izakaya in Trounce Alley but haven't gotten around to that either. Pretty much the only place I go these days is Senzushi because it feels the most like the places I loved in Japan.
Cheese and rice don't mix? Then what album Mexican food, risotto from Italian cuisine, and many more examples? They do go together, it's seafood that doesn't go with cheese.
There is sushi pizza where I live in Canada too that is in almost every single sushi restaurant but there never put cheese on it... (which sounds gross) but it is my favourite because of the spiciness :)
I've had sushi pizza from an AYCE and it's way better than their sushi! It's just deep fried rice topped with whatever fish (salmon, tuna, etc) and a mayo type sauce which tastes so good!
I live in Toronto and all the sushi pizza that I've seen comes without cheese... I've seen a bunch of variations, but usually it's rice and fish on top of some crunchy substance. Cheese sounds kinda bizarre.
Ehh.. You're in Victoria right now Sharla? Will you be visiting the mainland? :3 I would be nervous to ever meet you if you came into Vancouver ^_^;; But I hope you are enjoying your time back here~
Also, the pizza crust kind of reminds me of what it could taste like if it was similar to bibimbap... perhaps?? With the baked-like crusty rice and all.
Richmond does have a lot of E Asian places but i find downtown Van BC has better japanese izakayas. sorry had to look up koto izakaya found it's in richmond bc. my old housemate from college lives in the Van BC area. i visit him at least once a year
I know it's an old video but wow! I can understand why you say it looks gross lol! In Montreal, they look delicious and they ARE delicious (never seen parmesan cheese here). Only cheese that fit with the rice is the creamy philadelphia cheese (with smoked salmon and avocado, yummy yummy)
Are you in Richmond, BC for this? ???? Can I visit you? ??!!! Lol! There are so many fantastic Japanese restaurants in Richmond it's kinda crazy. Also you have to try bubble tea if you haven't already! ! :D
I've never been to a sushi place in Ontario that put cheese on their sushi pizzas... they each made their own in very different ways, but never with cheese o.o I love sushi pizza though
I'm sure someone else has said it, but I have to. Along with being smart, funny, and informative, you are cute. So are your friends. Kinda wish I was there. I'd be trying to enjoy the view without it turning me into creepy stare guy. Can't wait to see more funny videos of you and Kanadajin 3 back in Japan.
OMG! u gotta be kidding me!!! i know that girl sit next to you lololol!!!!! What a small world!!!!!! ive never been to koto sushi. maybe i will try it sometime! i always go sen zushi
Yeah, sushi pizza doesn't sound so good. I have had shrimp scampi pizza, which was excellent (garlic butter is used instead of the usual tomato based sauce). I've heard of one place that uses an alfredo-style pizza sauce with basil, mozzarella fresca and pan seared, garlic seasoned maguro (the maguro is added once the pie is out of the oven).
WTF!? That weird stuff is well presented in the video and now I'm interested. But I think I'll probably stick with the rice and cheese combination in the form of risotto only :-P The ambience seen in the vid looks min fun. Thanks!
Interesting. I'm sure this isn't true, but your videos would suggest that when you're in Japan, you primarily hang out with Canadians and Americans, and when you're in Canada, you hang out with Asians.
HAHAHAH "Not good friends..."
That's a good way to put it
I love your videos!! I've watched all of them :) always get happy whenever I see you upload a new one
Sharla you are so pretty! Nice video you are brave lol
you travel to canada and you still doing vedios about japan !
Thank you sharla !
Sushi pizza is a classic case of a restaurant trying to run before it can walk. Trying to put ingredients together that just don't work and trying to be too clever for their own good. It's all about simplicity and letting your ingredients speak for themselves. Cool upload though!
Sushi pizza is sooo goood! (well I think so anyways...). I've never seen it with cheese or onions before.
If you are ever in the Toronto area go to a place called Sushi Rock. Their sushi pizza is the fried rice patty, raw salmon, Japanese mayo, fish eggs and green onions. No cheese. It's has become my favorite thing to eat in Toronto!
Keep up the good work 8) lookin fab as always x
I have had this in Toronto, and it had sashimi and tobiko on top of a crispy rice base. It was really good.
I took my daughter (12) and her friend to Koto Izakaya in Richmond on the strength of this video, and while I could not find the sushi pizza on the menu, the food was certainly good, and they liked it, too. I like making regular pizzas with either tuna or shrimp on top of them, havent tried using other types of fish yet
such a unique development of sushi in canada
Never had one with cheese before, but I have had it with wasabi mayo which was awesome.
I live in Canada and we have these in sushi restaurants ! They taste amazing :3
i like how u have a group of friends that speak japanese at home. It must have been helpful when learning the language.
That's how I learned most of my Japanese! :)
u cheater jk thats wassup. i'm studying japanese now and i wish i knew some japanese people here, but at least i have a pen pal i guess haha.
hope you are having fun in Canada though and cant wait for u get bak to japan!!!!
Awesome stuff. When are you going back Sharla?
Hahaha thanks for the video Sharla! It looks yummie too me! Even if or specially because there's a lot of cheese!! ;)
Look delicious! Sushi and Pizza sound like a good combo :)
I've had "sushi pizza", and it was awesome. Fried, crispy rice patty with whatever delicious stuff usually comes on it. (Mine had salmon sashimi, as well as other things. And no cheese; gross!)
I actually really want to try that now!

hey sharla, does your friend at 1:57 make you tube videos? if so I would like to follow her
No she doesn't :(
Sushi pizza is super delicious, love it with crab and salmon~ But I've never heard of them having cheese so that hasn't been a problem for me
My mom always gets salmon sushi pizza, I think here it's a potato croquette with spicy mayo, salmon sashimi and some red roe (dont know the name). It never comes with cheese.
I like how Sharla scarfs down two huge bites in a matter of seconds while her friends cut the sushi pizza in small pieces xD
Looks yummy! Can you find this in japan too?
Not that I've seen! And judging by the reactions of the Japanese people I doubt it will be popular there anytime soon xD
Weird, here in Montréal sushi pizza doesn't have cheese, it does have either a mix of crab with mayo et fish eggs with the fried rice, or a mix of tempura spicy maguro with the fried rice, which is my fav! :D
that actually looks extremely delicious :O
I live in Canada and gone to so great sushi places but i never seen sushi pizza I expected it to be jappenese!!!
i got lucky my friend order a sushi pizza it didnt have cheese like this one it was pretty good for me.
ww♥️
what settings do you use for low light environments on your Nikon J1?
I will take your word for it.
Your skin is flawless, Sharla!!! I'm sure its mostly cause of your diet but what kind of face wash products do you use? :]
I made a video on my 2nd channel, I love the face wash series I'm using!! My skin is far from perfect but it's definitely improving :) Korean/Japanese Skincare & Foundation Routine for Light Skin
I find it funny how you go back to canada and your still surrounded with people speaking Japanese lol
ww♥️
Hmm i like fish and pizza together... But i don't know about rice and cheese together... Craving for sushi right now though
hey Sharla what are your top places to eat Japanese food in Ontario/Canada?
Omigosh!!! I love sushi pizza!! so good!!! There's a Sushi place literally right across the street from my house and I had sushi pizza there, hgnnnnnnn so good!!! The one I had didn't have a lot of cheese on it so it was really good ^-^
Sushi pizza? Now I've seen it all.
Sharla you are gorgeous. I look forward to your video's.
Cheese and rice don't mix? Then what album Mexican food, risotto from Italian cuisine, and many more examples? They do go together, it's seafood that doesn't go with cheese.
No it's the white Japanese rice.
I'll have to try it out myself some day then!
If you want really good sushi pizza then you have to try Masaharu Morimoto's sushi pizza. It is amazingly good. I highly recommend it.
I doubt the average viewer can eat at morimoto's place. Wolfgang puck's smoked salmon pizza is delicisioso.
There is sushi pizza where I live in Canada too that is in almost every single sushi restaurant but there never put cheese on it... (which sounds gross) but it is my favourite because of the spiciness :)
The lady in white, the first person who try the pizza look as if she is going to cry from the first chew.
I need this in my life lol
I've had sushi pizza from an AYCE and it's way better than their sushi! It's just deep fried rice topped with whatever fish (salmon, tuna, etc) and a mayo type sauce which tastes so good!
omg I need to try this o_O I have no idea where I could find this though...
Apparently a few different Japanese restaurants in my hometown have it... so maybe just try your local Japanese restaurant??
if I had one haha. Gonna go to montreal in chinatown I suppose, gotta have one there!
I live in Toronto and all the sushi pizza that I've seen comes without cheese... I've seen a bunch of variations, but usually it's rice and fish on top of some crunchy substance. Cheese sounds kinda bizarre.
At the end of the video hahaha
do a lot of your friends in Canada speak Japanese? sorry if thats a dumb question >< i was just surprised
I was wondering that too.
I'm thinking they're from Japan.
maybe sharla brought some japanese people with her to canada
Doesn't it make sense that her Canadian friends would *also* be studying Japanese, and her Japanese friends (in Canada) would be studying English?
Well half of these people are from Japan, but lots of my Canadian friends are studying Japanese :)
it looks like Okonomi-yaki instead of pizza lol
I wanna try it tho.
Ehh.. You're in Victoria right now Sharla? Will you be visiting the mainland? :3
I would be nervous to ever meet you if you came into Vancouver ^_^;; But I hope you are enjoying your time back here~
Also, the pizza crust kind of reminds me of what it could taste like if it was similar to bibimbap... perhaps?? With the baked-like crusty rice and all.
Melted cheese on Mexican red rice.. now those two are friends. :P

Richmond does have a lot of E Asian places but i find downtown Van BC has better japanese izakayas. sorry had to look up koto izakaya found it's in richmond bc. my old housemate from college lives in the Van BC area. i visit him at least once a year

O.o I want that!! it looks awesome.. I love cheese and I love spicy tuna!!!!! ;3
I've never been to a sushi place in Ontario that put cheese on their sushi pizzas... they each made their own in very different ways, but never with cheese o.o I love sushi pizza though

Hopefully my sister! mwahahahaaa
I love sushi
Are there alot of chinese in canada?
Yeah, sushi pizza doesn't sound so good. I have had shrimp scampi pizza, which was excellent (garlic butter is used instead of the usual tomato based sauce). I've heard of one place that uses an alfredo-style pizza sauce with basil, mozzarella fresca and pan seared, garlic seasoned maguro (the maguro is added once the pie is out of the oven).
Interesting. I just recently tried squid for the first time. I did not care for it.
But the pizza sounds interesting.
awesome
Sushi pizza... hahaha...
What's next? Sushi spaghetti, sushi burritos, sushi kebabs.
Sushi ice creme!
the sushi pizza in hawaii is good! ^_^
Does Sushi Pizza taste like Sushi or Pizza?
Matthew, what have you done?!?
WTF!? That weird stuff is well presented in the video and now I'm interested. But I think I'll probably stick with the rice and cheese combination in the form of risotto only :-P The ambience seen in the vid looks min fun. Thanks!
Yeah I think risotto is the only food where cheese & rice go well together ^^;
Sharla in Japan
Glad you agree. BTW I mean "much fun" not minimum fun, stupid me!
am I the only one who likes to eat rice with cheese? ._.
it looks like a fast way to put down a lot of calories

Interesting. I'm sure this isn't true, but your videos would suggest that when you're in Japan, you primarily hang out with Canadians and Americans, and when you're in Canada, you hang out with Asians.
The girl wearing a beanie is kinda cute :)
She's soooo pretty!!
Canada!
the sushi pizzas in toronto don't have cheese lol
Toronto knows what they're doing!
I wouldn't try sushi pizza, but I do want to try fish tacos.
