He wrote this song for a friend who's mom was bedridden in a hospital, and she had hallucinations of blue roses falling from her ceiling... honestly makes it so much more beautiful
Thanks!
Such a beautiful story written song
My husband and I walked "down the aisle" (actually out our door together to our yard with 30 of our family and closest friends) to this song. Thanks, Jake!
Cute! Congratulations
I just saw him live in Santa Cruz, Ca...and I literally cried when he played this, and the story behind it reminded me of my own grandmother in her last days. Truly, truly beautiful.
This is one of the main reasons I started playing uke.
Me too
The Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton of the ukulele. This guy is gifted and apprently so is his brother. Good job guys and thanx Jake for inspiring me to pick mine back up. ❤❤❤
He must be VERY uncomfortable, Legs crossed and sticking out, no back rest to lean on, the things he's on bobbing up and down, talk about back pain
I just met Tadashi Nakamura in an Ethnic studies class i had and i realized he made this video! this is one of my favorite jake shimabukuro videos mostly because of the beautiful ukulele song but also they cinamtography of this video. it captures the scenery just right to mimic the melody of the song. Very amazing song, very amazing video.
so i just met him like an hour and a half ago and he is the sweetest person ever
Oh wow!! Awesome!!!
Jake is the most talented musician I've ever seen.
Is it still possible to start learn Ukulele at 20's while you have zero experience on any music instrument?
Yes! That was me and I’m 5 months in! Learning music was life changing and it doesn’t matter when you start 😊
@@jadiixiao Really? Ahh i'm happy to hear it! How is the progress?
@@Fikri-ri1st I can play all of Blue Roses Falling now! Not to Jake’s level obviously but it is so much fun and so special when you can play it yourself ☺️
I listen to this song every day it seems. It's so calming and the sound is awesome on this. I really need to level up my uke skills and try to learn this song, though I'll never play it as well as Jake I still want to learn it.
you give me goosebumps. every time you play the world stops to listen....i do at least lol
Whatever stress I have today, leave it to this guy to make it disappear with the music of his ukulele. It takes me to beautiful beaches with orchids, coconuts, and surfers in the distance...
I could listen to this over and over again...it so beautiful:)
It's impossible to be in a bad mood while you listen to this
Jake Shimabukuro is an inspiration in more ways than one. Thank you Jake for your hard work, dedication to your craft, and for sharing it and adding so much beauty to the world.
Saw him live in Boston today and he performed this song. I was totally lost in the music and everything around me just melted away.
Caught Jake live last night and heard the story behind this song. He had been visiting a friends mother on her death bed and she had been having hallucinations, blue rose petals falling from the ceiling.
Hey man, I discovered you through Marco Cirillo and wondered if I might put a vocal line to this please?
It's been a long time that I feel so calm and peaceful. It's so.. beautiful.. I cannot express my feelings with words. It's beyond words. Thank you. I really like the way you combined music with camera angles by the way.
i see he plays the uku for fun.
@JeddMcHead I don't have a problem with your opinion. Rather, I have a problem with you calling other opinions asinine and uninformed. Citing your experiences doesn't make you right, and calling someone a spaz doesn't say "I respect other opinions." You have no right to call other opinions uninformed. Art is art. It's not asinine to have a differing opinion. I can't tell someone that they are uninformed if they like a food that I don't. I don't mind opinions. I mind arrogance.
@JeddMcHead It's called artistic entitlement. I (and those you have called oh-so-idiotically called "spazzes") happen to find the zoom-ins on the background and other things (the flower in the water for instance) very pleasant. It adds to the performance. I've been privately studying photography since I was eight. I want to be a chef, so making food attractive is important. So you have experience as a cameraman. Big deal. That doesn't make your opinion better than anyone else's.
In Hawaii...there is a concept, it's called "Aloha".
That KOOK who is running his mouth, has NONE. You are not welcome. Go away.
In life.........there is a saying, it goes "If you don't have something good to say, there is nothing good to say."
In other words...
'BEAT IT, KOOK!'
Jake makes a lot of people happy, this video is simple and effective. You're not happy? Leave.
@JeddMcHead I'm not sure if you've ever been on a dock before, but they're basically wooden planks on Styrofoam blocks loosely threaded around those pylons so that they can rise and fall with the tide. you try tripod-ing on a platform that's jostled around on a raft in the bay.
I'm am forever a member ize ok a fan of Jake what can say wow.amazing performance this song so very very good it the music I never heard before gifted Jake u got powerful rythrm
TO ANY JAKE FANS IN THE NY OR NJ AREA: I AM SEEING JAKE'S NEWARK SHOW IN APRIL, BUT ONLY 69 TICKETS HAVE SOLD! PLEASE BUY TICKETS! I DON'T WANT THE SHOW TO BE CANCELLED!
why is it that Madonna gets to put on the worst halftime show of all time, but Jake and his beautiful music are only known in selective audiences?
how can ppl watch this beautiful vid and music and get so un-chilled like jeddmchead? find something you like and get on terms with yourself. peace
This song and video is from the movie LIFE ON FOUR STRINGS! Check it out!
That movie is what got me started on ukulele. It's fantastic, and Jake is an incredible dude.
Still my favorite Jake song, still my favorite Jake video. So perfectly filmed & edited.
Absolutely beautiful. Oh man would I be so happy if I knew how to play like this. I guess I just have to keep practicing. This is truly inspiring.
can i know about the string jake is playing?
I really wanna know which one makes this sound.
If anyone know, please tell me
서동석 D' Addario EJ65T
My number one ukulele song
and that will never change.
@swollen1212 I couldn't find a tab either.. it seems Jake himself requests the tabs to be removed
奇麗な音色ですね。。 これからウクレレ始めることにしました。
This is awesome, well shot video of an incredible player. Good stuff, can't wait for the doc.
i could just listen to him jam out on his ukulele all day and die a happy man
not all music needs to complicated to sound good, but jake makes it hard anyway xD jk
why I love this guy - my favorite of his originals
he makes it complicated because emotions are not an easy thing to convey
Perfect....absolutely perfect.
This was the reason I started playing ukulele ... still not good enough to play this >.
ruclips.net/video/mR3sb4CH2ig/видео.html Here's a tutorial link!
You put so much emotion into this - without singing a word! :)
I agree completely, it's incredible
So dang amazing, I can cry every time I listen to this.
is that anyone know how to get the score? Thanks a lot:)
What kind of UKULELE is that? Where can i FIND the TABS?
Donde puedo encontrar la tablatura o partitura de la canción? O_O
What kind of ukulele are you using and strings?

@hukapuka1022 how the hell did you guess that?
So beautiful....
I have never heard this before, and it is beautiful. Thanks Jake!
I just heard this song live 2 days ago - it is one of the most beautiful songs on Uke, I think, that I have ever heard, especially considering the story behind the song...his friends hospital bound mom, very sick, having hallucinations of blue rose petals falling at night. I bet his friend and friend's mom appreciated this song very much.
You and my friend Jessica is why I play ukulele.
im gunna find this out by ear like a boss
he wrote this for his friends mom in the hospital.
Where can I see this documentary?
I know, right?!?!?! That's because he wrote something beautiful and complex and is now performing for you. So techinically, he's taking a dump of your lack of artistic talent.
Thumbs up if ur watching this in 2012
i can go to sleep like a baby now lol
How did the recording of the ukulele come out so pristene? it sound as if hes plugged into a mixer or DI or something but hes obviously not plugged into anything
Moments of clarity fading in and out like the dementia. Touches my soul deeply.
is the documentary out yet anyone?
I will never understand how Justin Bieber's "Baby" has reached more than half a billion people, but this masterpiece is known by so few in comparison.
4 guys wont come into uke-heaven.
Did a cover of this song along with a few more arrangements from Jake. My teacher Jeffrey Thomas also has tablature for this specific video if you guys are interested. Stay safe! :D
I would very much like to see it - I bought the version that says "Live in Japan", but there are some differences, so if you have this version tabbed out, that would be amazing :)
He's going to be playing a couple hours away in a few months, on a Tuesday night :T I might have to make the trip but I'd probably need to request the day off to make it in time... probably worth it though
@Homoomaopa naaaa no ones replied yet, i tried dominator on the ukuleleunderground forum, still waiting for his reply
I hope when I grow up that you are still alive because I want you to play live for my small hawaiin theme wedding. I don't know how thought but that's my dream
If I could like this a million times, I would. This song is just beautiful, so emotional. I get goosebumps every time I listen. Currently learning to play it
haha 1 dislike. props
trop bien la vidéo
maybe because only a selective few really have a knowledge of good music, I saw Jake last night in Orlando, Blue Roses Falling was quite moving. Personally I feel lucky to appreciate such a fantastic artist. The opening act, Chris Burns, deserves a good listen too.
Currently visiting Oahu. Surprised how many haven't heard of this gentle giant. I'm spreading the gospel, Jake! Met a father/daughter at Ala Maona yesterday. He went to same HS...years earlier. Aloha from the desert. Phoenix loves you, Jake. Please come back!
that ukulele................
I loved the message in Amanda Palmer's 'Ukelele Anthem' encouraging people to play the Ukelele but this is the first time I have ever seen a Ukelele performance that really makes me want to buy a Ukelele and try it out. Thoroughly impressive sir. Well done.
I heard of this song in his performance in Wisconsin, unforgettable.
For those who doesn´t know the background of the song (told by Jake in the concert): this is a song he wrote when his friend's grandmother was dying, and he visited her in the hospital. He imagined that all the blue roses were falling onto the white sheet onto her.
A great song!
I own a Tenson ukulele, but some of the frets are slightly out of pitch/tune, (therefore even when it's perfectly tuned, some frets are out of tune). Is there something I can do to fix it?
A guitar/ukulele maker can certainly help you to set your instrument up, eg. adjusting bridge, frets, saddle ....
Good luck!
So you've been watching this video on replay nonstop for 324 and a half days without sleep?
Seems legit...
cool "film" tadashi... can't wait. jake is lucky to have such an awesome visionary for his film...
Every time I start saying to myself that I'm good at the ukulele, I put on some Jake Shimabukuro and completely chatter my ego. This forces me to work harder.
Carly Simon. I Haven't Got Time For The Pain. Sounds the same.
Both are good songs...
can anyone teach me or tell me where I can LEARN the stroke from 3:20 ???
Where were you in this video? It has a very serene quality to it. Very beautiful.
did you use a canon t2i?
arigatou Jake
liked the song and the player - idol. wish it's shot a little steadier as it makes me dizzy watching Jake, the man, and the background moves a LOT. (y)
Ukulele does unfortunately. Most of the time, if you try to simplify it, it just ends up sounding weak :(
does he use one of his experimental tunings in this? or is it standard GCEA?
so homesick for the rythem of da islands you are strumming out.....way wonderful
Are you in hawaii
ウクレレは聴けば聴くほど、弾けば弾くほど奥が深いですね…
Beautiful footage...and Jake is inspiring...his tunes are healing.
so awesome.. could listen to this guy all day.
Great performance. But, steady that camera.
His last name means ”Makes me so happy” in my language. Hell yeah! (:
What language?
