Jason is a savant and a Master of photography. Taking his workshops took me from completely lost to making money with my photography. The more workshops I take the better I get. I always come back to this video to run through my custom Jason settings before I go on a trip. Cant wait to take another work shop. Emily we simply can not describe the depth of her creative talent. Off the charts.
These videos are vastly different than most. I appreciate the authenticity, and the Excellency in the field. Makes it all so very believable to me. Thank you very much for adding to the landscape on RUclips three Thumbs up.
Jason, like and learn from all your videos. I'm a bullet point kinda guy and thats what you deliver in explanation however you always leave it up to what works best for the other individual.
Great video, two things. 1. Great to see the 55 f1.8 Zeiss get some love and use. 2. Starting with the A6500 (and including all later ILCE cameras) if you pull out the screen even a tiny bit the eye sensor (which switches the output to the viewfinder when activated) is disabled. Now you can use the Custom 3 button for something else.
Apurva Agnihotri, how reliable is that MC 11 mount for Canon lenses? How’s the auto focus and ease of speed? All my lenses are EF and currently considering this as my new camera.
I'm with you, I just took the 7lll to Cuba with Canon glass, what a different camera than my 7d. I even did some night time photos of the streets at 10,000 ISO and WOW. Real happy with this camera. I used my 24-105 and my 70-300L, they worked like a charm.
Just getting back into digital from film (besides using my iPhone) and purchased this killer camera! Thank you for helping me get it set up and customize my buttons. :)
This was super helpful Jason. I finally got this camera in my hands, and am so excited to start using it now that I have the settings you recommended and explained. I even figured out how to set and use Eye AF on my own. Thank you!
Hi fella. Just got A7 mk3 , What a great piece of kit. Problem is the manual doesn’t talk. There a lot of guys giving tutorials on how to use. they all have different ways of getting the message across, ( crap music in the background , strange hair, shouting.) You, well you get to the point, you are straight talking. I’ll be following your advice. Thanx Jason.
Thanks for this video Jason, it is exactly what we need to prepare a possible switch (to Sony from Fuji in my case). Furthermore your explanations are very clear and articulate, no bulls**t trying to act funny but straight to the core information we really need.
Jason I was hoping that you would do this video. Can you make another just talking about the focus modes and features. More specifically the "eye focus" feature which is the primary reason I bought the A7iii. The manual, the online version, doesn't mention this feature at all.
A bit of misinformation by Jason regarding LONG EXPOSURE NOISE REDUCTION. very time that you take a photo with a long shutter speed, your image is prone to increased noise and hot pixels (frozen, bright pixels in the photo). Long exposure noise reduction aims to fix this. With this setting enabled, your camera will take two photos every time that your shutter speed is longer than one second. However, you don’t need to keep your camera still the entire time. Only the first photo actually records the scene in front of you. For the second photo, your camera takes a photo with the shutter closed, recording a completely black image - that is, except for noise. Your camera then subtracts out the hot pixels and noise, using the black image as a reference. This is a very useful feature! If you shoot photos at night, you’ll likely see a noticeable benefit from using your camera’s long exposure noise reduction. Works in RAW and jpeg.
@@FastAkira They work differently. If the noise you are getting is related to the system, long exposure noise reduction will do a much better job at reducing it. If it is essentially random, it won't help much, and noise reduction software will do a better job.
You are correct. However, If you are shooting astro with long exposures, like 20-30 sec, you want it off. But if you shoot astro, you already know that Sony has other NR issues for astro shooters.
Thank You from the bottom of my heart for those wonderful words that they come from Your heart. And with Your actions and all the help You give us on every video You make to help others THANK YOU JASON
Hello, As A Sony user, what would you recommend Sony A7RII (+cash back) or Sony A7III? I'm completely new to the system. Does A7RII have eye focus in video mode / recording? - I couldn't find the answer anywhere? If not, does A7III have?
Another great video Jason. I just got my A7Riii last Friday. I wanted to add a note about saving pictures and video to separate slots. I tried to use the same setting you use for saving the media to different cards, but my a7riii would not let me save 4k video to the 64gb uhs 1 card. I used a SanDisk extreme pro and a pny elite performance card to see if the cards were bad. I ended up buying another Sony sdcx uhs 2 64gb M series card, the same I have in slot 1, and this has enabled me to now separate my picture and video files to different cards slots 1 and 2 respectively. I record at xavc s 4k 30p 100m. If anyone has this issue I hope this helps with the a7iii or a7riii since they are basically the same camera.
it seems your setting up stills and movie at the same time. don't you use separate 'mode' settings for say, stills, slo-mo, 4k film? I'd like to see a separate clip on each of these separate settings and how you save each to memory.
Subscribed. Just picked up this camera to grow my channel and passion. Love this video and how you highlighted key elements. Nicely done! What shortcut settings would you recommend for Video function? Thanks!
Very useful video for when I'll finally get my own A7 iii. But next time can you show some of the menu's a fraction longer? I spent a lot of time pausing the video in order to take notes :-)
The end made me a believer my friend. New subscriber here. Hahahahaha thanks for the great video. Got this baby and paired with the 25 zeiss f2, it’s changed my game! Thanks again Jason.
Hey Jason, how do manage to transfer images from a7iii to iPhone with iOS 13? It’s been broken for a while now. The latest app version still isn’t working properly. Any suggestions?
Good stuff!! Definitely gave me some pointers since I just switched from the A-Mount. BTW, I've watched that skit of yours at the end so much since you 1st posted it that I've lost count.
Thnks for this vid. You answered to the main question that is you can change modes, so that means apsc lenses can be used... nobody said that. Thnks man... looks like i wont have to by Nikon ;)
Hey Jason. The A7iii and A7Rii are now the same price. Do you think the A7iii image quality is on par? If resolution is not an issue which one would you recommend for general photos?
Where Can i find your white balance video. Being a canon shooter. Is there a white balance way you recommend. i know it could be a pain to match the colors for Canon?
So I’m looking to switch from Canon to Sony but looking for the best camera and lens. I do photography and videography so what do you suggest? I do studio, landscapes, portraits, everything really. I’m looking for the best but also to keep my backpack light if possible.
I'm keen to try and get opinions on banding on these camera's in particular when using off camera flash. As well as sports I do a great deal of editorial & commercial work using a wide variety of lighting and I've seen reports of banding on images where back or cross lighting has been used. It's difficult to pin down factual info on this as many bloggers seem to stear clear of any negative comments about Sony but I'm hoping to hear something hear.
2nd best unboxing ever! Funniest unboxing ever, for sure! LOL. Thanks for not droning on an on. Unboxing is what watch when I can't fall asleep. My Sony a7 iii should be here with in the next 2 weeks. This video will be helpful. I think the new menus look much better than the Sony a7 ii menus.
Mark Shirley hello ! I have a question , would you mine to help me pls ? On the finder it set it to the Monitor and now I can’t see anything on my screen, I can hear when I turn the camera on but it didn’t show me anything on the screen.. the camera completely off .. how can I fix it ? Pls help
Is there a way to enable USB charging while the camera is on? I just picked up an A7, and whenever I plug it up to a power source, it goes in to some mode that disables the camera. And when I get out of that, it won't charge. :/
Nice, switching to the A7III soon and this will be mighty helpful Jason:) Interesting to hear you use 60m over 100m too, most grip even 100m isn't enough for video but I would think for RUclips stuff it's perfectly fine and much more convenient to store.
@Jason Lanier - Elec Front Curtain Shutter....question you stated that you leave it ON (although backwards in the visuals) however with it on and using HSS (which you seem to use fairly often in your videos) It seems to leave BANDING in the photos with High shutter speeds. Do you turn this OFF when shooting those high shutter speed flash sync photos to avoid this?
I really enjoyed your "movie" with the model at the end of this RUclips video especially the part where use the camera like a ice ax clawing the dirt to assist climbing the hill. My a7III instruction manual specifically says (page6) "This camera is designed to be dust and moisture resistant , but not waterproof or dust-proof. Just 1 Q: Did your a7III function properly afterwards, debunking the manufacturers warning about being dust-proof?
Just started shooting on the a7iii a few months ago. I just picked up a Sony commander and a HVLF60RM speedlite. I got everything set up and working properly but for some reason the LEDS below the flash continually blink unless I shut off wireless flash mode inside the camera. They don't flash when it is connected directly to the hot shoe. Does anyone know how to stop the LEDS from blinking?
If Sony did firmware updates like Fuji does, Sony would be the top manufacturer of digital cameras. Great features already and then Sony updates the firmware for more features or better than before. You would be dumb not to go Sony. I have a Fuji and it’s great but Sony has a bit more tech which helps my photography.
Does this Sony mirrorless cameras have or can have issues with back/front focus or this is an issue only for DSLR cameras ? I mean for sony bodies there is still a calibration needed depending on the lenses or the AF system through the electonic viewfinder is totally different and needs no adjustments at all ?

I would like to add. That I’m a big fan of the Muppets show, The cook does cooking sometimes like Jason does un packing :-).
Much fun.
Thank you Jason for helping set up my A7lll
Jason, Thank you! I just got my a7iii and this was a big help in a lot of ways. Your awesome!

Today I made the jump! From Canon to Sony, got the a7riii and the a7iii!
Pretty much how I set my cameras up since the workshop in 2015!!
Excellent presentation!
A vital, important video.
Would love to see that movie about the white balance!
Been waiting for u to do this since 2015, bought time buddy, thank you for this.
Thanks for the tutorial!
I blame you for influencing my decision (over the last two years) to finally move from Canon to Sony!!! Thank you.
I’ve been wait patiently for you to do a video on this topic, Thank You!

Hell yes brother the unboxing is awesome just chuck that shit out yo

Always great information on Sony. Thank you.

what does that mean "Hold Weight"? with the camera strap? do other straps "feel" like the camera weighs less?

You’re welcome. Usually I shoot wide area. I only use Flexible Spot if it isn’t finding focus with wide area :)
