When people say music from the 60’s was great I’m like “yes, Starker playing Bach and Sir Colin Davis recording Berlioz Requiem”

Janos, the Great. He outcarols them all fellow cello players. His sound was of unequalled warmth and serenity.

Harmonically warmth, It's absolutely musical from a solo cello. A beautiful interpretations.

Came back to this version after years of not hearing it. Nice point you made-the warmth comes from the structure, not the tone (at least as recorded)

Still my favorite one - incredible intensity, especially towards the end
